Are we over the Garcia hype yet?

I think it's a good thing when your backup QB can go on the road and get a win. CIS negativity never disappoints smmfh

“Get a win”.

We had a 14% postgame expectancy against easily one of the 5 worst P5 teams in America. Yes, we won, and I’m happy for the kids. They deserve a little fun, and winning is fun. But make no mistake, that performance was nauseating and we have now played a good game exactly 0 times this season. So that tells you, we’re not good. Jake has been completely awful so far this year in his appearances. I was hoping a full week of reps with the ones would get him going, but he was absolutely awful yesterday. To say we were lucky to win that game is an understatement, although I’m not even sure there was a winner. Certainly nobody who watched it won. Pitiful display of football from two terrible teams.

No one looks comfortable in this Gattis trash. Jake looked his best in his first spring game after only 3 months on campus.

it wasn't specifically garcia hype it's just the known football fact among all fanbases that the backup quarterback is the most beloved person on any roster. this board does it with nearly every position. Assuming that we're somehow choosing to play worse players and then when they play it starts to make sense

Not sure what to think of Jake’s performance yesterday given the circumstances.

He looked timid and unsure of himself. He locked onto his primary receiver way too often and rarely went thru progressions. He missed badly on all his deep shots. There was no sense of urgency or fire. The pace of play was slow. In other words, he did not look like the Jake we have seen glimpses of in the past. Not for a single play (well…maybe the 2 point conversion).

It makes you wonder whether he was coached to play conservatively...told not to take any chances and let the game come to him.

I don’t think he is better than TVD. That much is sure. But, not ready to say he sux given the OC and other factors.

Agree on the hesitation. Even on the last play he could've just flip it to Brantley but instead he took the more difficult option of running it in.
In his post game presser he actually said that. He said something along the lines of not trusting himself based off of how the game was going so thats why he ran it in instead of throwing it to Khalil.
Thats very telling.

I am if Gattis is the play caller. Systems changes QB. Hendon Hooker looked like a clown at VT and is now the Heisman favorite

Let's not rewrite history. Hooker came in as a freshman behind Ryan Willis and played solid that freshman season. COVID year went wonky for the Hokies and the kid transferred out, but he showed poise that 2019 season—getting his first start against Miami and rolling (a week after the Willis-led Hokies were rolled 45-10 at Duke.)

Hooker didn't look anything like a clown at Virginia Tech, but anything to find a way to tie all Miami's offensive woes back to Gattis and not the fact that Jake Garcia is far from ready.

The point was without knowing time table for TVD return a win no matter how ugly with our backup QB was crucial for a little momentum down the stretch of this season. We can play stat games all day but we threw that out the window even when tvd was healthy. No doubt there is a scheme issue but we are stuck with that at least til end of season. We are not a good team currently but feel like a gritty win on the road with backup QB was something positive that could help get us to bowl eligibility. I'm not one to settle for mediocrity since I've been a fan since the mid 80's but unfortunately it is the situation we are in

Y’all trashing Garcia in here something awful smh. Did he play great in his first REAL start in college football? No. Is there room to improve? For sure.

You know who else had room to improve? Tyler Van Dyke. No one remembers his 1st real start last year against this same Virginia squad? TVD went 15/29 passing with a bunch of bad looking throws too.

I’ll let you guess what Garcia’s completion/attempt ratio was.

Bottom line, the kid is not a garbage quarterback. He had a poor performance with a bunch of things not in his favor. Giving up on him ever being good is dumb, especially considering we’ll probably be seeing him next week.

Jake Garcia looks to me like a redshirt freshman who started his first college game yesterday.
And with a poor scheme on offense. He looks like some of us expected him to look.
TVD spoiled us last year into thinking redshirt freshman just step in and start throwing darts.
