Clemson’s AWFUL running QB proceeded to complete his first 17(?) passes. Just ridiculous.
Took Diaz a whole half to figure out man to man was the way to go.

1000%%% facts. If we have an offense that gives our D a chance to catch its breath and not be out on the field all the time we should do a lot better. In general, as I have said in many many threads-
Statistically, our defense has been consistent and borderline elite for three years, regardless of the spin cycle posted on how many points given up against teams. That is just facts.
Things to support this-
1. JW high as a kite throwing short field int's that lead to scores
2. Total inability to score points really puts extra pressure on D. TOP for us was hugely lopsided and that puts added pressure on our defense.
Anyone who ever played this ******* sport at ANY level can tell you its a lot easier to play lights out defense when you are up by 21 points instead of down by 17 on a short field. This defensive talk about them needing to step up is absurd. The sky is not falling on defense.
The only changes on defense is we need our DTs to penetrate like Willis, Norton and Mac did. Our tackles need to use their hands more. Everything starts up front. Good DTs takes pressure off our young LBs and also helps our DBs.
THE.
*******.
END.
I'm ok with regression.. I just see us getting out-schemed constantly by good O minds
I was mainly creating a discussion but all your points are valid. I could rebut (UF Franks led, etc) but I won't. We played solid on D. No doubt. However your last part about needing elite talent is what I'm saying. Manny's scheme was a perfect fit for Miami.. but it doesn't mean it isn't flawed. He's not some defensive guru (just compatible) IMO. He will always need to out-talent teams. Hard to do with a Clemson. JMOthink you’re being a bit hyperbolic
We have been giving teams more offensive snaps by going 3 and out on all of these drives the majority of times in games.
Smu averaged 29 minutes of time of possession per game, Miami was around 30 minutes. Minuscule difference really. Better than going scoreless vs la tech and then fiu up until the 4th quarter, I’m sure they will like more scoringYeah but now they will face even more snaps.
I wonder the difference in plays ran and points scored in that time.Smu averaged 29 minutes of time of possession per game, Miami was around 30 minutes. Minuscule difference really. Better than going scoreless vs la tech and then fiu up until the 4th quarter
Trash? D'Onofrio's scheme was trash. Manny's scheme is significantly better and that's just facts.
Yes, they can get too cute sometimes. Yes, I scratch my head when I see a DE covering a back or the flats instead of rushing. Yes, they seem to play favorites (although I'm not at practice or in meetings to fully assess why certain player gets more reps over other more talented players). But, with that said, calling this scheme trash is pure hyperbole.
