Article: Hurlie Brown To Be New RB Coach

View as article
If Hurlie is the new RB corch, then that should absolutely unequivocally prove what I've been preaching forever--RB corch is a place for a mega-recruter, and any competent HS level corch can be a RB corch. I always LULZ'd at the Soldinger leg humpers who tried to convince everyone what a genius he is by pointing to Portis, EJ, and the likes.

I don't know anything about Hurlie as a recruiter, but Alshermond The Don must think he's awesome in that role, or he wouldn't have hired him. I wanted Telly Savalas, but maybe he'll replace Hurlie as DFO.

THE FRANCHISE JUST GETS IT

I DONT EVEN HAVE TO POST ANYMORE THE FRANCHISE IS ON THE SAME WAVE LENGTH AS THE POOPS ON NEARLY EVERY SUBJECT

This dude Poops is a gentleman and a scholar. A true man of letters.

Apparently he coached the 4th best pass defense in the country at FIU. not sure how that translates to offense, but we'll see.

Its a little concerning we dont have much experience on our offensive coaching staff

They better recruit their *** off. With this kind of staff no more evil HS coaches excuses. Win at least 10 games and lock it down on NSD next season

Chise, I agree with your opinion on RB coach. The "easiest" position to corch. That said, is Hurlie really a beast of a recruiter? I hadn't read that about him.

I wanted Solly...but I would roll Solly out at 97 years old in a Mobility scooter...anyone who has ever been coached by him thinks he's a God. He is the GOAT RB Coach. I don't care if he doesn't want kids on his lawn...

BUT...I'm intrigued to see what we can do with Hurlie on the recruiting trail. This is obviously a move to take this guy who is great at the front office stuff to see if he can get put out into the field and do his thang.

Intrigued to see if Telly Lockette moves into the Operations position.
Admittedly, I don't know **** about Lockette or the football ops position, but what makes him a legitimate candidate in everyone's eyes?

I think just because he had two interviews (reportedly) with the staff so we appear to be serious about bringing him on board

AU, I have no idea on his recruiting. He's never really had the chance to sell Ferraris. He's been schlepping away on the used car lot selling "cream puffs" with "limited mileage" at the two stops in his corching career. I have a feeling he was very impressive and organized in his role as DFO and that Alshermond The Don is attempting to extrapolate that along with his energy, enthusiasm and gregarious personality to the recruiting trail.

I was all in on Telly Savalas, but there were the same questions with him and recruiting because he's never done it before. There's a little guess work there on all of the candidates, but if they possess the personality and work traits I listed above they should be able to recruit well here. I'm happy he hired a relatively young black dude. I think it was imperative to add a black man to the corching staff.

On top of what J said a big part of the HB's old job is community outreach and Lockette would fit nicely there. He would be able to help with recruiting as well.

Hiring a RB coach with zero playing or coaching experience on the offensive side of the ball is just stupid. Bad decision.

And if you think an RB coach is meaningless and doesnt have a significant impact on a RBs performance you don't know **** about football.

I don't think Mike Ditka played defense yet he was known as a defensive minded coach. Jimmy Johnson was an offensive lineman and he was defensive minded as well.
Reading Al Golden's bio you see that he was a captain at Penn State as a tight end, then went to be a HS offensive coordinator, then a graduate assistant at UVA coaching linebackers, then a lb coach at Boston College, then defensive coordinator at UVA.
Golden has never been a tight end's coach in his life yet that was the position he played.

I think it would be difficult for say someone like The Edge to come to a young rb and try to teach them something that can't be taught, you know natural ability. How could Barry Sanders for example teach someone to run like he did?
Also it seems pragmatic to believe that a person who spent his whole football life as a safety trying to stop running backs to know quite a bit about what it takes to beat a defense for a running back.

.

I agree 100% with this. Almost any competent coach can switch coaching positions and teach what every kid at the position needs to learn. What can't be taught is the special thing called talent.

What Soldinger did that he sowsnt get wnough credit for is he stayed on top of his RBs nutrition & weight room efforts.

Portis talked about Soldinger always having the RB crew over for healthy meals at his house with his family. Said that Solly made sure they were meeting ther "playing weight" each week.

He brought those guys together and also helped turn them into physical, NFL ready backs.

i remember the 1991 season like it was a few years ago! i am so old, it was my junior year in college and I was studying in the Middle East

did Armstead pass away in the last few years?
whatever happened to Stephen Maguire?!

great to listen to Gino on CS Radion 91 XM now- he is better than Danny Kannell!

My gut instinct doesn't really like the hire. He better be a stud recruiter and I think at best it's an unknown.

I guess I blindly follow Golden in everything else, what's the difference with this hire? Hopefully it turns out OK.
