THIS!What an opportunity! Anyone who pooh-poohs it in the admin, donors or here at CIS should probably seriously rethink their objections.
You can't have 3 people in charge.....it was to work for everyone. I am in higher level management for a very large company and i would not be ok with reporting to 2 different people or having someone who's not my boss tell me what to do. Working with someone at a similar level? Fine....but i didn't get to where i'm at by deferring to others and i'm sure an alpha-type HC feels the same.
If the HC is in charge of all personnel (player and asst coach) decisions and Zo's role was assistant AD to work with instead of Blake (meaning same level of HC, not boss) for the rest of football operations, or Football AD with Blake moved elsewhere, then fine. But you need a very clear and workable reporting structure.
Agree. So manny shouldn’t have say on who the AD of football. Blake, Manny, and his father is stalling this whole thing.Agreed. The multiple boss thing doesn't work and it's not appealing to other more competent coaches when we go to hire someone else after Manny is terminated. If Blake James must remain in place, then I vote for James being AD of all other sports while Alonzo runs football exclusively. Blake and Alonzo are Co ADs. The football head coach only answers to Alonzo.
Yes, if blake wants to keep his job. It’s a paradox. Nothing is going to change and yet, this potential change as you describe it, would be an enormous change. So the Football AD would be overseen by the BoT? The same BoT we all despise. Or the school president? The same president who has absolutely no clue about football. And you’re going to strip the current AD of the most important sport in the athletic department? What happens when the Football AD and the HC don’t get along, even when the HC is the star of the show? Why would you give this one person so much power over the HC? It’s a good idea in theory, but it would breed more chaos and disorder like in the pros, IMO.
Alright and Zo will also be responsible for fundraising for the football team and budgeting and financing? Or he’ll require a whole other set of staff for this? Or James continues raising money for a program he has nothing to do with?Yes, if blake wants to keep his job.
The other questions would be the same for any AD/HC relationship.
Manny gets fired.
Then Zo conducts a real national search and hires the most qualified person. If that person succeeds and Miami wins a NC, the coach is a hero for winning the NC and Zo is a hero for hiring the HC and helping to turn around the program. If the coach fails, he gets fired and you start over.
I guess each college has it's own chain of command, but this is not that difficult to set up. Different yes, but it colud work. But according to Barry there is a power struggle over this very scenario.
Most people would not admit they need some supervision where they had none before.
Agreed so it will be back to the board again looking for Manny’s replacement - either mid-season or shortly there afterMario’s lit of UM’s range now. Another missed opportunity.
Yes. Blake is employed by the University of Miami, not the football team at the University of Miami.Alright and Zo will also be responsible for fundraising for the football team and budgeting and financing? Or he’ll require a whole other set of staff for this? Or James continues raising money for a program he has nothing to do with?
That’s $12mil in the past 2-3 seasons. I guess we’ve got it in the coffers since Richt walked away from $20milIt’s $8mm, but still well worth it
What exactly is wrong with his defense? I know it could be better but it's problems are miniscule compared to the offenses. We were highly ranked in a number of defensive categories, and, as I recall, top 25 in many other major categories. Is that correct? I can see some areas that can improve but despite the presence of some less than stellar coaches, and needed improvement in some areas (and some damaging lapses, like on 4th down plays) our record would have been far better with an improved offense.I agree they shouldnt allow Manny to make the decision. It once again shows that Manny doesn’t think anything is wrong with his defense and it is an offensive issue. I hope he figured it out cause I want the Canes to win, I just don’t think he will.
The funny thing or depressing thing is Diaz is responsible for recruiting and signing half the roster that now all of sudden “stinks”! Who’s gonna hold Diaz accountable for that the past 4 years! ******* Mandy is a clown with a dumb lisp, nothing more and the people who hired him should be tarred and feathered.
Honestly think about it, what coach would want that? If you are a coach on the hot seat are you going to want someone to come in that would possibly fire you? No coach would be onboard with that
I get what you’re saying but I think it’d be a terrible idea to hire another “suit,” for reasons already discussed on this board and then some. Isn’t it just easier to hire a better HC and competent AD?
Doesn't anyone on BoT realize fundraiser is easier when your programs win??.
An AD is a huge job with many responsibilities. Football is a small fraction of that and as such an AD can only devote so much time to it. The innovative part of this idea is to strip football away from the AD and have someone dedicated to it full time.
Imagine if the city of Miami had one gm to oversee all it's teams, the Marlins, the heat, the dolphins etc. That would be stupid right? The guy would be spread too thin. Jack of all trades master of none. Why not give our football program one deducted guy just like these pro franchises? That's the kind of forward thinking we need to fix our neverending mediocrity.
