Barry Jackson article about the newcomers

I've been saying all along I think he should play corner. He's got the frame, speed, and athleticism for it. He's also raw enough to not have any bad habits. Rumph can build him from the ground up in technique.

Obviously football is in his blood and he's got a decent IQ for only playing 2 years to go along with good ball skills. It would not surprise me at all to see him be a ST guy this year while working at CB then next year be a solid contributor on the defense as the number 3 or 4 guy.

Summary:

-Richt knows depth is an issue and is ready for incoming freshman to have an immediate impact on the field.

-Freshman that come to mind first is Shaq and Pickney with Shaq being a clear start and Pickney/Owens battling it out.

-Coach Manny Diaz has high praise for the trio of Shaq, Pickney, and Mccloud.

-Shaq really making a name for himself on the defense with current DT Mcintosh taking notice how mature Shaq is for a freshman and is a leader out on the field.

-Opportunity for Bethel, JJ, and Tyreic Martin to come in and get early playing time with the injury of Patchan and AQM dealing with the luxury car rental siutation.

-Coach Kool notes that Bethel, JJ, and Martin have a high motor and display a great sense of getting to the QB.

-Coach Kool also notes that JJ will be a dominant player at the U.

-Adrian Colbert will come in and play Corner, expecting to start and taking pride in what he does. Says this is his last chance
to make an impact on the field so he has a sense of urgency.

-Malek Young will see playing time as the other young corners behind Corn and Redwine did not show enough to be considered for playing time, allowing young an immediate impact.

-Banda loves the physicality of the freshmen safetys: Cedric Wright, Jeff James, and Romeo Finley.

-Banda says they like to blitz their safeties so having physical DB's is very important.

-Coach Richt really like the intangbles of Jack Allison and is not scared to not redshirt him if he is the best option to be backup.
“Big, tall, athletic, moves very well, great arm, great accuracy.”

-Will be difficult for Homer to see the field at RB this season but Coach Thomas Brown likes his skillset and says he is a "homerun type of runner"

-Bruce, Richards, and Mullins (if he qualifies) will all see time as freshman barring any suspensions on Bruce.

-Bruce is going to get burn at returner with berrios being able to see the field more at receiver.

-“I can’t wait to see the Samburgini in front of me,” receivers coach Ron Dugans said of Bruce. “I hope he’s Samburgini at the U. He’s a dynamic player.

-Dugans calls Mullins “a playmaker with really good speed” and predicts Richards “is going to be a red zone threat.”

-Transfer Dayall Harris quoted as a "Smooth, Fluid athlete" will get some burn and helps depth wise.

-Irvin Jr. or Haskins could redshirt seeing how the season progresses but they are battling for that backup spot behind Njoku, Herndon, and Dobard.

-Hartley calls Irvin “mature beyond his years, a very gifted pass catcher.”

-Haskins, a three-star recruit from New Jersey, played quarterback in high school. UM sees him as a tight end because, at 6-4, “he has the ability to make people miss, run over people and is extremely athletic,” Hartley said. “We think he is going to be a very special player.”

By next year this squad will have the feel of a real Miami roster speed speed and more speed. No more Golden specials and fat boys undeserving of scholarships at the U

Summary:
-Malek Young will see playing time as Corn and Redwine did not show enough to be named "clear" starters giving the incoming freshman a chance to play early.

I think that might be a touched misread...

"Malek Young has an immediate chance to compete for a top five-cornerback job, because none of the young corners behind Corn Elder and Sheldrick Redwine did enough in the spring to remove doubts."

I think what the author was saying is the Elder and Redwine have slots secured, the other CBs do not as of yet...

You're right, going to go ahead and fix it. Thanks for pointing it out

That's so sad that Corn and Redwine couldn't seperate

They did separate. That part of the article was very easy to misread. The writer was trying to say that the guys behind Elder and Redwine didn't show enough to earn any meaningful PT.

I think it's saying exactly what it says. Especially since Redwine isn't starting opposite corn. Colbert is.

Not a good sign for Redwine to have a career backup for very mediocre defenses at Texas to show up and take his spot just like that.

he's a kid manny recruited to UT isn't he? i heard he was talented but in doghouse there. im sure redwine wil beat him out.

For you brilliant porsters that think that Barry Jackson was saying Redwine and Elder haven't done enough to seperate themselves, you need to go back and repeat 4th grade, because that's the level of reading comprehension that's required to understand that sentence.

What Jackson was saying is that none of the newer/younger DB's have done enough to challenge Corn and Redwine for their slots.

But, if you want to continue to double down on your stupidity, please feel free and go ahead. You're only confirming to all the other people that read this, that you have grade school or lower reading comprehension
