Thats what Hackson was allegedly told by the trustee. 8 mil for the 2 years remaining. If true that means Diaz's salary is 4 million per year, which would be ludicrous. Cristobals salary when he was hired by Oregon was about 2.4 mil and he had 5+ years of HC experience. If Diaz got 4 million per year, Blake James is an even bigger f#cking idiot than I could have possibly imagined.
I think that is somewhat misleading (what Barry Jacks-off said, not your post) and needs to be examined (not sure if Manny's contract, with all terms, has ever been publicized).
We may owe Manny $8 million in salary over the next 2 years, but a firing/buyout is usually not at 100% of remaining salary. A good coach/negotiator might be able to swing that, but most (particularly first-timers) do not get such a sweetheart deal. I would say that $8 million is the worst-case scenario, but given the ardor and single-candidate devotion that Beta Blake showed when hiring Manny, I guess it could be possible that he gave his pal a 5-year fully-guaranteed contract. Disturbing, but possible.
What needs to happen at UM is fairly simple. WE NEED TO START BUDGETING FOR BUYOUTS. The attached article makes it pretty clear that buyouts have become the new normal in college football and basketball.
Now I'm sure that Beta Blake will come up with some cutesy way to deflect and claim that he doesn't plan to fail, but then again NOBODY DOES. But the fiscally responsible thing to do is to put $1M per year into a reserve account for this very purpose. Hopefully, you'll never need it. BUT WHEN YOU DO...
