Barry Jackson Reitterates UM's Interest in Beckham Stadium

Stupid idea I think.

Where do we tailgate?

In the ****ing water.

Party boat tailgating would make UM even more unique. I think this is one of the most badass ideas we've ever had.

Doesn't Tennessee already do that?

I'm not sure what body of water runs through Knoxville, but I'm sure it doesn't compare to Biscayne Bay.[/QUOTE]

Absolutely positively in favor of this and I hope Ross lets us out. 40K would be perfect, and for people that are not familiar with soccer stadiums they're very close to the field so the atmosphere would be insane at those games. It draws parallels to the Duke basketball games at Cameron Indoor where the students can practically touch players. (I'm obviously exaggerating that it would be that close) However close enough where the fans can seriously make an impact and the most promising thing about this is no more games where espn shows our stadium half empty with its skycam. Recruits take notice of things like that.
Great for soccer. But a football field is considerably narrower than the average MLS soccer field. That puts the fans farther away from the field for football.

Which is why everyone is not thrilled with ProPlayer stadium. It was built to support a soccer field. However this new stadium is positive because it is closer to UM and will be a smaller more intimate facility.

The problem is this requires forward thinking, which the admin has not shown the ability to do. This is why there is no plan ON OUR OWN to get out of this stadium and get our own.

Forward thinking takes funding, building a stadium takes funding.

The reason there is "no plan on our own" is because we have no other realistic options. There is absolutely no logical plan currently other than Sun Life Stadium. No amount of forward thinking would be able to finance a football stadium for Miami. None.

Stephen Ross can eat a bag of ****s.

Don't hate the playa, hate the admin that signed this terrible agreement.

I think Prop Joe said that on the wire.

Uhm, these were the same geniuses who gave Golden his long contract extension.

If UM had a law school . . .

Is there anything you actually like about the University of Miami?

My Take:

UM definitely requires a stadium with a minimum of 40,000 seats plus luxury suites (probably a minimum of 30-40) plus a minimum of 1,000 club seats.

UM knows the best time to schedule games is Saturday night so even if only a few got pushed to the night it minimizes the traffic problem for those dates.

Traffic for the other dates can be worked out and look for some innovative ideas like parking at Marine Stadium and taking boat shuttles. Perhaps the biggest negative is that traditional tailgating will be difficult.

A lot of people believe Beckham's group can't get it by the local politicians and voters unless they include UM and UM has the political push and pull to get it done.

Either the Dodge Island (Port of Miami) site or a site near Marlins Stadium is preferable to Sun Life. Ross hasn't yet reached the same conclusion Wayne Huizenga purportedly reached with insiders; that the Dolphins needed a new stadium. If Ross elects to build a new stadium it could change UM's position about partnering with the Dolphins. Ross can lower the field and add a few thousand lousy sightline seats that would be closer but the other 75,000 seats remain far from the field with bad horizontal sightlines. Dolphin Stadium is antiquated.

Many believe that Ross knows the difficult shortcomings of the stadium for the University of Miami and he'll be reasonable. Remember this is a man who donates hundreds of millions to colleges and to take it out on UM will make him look terrible. His business partner, Jorge Perez, is an important member of the UM Board of Trustees.

That is a load of ****. We have no forward thinking to implement a plan. We have other priorities.

We owned a nice piece of vacant land, big enough for a stadium and parking. What did we do? We sold it fund the bleeding hospital.

Oh yes. Yes.

I just question the intelligence, common sense, and intellectual capacity for one organization to make two such dumbass contract agreements.

I understand planning, but I also understand doing dumbass-ness. I'm surprised that they didn't extend Golden until 2030 - with the stellar win/loss column, and the fantastic improvement on defense. And Golden, according to many here, is a defensive and coaching god.

Do the Sports Medicine interns do the contracts?

Why it is possible that some of this is true or has merit, people should know by now not to trust any of these writers. Unnamed sources...I wish that actually meant something.

Agreed this was nothing but Beckham's PR guys making up a bogus story as he continues to add political support from Canes fans to acquire the Port of Miami land battle he is losing bad. Show me where Beckham is telling the city officials the stadium will be build with 40K capacity since he knows that would kill any shot at any downtown water front site. Even at just 25K that stadium has little chance of getting the Port of Miami site due to traffic and parking concerns from the Port's Current business. Beckman is lying. Beckham wouldn't spend one penny of his money to help the Canes build a stadium. Beckham is scum for trying to use the Canes that he will drop us in a heart beat the second he gets the land he wants.
