Baker and Banda having a circle jerk on Twitter

I'm surprised every time I see folk complaining about the defense. How can a defense be "elite" if their on the field all the **** time. The offense was hot garbage so the defense had to do overtime every game. That defense with an average offense would've been more fresh and able to stop 4th and 17 like downs...ijs.

It wasn't actually true in 2018. We were solid that year. Being a "paper tiger" has been closer to the truth true in the other years. The irony of "men lie, women lie, numbers don't lie" is numbers lie like crazy when you're selective with the data. When you see total yards and other "total" stats on a list, you should automatically be skeptical. Without 3rd down % and a couple other key metrics - like stats adjusted for pace and opponents - our numbers are shakier in 2019.

We (Franchise, you, myself) are saying the same thing...the general notion here is that our defense is very good that borders on excellent and they'll tout total defense, sack totals, pressures/TFL, etc.

But when you look deeper, Miami's defense while..."solid" isn't elite. Even in 2018, Miami was Top 50-ish in 3rd Down and Red Zone numbers, Top 30 in Pass YPA. Solid enough, but not upper echelon.

The Manny Diaz defense (and this team under this Richt/Diaz era) is just predicated on having a sky high turnover number thats not sustainable. If Miami's not getting a heavy advantage in turnover margin, they have really struggled.

We had 3 points through 3 quarters against FIU and punted 11 times against Duke. Yes, the defense could have tightened up late in those games but they probably just gave up like a lot of people would do in that situation.

I feel like people's expectations for the defense are insane. Are you all just upset 24/7 unless Miami holds everybody to 50 yards and 3 points a game despite zero help from the offense?

When did realistic expectations get thrown out the window?

LMAO just read that a few times to yourself and try not to cry.

Emojifraim Banda is a goofball.

And for all the guys looking at this statistical stuff in the dopey vacuum of “if we scored 30 points per game we’d be 12-0,” it doesn’t work that way. A big part of why we kept scores low was our glacial pace. Put a real offense out there that moves with tempo, and the opponent will also run more plays and score more points.

Our D, while clearly not as feeble as our O, was a paper tiger. I have a feeling our O is going to be a lot of fun this year. Let’s see if the defense continues to put up the same stats.

Our pace of play was counteracted somewhat by the sheer ineptitude of the offense. With as many 3/4-and-outs and turnovers as the offense had, our D should already be used to short rest periods. SMU averaged 29m of TOP last year (rank: 94th), we had 30m(62nd), so if that holds, I think we'll be fine, especially considering the schedule. If the offense is as advertised, I can see our scoring D and pass D rankings dropping a little due to teams passing more to match our scoring, but then our sacks and turnovers increasing for the same reason.

Oh hey look at the faqquit mope squad out today in force over a couple of tweets. Funny most of you were nowhere to be found yesterday, imagine that.

Talked about being triggered. You all must live some pathetic lives to cry like little hoes over something so stupid. Continue on crying like little hoes over twitter

What in the **** is the point of this? If I have the absolute best defense in the country and hold everybody I play to 3 points, but I never score a single point and go 0-12, are you still the dude that shows up to "LOL @ OUR DEFENSE" threads and posts our 0-12 record?

How f***ing lazy can you get?

Dead middle in the FBS was 28.0 PPG. That puts you 65th in the country, which is the exact definition of average.

If Miami scored 28 points in every game, they'd have been 11-2.

I say this probably every other day on this site, but the defense is not the problem. Is it a well-oiled machine who shuts down every offense it sees? Of course not. Can it be improved? Should it be better? Yes and yes.

But just a LITERAL average offense gives this program a 10 win floor. Think about that. Just be the absolute definition of average on offense, and combined with your defense, you'll win 10 games with your eyes closed. What does that tell you? Enough about the defense. Go be average on offense, or -- God forbid -- ABOVE average (gasp!!) and see how many complaints you have about the defense. We can talk about them over a beer in Charlotte.
Defense was never challenged this season. The best offences they played were UNC and Louisville and they got exposed both GameStop

We were #1 in the country in 3rd down defense (26.5%) in 2018, however. 64th in 2017 and 53rd in 2019.

Anyone disagree?

GT, FIU, Duke, La Tech losses were on the offense
UF loss was on Baxa, Jarren, Campbell, Thomas muffed punt, poor tackling on Toney TD
VT and UNC losses were on the defense and Baxa

Wrong.

GT was a terrible team that should not have scored a TD in OT, so that is on the defense too, as well as Baxa, who missed the winning FG.
FIU should not have scored 30, so that is on the defense too.
Duke should not have scored 27, so that is on the defense too.

The issue is not "unrealistic expectations".

The issue is Banda tweeting a bunch of boasts that are not as impressive when you analyze the specific games.

We gave up a bunch of points (not to mention third and fourth down conversions) to bad teams.

I would let Banda (or any of our coaches) brag about beating UVa if we had beaten UNC, GaTech, FIU, Duke, and LaTech.

Again, consider the origin of this thread, and stop generalizing it to "bad UM fans having unrealistic expectations and making poor criticisms".

Stick to "Banda brags about our great defense after we lost 7 games".

THAT is what UM fans are tired of hearing about.

And I believe he missed another chip shot earlier in the game. Followed by another chip shot miss by McLovin.
