And something else that has been on my mind - we just had a generational QB (generational for Miami) that went 1/1. The all-time receptions and yards leader in Miami history and he went undrafted.. and not a single WR drafted.

Clown from Caneville mentions overhearing a scout at pro day asking how Miami missed the playoffs with "all of this talent" - tally that one up as more BS they spew as it clearly wasn't said. We had a 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th round pick on offense. That's about as mediocre as it gets for a surrounding cast for the QB on a top 25 team.

Who falls on the sword for WR development? 0 draft picks at WR since 2020 at Miami. Mario has 0. Mario had 1 WR drafted at Oregon in one of the last picks of the 7th round (Dillon Mitchell) and that's his only one since TY Hilton. That was his last WR drafted as a HC aside from the 239th pick in the 2019 draft. Sure, he signed Troy Franklin at Oregon, too but got nothing from him in 1 year.

Kevin Beard has signed 1 WR that has ever been drafted - Josh Palmer at Tennessee (who he never coached - technically didn't even sign him but he did recruit him and have a commitment). He coached Coley for 1 year and he went in the 7th round as well.

Well I also didn't see him on any AA teams, nor did he grade out much better as a sophomore than as a freshman on PFF.

You're free to rely on your personal eye test over literally every single 3rd party evaluation out there, of course.

I also stopped paying too much attention to PPF’s linemen grades when they gave good scores to a bunch of the guys who played for Manny. Maybe it’s just my eye test but it’s pretty easy to notice when a guy gets beat like a drum.

PFF releases grades too fast for OL to be accurate. How would they know a grade when they don’t know the responsibilities on the play?

I realized how bad they were when Lance would do his breakdowns

what sucks is Horton and Young were actually developed under Beard but will be drafted from other schools

Look at Oregon's draft pick totals while Mario was HC and as soon as he left.

Won't even go into who's recruits these were - because most really weren't his but I'll give him credit for them.
19 - 4 (1 4th, 1 5th, and 2 in 7th)
20 - 4 (1st, 4th, 5th, and 6th)
21 - 5 (1st, 2nd, 5th, and 2 6th)
22 - 1 (1st)
Under Lanning:
23 - 6 (1st, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 2 in 7th) 1st rounder and one of the 7th rounders were not signed by Mario
24 - 8 (2 in 1st, 2nd, 5 in 4th, 6th) 1st rounder and 3 of the 4th rounders were not signed by Mario
25 - 10 (2 in 1st, 2nd, 3 in 3rd, 2 in 5th, 6th, 7th) 1st rounder, 2 of the 3rd rounders, 1 of the 5th rounder, 6th rounder, and 7th rounder were not signed by Mario. Technically the other 1st rounder wasn't either but Mario was in position to land Connerly before leaving for Miami.

Sure, there's guys that left Oregon after he went to Miami that ended up getting drafted elsewhere. Trey Benson, DJ James, Donte Thornton, Bradyn Swinson, etc. (None of which he even thought highly enough of to bring to Miami FWIW)

He's basically good for 4 draft picks per year. Was at 1 in year 4 at Oregon..... YIKES. That was really before the portal went to madness as well.

I'm 80% out on the guy. 2025 is probably the last chance he has to convince me it will ever be different.

It's not that you don't have an interesting point. It's just that if we have a team full of Xavier Restrepos that don't get drafted I would still be satisfied by the room.

Crazy what you see when the lights come on. When I was celebrating the prospect of replacing Beard it was unpopular. Mediocrity is celebrated in this regime.
 
One thing I noticed in the bowl game is all the young faces at wide receiver caught the football when it made it to them. Before Beard that was an issue

Whether it was actually said or not… there’s definitely something there.

Clemson won the conference. They had a 4th, 6th and 7th round pick.

SMU made the title game and found away to lose only one game in the regular season. 2 draft picks… both of whom were transfers from here who couldn’t find a significant role while here. 5th and 7th round picks… respectively.

GT who we lost to… 2 picks. 5th and 7th rounders.

Syracuse… with their “all world” TE. He was their first player drafted, 5th round. Ours went 2nd round of course. Their QB who we allowed to overtake Cam for leading the ACC in passing yards went in the 6th round. Immediately before our kicker who was the first specialist taken in the draft. Then they had 2 7th rounders taken after that.

We could spend time and get mad about if a GM said it or if it was a thought from Caneville solely.

But when you compare our roster to who actually made the playoffs and who we lost to… can’t really defend it with the “weak roster” claim.

This roster was absolutely good enough to win the ACC then take their beating in the first round against Texas (like Clemson) because we didn’t have a good enough roster.

I don't know. When they are non rotational back ups I just vaguely know what their recruiting ranking is and if there is hype. I recall being pleased with how the lessers caught the ball.

I remember when X was hurt a few years ago and none of the other WRs on the team could catch.

Young getting drafted in the CFL 😂..zay getting drafted to the military?? Tf mofos with 500 yrs szn as a n.3 option getting drafted 😂😂
