Armondo Blount could break out this season

So really, this dude is honestly only about a year older than kids who will be true freshmen in the fall for us. He's still so young, and it's Year 3. But this is about the time you'd expect him to really turn it on.

Blount, Lightfoot, Wilson, Lowe, Moten, Scott is an insane Top 6 as far as on-paper talent mixed with verified production, and then you add in Third, Pickett, Davis, and Carter...that's legitimately 10 kids you should be able to put into a football game and trust them, and NONE of them are true freshmen aka just simple wishful thinking. Yes, I know Lowe hasn't played yet, but he's a year removed from HS, physically he should be more than ready to contribute.

But that's *TEN* kids who are either:

1) Confirmed to be very, very good players (Moten, Scott, Wilson, Lightfoot)
2) 5-star recruits that are not true freshmen (Lowe, Blount)
3) Rotational players at P4 schools (Third, Pickett, Davis, Carter)

I'm not trading this DL room for anyone's in the country. Nobody.

Right on the money! I've been consistent in saying that this DL will be among the top 5 DLs in the nation. I don't want to get into hyperbolic territory but I agree with you in terms of not wanting to trade this group for any other DL group in the country.

I think Blount and Lowe are the Wilcards here. Both are extremely talented and Blount should breakout. If Lowe contributes to the level I believe him to be capable of then this could be the best DL in the nation and I'm not even factoring in the 4 players you have in your #3 group who I also expect to produce.

On 1st down he could serve as SDE along with Moten, Scott and Lowe (if back and ready to go). That’s legit going to shut down run games for no gains on 1st.
Then on 2nd and 3rd, he could slide inside, rotating with Moten/Scott with Wilson, Lightfoot and Pickett on the outside. I think the majority of 2nd down are going to be pass plays for opposing offenses as I see them consistently behind the sticks after 1st.

Every 3rd series or 4th series, rotate the 2nd group of players since we are so deep.

He’ll be 260 - 270 at the start of the season, likely a lower body fat. It’s hard to keep a caloric surplus in a Florida summer.

Your hit rate on 4/5 star prospects is going to be a lot higher when you’re recruiting kids with this kind of character and intelligence that allow themselves to be developed. This was Butch’s formula - size and speed combined with character and a love for ball

Dmoney, Is there another program doing it better right now?
 
The power he plays with will make him a problem for tackles.

Not a single one. Miami will rotate FIVE, 5star defensive lineman and that doesn’t include Moten who is widely considered a top 3-5 DT in the nation. Then you add Keona Davis and Jarquez Carter to the mix at DT, along with former 4stars Booker Pickett Jr. and Herbert Scroggins III. It’s about to get scary up front.

Not to mention that all of that talent is being coached by two former NFL guys and one of them just so happens to have a gold jacket.

Look at him. He looks like he's 240. Barely any fat at all. Really just depends on what you want him to do. I genuinely believe this kid could hold 300 pounds and become a first-round DT. Or you can keep him at 265 and let him play on the strongside edge.

The way he clowned FSU and flip flopped was funny but tbh I thought it was a bit of a red flag. Not a red flag maybe but…worth noting

But he was showing his off season training and talking about a few things and I immediately tossed that red flag out. He was all about work.

Also I very rarely listen to coaches talk, it's 99.9% bull****, but JT was REALLY raving about Blount headed into last season. Like, over the top stuff he doesn't really get too deep into with most kids.

If you think about it, NOBDOY is Mali. So that path is basically unprecedented. But if you're going to do what he did, it's going to be at a position like WR. It's not going to be at DE/DT.

So let's take a trip to fairyland for a minute and forget that we have a kid who blew the sport up as a reclassifying should-have-been-senior-in-HS last year. Let's pretend like 2024 was Blount's senior year of HS, and I think you mentioned (correctly), he'd have pushed for the #1 overall recruit in the country. OK, we sign him. Then, last year in 2025 is the very first time we see him. The highlights posted in this thread are his true freshman season. People would be going insane over this dude right now. Holy ****, you see how good Blount was as a true freshman?! He's going to blow the **** up in 2026 in Year 2, watch!

I think he's almost being brushed aside a little bit because he came in a year early. Had he just stayed the original path, he'd have way more buzz right now. But the fact is, this is, age-wise, his sophomore season. And were it really that, we'd be thinking we had another potential all-american on our hands.
