Bandas comment that bothers me

He also praised Bubba Bolden on being athletic, being in the right place at right time, giving full energy but if Bubba doesn’t tackle he’s not going to play. I GET IT but under this theory players like Deion Sanders or CJ Henderson wouldn’t play (I know they are corners).

Seems stupid

If a Safety in our system can’t tackle then we are fkd.

Agreed. Best players have to play. With the passing going on these days you need you back end to cover also

Am I overreacting?

Banda in interview today when discussing the progression of Hall and saying first couple games it’s what he expected (a lot of running around not knowing what he’s doing) and Knowles over took him because of how well he tackled. Banda than said speaking about Hall progressing is he got better at “The Only Thing I Care about, which is tackling”.

Just seemed like an odd comment, while tackling in open space is obviously important what about coverage?

is running routes more important than catching the ball?

I think you’re reading into it too much. The safeties have a ton of pressure on them in this defense and have to be incredibly sure tacklers. Hall has the athleticism to be anywhere on the field he needs to be quicker than almost anyone else. But if he gets there and whiffs or takes a bad angle he’s not better than having a guy (Knowles) get there a step (or five) late and actually make the tackle.

^^^THIS

Henderson wouldn’t play in this scheme. I know he’s an incredible talent, but if he can’t or won’t tackle there is zero chance he gets on the field outside of injuries. Who was the last “soft” player Manny Diaz rolled out to start on Miami’s defense consistently?

Henderson would play and start in this scheme. Henderson is too talented to be on the bench. Him and Bandy would be 1 & 1A. He's the definition of a cover-corner, he literally only covers. The coaches would probably light him up during film on a weekly basis but as long as he's lockdown it really wouldn't matter.

I get what he’s saying that as a saftey and by the name of the position is the last saftey line of the defense usually to mitigate a homerun play

but in today’s game they need to be difference makers if not more so with ball skills and instincts to negate plays...

pointless if he’s late on the play yet makes the critical tackle to stop them

Pick your poison do you want to die because of missed tackles. Or would you rather die because their receivers are open catching TD's. How about finding guys who can do both. Both give you the same result a loss.

I think he's focused on where the player can improve. Tackling is 90% technique and willingness. Any player they sign should have natural athleticism and the ability to cover ground. There is still development there, of course, but a lot of it is God-given movement skills.

As coaches, they emphasize tackling and the results have been impressive.

Banda doesn’t get Florida style football. Coverage matters, INTs are the best part of football IMO. Feels like that’s engrained into kids early down here.
We've been in the top 10 in interceptions among p5 teams over the last 2 years.
I don't think he's minimizing INT's by prioritizing tackling.

Anytime you play a defense that is based on penetration, there will be holes. That’s the gamble you take. So you need Safety’s behind the play that can prevent 7 yard gains from becoming 40 yard gains. Tackling might be the most important aspect of a safety in this defense. So yes Banda is spot on. We had a luxury for 2 years because Johnson and Redwine were great tacklers. Hall is getting there. We need one more safety to step up his game.

^^^^ This.

@MiamiChris , how could you possibly take Banda saying our safeties being sure tacklers is critically important and run with it like that's a negative thing?
