Aubrey Hill Out!!!!

Sorry but I don't see how this changes anything. No one knows when the sanctions are coming out and what they will be or what the NCAA even has on everyone. Shannon could easily resign in the next week.

Miami investigated Shapiro and found nothing to make them think he was a bad person. Randy told the players to stay away from Shapiro on a hunch because Randy had some street smarts in him. Shapiro was a professional con-man who conned a billion dollars out of people with money. Shapiro has said he has an axe to grind. Miami self reported and has been cooperative. "“The reality is that Miami, the university, has been incredibly cooperative,” Emmert said. “[Miami] President Shalala is doing an incredible job of interacting with us. Donna is doing a great job. She is being very, very helpful.”. The University of Miami paid all funds donated to them from Shapiro back. 11 current players were investigated and 8 were suspended. The worst penalty was O. Vernon for 6 games and it was over $1500 or so correct? UNC had players who were kicked out of college for their infractions to give you an idea of the difference.

When that many players are investigated and nobody is kicked out of NCAA football that gives you a gauge in severity of what to expect IMO. It's sounding like the Shapiro story is 10% truth and 90% complete fabrication from a pathological lying con-man felon. Yeah he probably weaseled his way into having access when he could get it but for the most he was good at what he does.

No way the NCAA drops the hammer when Miami has cooperated fully or no program will trust them on their campus ever again. Miami has taken a proactive approach and will be rewarded for doing it IMO.

For once I agree with you, but I am still very cautious about it all, and know there is a chance we get slammed. The biggest thing here is regarding Randy, as long as he is able to keep his job, you have to think it bodes well for us. This is the first time I have actually felt good about something regarding this investigation.

What would you consider getting "slammed"?
Probation for 4 years
25-35 schollys over 3 or 4 years
Plus having to play at 70 or 75 for 3 years
1 more bowl ban

^^^^^Shhheeeeiiit. That's waay too harsh. 15 schollys...bowl ban? time served.

I don't think there's any way we get hit with those kind of scholarship reductions. That's close to what Penn State got.

Shalala was in politics... she knows what she's doing.

However, she played a big role in hiring Shannon (imo for PC reasons) which is why we're in this mess to begin with.

Which leads us to this. Should liberals stay out of business decisions?

Which mess are you referring to? If you mean this team being void of talent and needing to be rebuilt from the ground up, then yes.

If you mean he was guilty of the Shapiro handouts I'm not sure I agree. It's pretty well known that he hated the little ********** and wanted him far away from the team. Most of the talk you hear is that he warned his players to stay away from him, and did the same to the coaches. The worst thing he is possibly guilty of is finding out Hurtt was dealing with Shapiro and sending Hurtt off to Louisville rather than canning and reporting his friend. (that part is just speculation on Hurtts departure)

"ten", **** half the country had Miami getting the death penalty. The sanctions are going to sting, no question, but USC's current state/survival give me hope that Miami can do the same.

USC appealed their sanctions, so they haven't started feeling them. It's coming though.

Shannon was incompetant and his coaching staff walked all over him. I guess that's what I meant by "mess."
He was too inexperienced but she wanted to make a splash, black hire (for the wrong reasons)

I wish the board of trustees had more say (like at big booster Universities)

Can you expand on this? The penalties haven't begun?

Not their scholarship reductions. They have a full squad right now... but not after this year.

As part of the rules, USC was able to delay their sanctions by appealing them. During the appeal process, they were allowed to continue offering scholarships as normal. They then loaded up on players which is allowing them to go on this run now, but the lack of scholarships will probably start hitting them next season and/or the one after. That being said, they have, so far, managed them pretty well to be able to absorb some of the hit. Knowing what they would be hit with, but being given an extra recruiting season while they were appealing, really helped them as they could plan around the sanctions as much as possible. Normally a school does not have a full recruiting cycle between when sanctions are announced and when they hit.

This article from last year explains it a lot better than I can: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011/writers/stewart_mandel/01/24/usc.recruiting/index.html

You don't feel the full impact until they are over. USC won't be hit the hardest until 2015-2016.

Aubrey Hill's name has been dropped in headlines and stories all over the country since the NCAA first began investigating Miami for various recruiting violations. The former Hurricanes assistant and most recent Gators wide receivers coach was linked to a number of the issues reported at Miami. Friday morning it was announced he has resigned from his duties at UF. With that in mind, Inside the Gators takes a look at how all of this factors in for Florida going forward.

HOW IT CAME ABOUT: Hill was touted as a true Florida name when he was brought to the Gators in 2011 after a few years as a wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator at Miami. He was given the same position for the Gators but it did not take long for the stories to circulate. When Yahoo! Sports broke UM recruiting violations via infamous booster Nevin Shapiro, Hill's name consistently popped up in reports [Related: Hill named in Miami allegations | Wrong doing continued under Golden, Hill named once again]. During the 2011 season, Florida played it off. But when Charlie Weis left and new offensive coordinator Brent Pease stepped in, issues became more than Miami. A former receivers coach himself, Pease was not happy with the crop of wide receivers he found in Gainesville or the shape they were in fundamentally when he arrived. He commented on his feelings toward the receivers a number of times during spring camp and took a very hands-on role in coaching them. Pease began working extensively with receivers and taking a large role in positional meetings. At Friday Night Lights, he kept a close eye on Hill's groups. Then Friday morning, news broke that Hill would be leaving Florida for "personal reasons."

WHAT IT MEANS FOR 2012: Hill was well-known for his connections in South Florida and ability to recruit the area. His name regularly comes up when recruits are asked which coach on Florida's staff they are closest to. But as a coach, he was often criticized for lacking an ability to truly develop players. Only one Florida receiver caught 20 or more passes in 2011 and the team's top-two receivers were a running back and a tight end. Florida will now look to Pease and offensive graduate assistant Bush Hamdan to work with receivers in 2012. Half of that probably isn't much different from what would have happened whether or not Hill left. Pease enjoys working closely with the wide receivers, and he likely would have crossed paths a little too often with Hill had Hill stayed on this year. Hamdan is a former backup Boise State quarterback who is in his first year at Florida.

ALONG THE RECRUITING TRAIL: With six months to go until Signing Day, if there is any damage done with the current wide out commits or the south Florida kids Hill was responsible for as the area recruiter, there is more than enough time to do some damage control. As for the wide receivers specifically, for the most part, other than Rodney Adams, they all came out as being still firmly committed to the Gators [Related: Only one is wavering]. Where his absence might be felt is in the overall process going forward. While Will Muschamp named replacements for Hill from an on-the-field coaching standpoint, in the press release, no mention was made of who is replacing Hill as Florida's Recruiting Coordinator. With the Class of 2013 all but wrapped up, how does his departure impact the recruiting efforts for the Class of 2014 and beyond is a question that needs to be answered.

LOOKING AHEAD: Muschamp will meet with the media Friday evening and likely stay away from making any definitive statements about today's news. He has said in a statement he will not bring on a permanent replacement for Hill until December. It wouldn't be surprising to see Muschamp dip back into the pool of former Gators when looking to fill the spot. Former UF wide receiver Wes Chandler is currently the wide receivers coach at California, and mid-1990s standout Jacquez Green is a high school offensive coordinator in Tallahassee who is still very well-connected at Florida. Also, don't rule out the possibility of Pease returning to his comfort zone at handling wide receivers and looking elsewhere for a new quarterbacks coach.

Since Bridgewater went to another school, is what went down or didn't go down with Bridgewater even a violation? The NCAA has already set a precedndet that they don't care what you did while being recruited as long as you don't go there. A recruit can go on 4 "anything goes visits" as long as he doesn't do anything illegal at the school he signs with.

I believe the recruit is not penalized in that situation, but the school hosting him could be.

How many Louisville players from Miami will declared ineligible if Hurtt was corrupt in their recruitment? Hurtt sucked as a player at UM, and the worse thing Shannon did was bring him over from FIU.

Yeah this is the first recruiting cycle they're feeling the sting. They can only sign 15 kids. And because they're on probation Silas Redd counts against their numbers which wouldn't have been the case at a school not on probation.
