Barry Jackson On Manny Diaz Buyout

Not sure why idiots were taking the $8 million thing and running with it. Not even UM is dumb enough to pay a 100% remaining as a buyout.

As expected.. we’d owe between $4-6 million. If that’s too much to pay based on what we’ve seen and assuming it continues… fold the program. Not to mention we paid Temple that much to hire him like it was nothing (and it sure seems that the money was just sitting their totally accessible as fast as that happened)
What about if fired right now. This post is really only discussing how much it would be if he's fired after the season. Barry really on said it would be more then half the salary for buyout. How much is more then half? 60%, 70%? Looks like he's owed about 8M for his final 2 seasons, how much is he owed this season? 3 or 4M? Let says he's owed 11M his for his final 3 years? A mid season fire at 60% would be around 6.6M. if you wait until this season is over it would be based on the final 2 years of the contract instead of 3.

Assuming he makes about $3 million a year and has 2.5 years left that’s the $8million total. Even if it’s 70% which is usually about the top end of most buyouts then he’s owed about $5.6 million if fired now and owed around $4.2 million if fired at the end of the year.

So the OP and Bruce Feldman
Feldman said 8M... Manny contract is owed more then 8M right now. He still has 3 years remaining and Barry said he's owed up to 8M his final 2 years so his full contract is somewhere in the 11-12M range with incentives since he has 3 years left

Is that how most contracts work? I thought if you fired a coach in season then you have to pay him for the entire season.

Did you just skip the part where he has to meet a bunch of incentives to actually get to the $8M figure? He doesn’t make $4 M a year so stop using that figure to try and figure out his buyout.

Funny how all these beat writers will regurgitate all the things on this board then spin it with I spoke to “an administrator” “BOT member” etc weeks after its old news here.
Most fans aren't crazy enough to spend their time on message boards looking for any tidbit of news.

It's a smart business model for these 'journalists'.

Idk man until anyone of us actually see the contract then it's anyone guess. Regardless we can all agree it will be cheaper to fire Manny after the season then right now and the school is likely going to take the cheapest route possible if they decide to fire Manny. As long as he's not our coach in 2022 then I really don't care how much the buyout is.

I'd rather not pay him $1.4m to coach out the rest of the season. Fire him now.

It’s not a guess he doesn’t make $4M a year his contract just like every other coaches contract or sports contract in general has incentives in it to get him up to the higher figure.
