Armondo Blount could break out this season

Agreed. If we're being totally fair, he should be a sophomore right now. He just turned 19 years old this year. He doesn't turn 20 until 2027 (He was born in 2007).

So really, this dude is honestly only about a year older than kids who will be true freshmen in the fall for us. He's still so young, and it's Year 3. But this is about the time you'd expect him to really turn it on.

Blount, Lightfoot, Wilson, Lowe, Moten, Scott is an insane Top 6 as far as on-paper talent mixed with verified production, and then you add in Third, Pickett, Davis, and Carter...that's legitimately 10 kids you should be able to put into a football game and trust them, and NONE of them are true freshmen aka just simple wishful thinking. Yes, I know Lowe hasn't played yet, but he's a year removed from HS, physically he should be more than ready to contribute.

But that's *TEN* kids who are either:

1) Confirmed to be very, very good players (Moten, Scott, Wilson, Lightfoot)
2) 5-star recruits that are not true freshmen (Lowe, Blount)
3) Rotational players at P4 schools (Third, Pickett, Davis, Carter)

I'm not trading this DL room for anyone's in the country. Nobody.

Hard not to view Blount as Bain's direct replacement as an edge setting beast with a relentless motor. But with some added weight he could morph into William Joseph, if he hasn't already. Joseph played DE in 1999 and 2000 before moving inside full-time and never looking back.

Blount's already proven versatile enough to handle any job along the DL, and the thought of him lining up at DE before sliding inside on 3rd and long, flanked by any combo of Wilson, Moten, Lightfoot, Lowe, Scott, Scroggins, Pickett will be fun to fantasize about all summer.

 
He was making plays in the biggest games of the season as a completely raw player barely removed from high school

He’s the next one imo. Going to have a BEAST season with the coaching and his work ethic (that I’ve seen)

People that don’t follow recruiting as closely I’m sure know he was an elite prospect, but if he stayed in his class he would have been vying for #1 recruit in the entire country
 
I think more than anything he takes a big leadership role in this defense. He's all business and plays as hard as anyone on the team. Let him wreck the run game and bump inside on passing downs.

Moten is about to BLOW UP. I watched a lot of D All-22 from the end zone... guy has IT.
 
We will rotate so much more this year, and in the end, I could easily see Blount with the most snaps on the DL.

On 1st down he could serve as SDE along with Moten, Scott and Lowe (if back and ready to go). That’s legit going to shut down run games for no gains on 1st.
Then on 2nd and 3rd, he could slide inside, rotating with Moten/Scott with Wilson, Lightfoot and Pickett on the outside. I think the majority of 2nd down are going to be pass plays for opposing offenses as I see them consistently behind the sticks after 1st.

Every 3rd series or 4th series, rotate the 2nd group of players since we are so deep.

I mean that’s how you looked at it….

But yes, all 3 need to step it up to another level. They’re replacing big time talent so yes it’s time for them to take it up to that 5* level.

Been saying this. We have so much versatility here, it's insane.

You can come out on 1st and 10 with Blount, Moten, Scott, and Wilson, and that's a ridiculously talented line, and you can come out on the next 1st and 10 (I know this isn't your best run stopping line, but humor me), with Lowe, Blount/Carter, Davis, and Lightfoot. That's still a really talented line.

You can go heavy with Blount at SDE, Moten, Scott, and Lowe.

Or you can go NASCAR with Wilson, Blount, Scott/Moten, and Lightfoot.

And I genuinely think you can survive with either of those....even with the heavy package (pause), we have kids who can get to the passer, for sure. And even in the NASCAR package, I don't think anyone we play will just run over that combination at all.

So much talent and versatility, it's silly. I still need to see someone set an edge the way I did Bain and Mesi. If someone can come close to replicating that, I genuinely believe this DL, overall, will be just as good, if not better. But it's fun to imagine the combinations and different **** JT, Lewis, and Heatherman can do here. We have 10 guys I wouldn't mind seeing in the football game at virtually any point.

Lowe has work to do. He probably is the 5th DE right now He is going to have to show up in fall camp. I expect Blount and Wilson to start at DE and Lightfoot to be the 3rd guy and will play a lot
