An evaluation the staff may have hit on..

Not to mention we’re basically hoping and praying that no major injuries happen. We were incredibly fortunate across the board last season on the front. If Blay and/or Scott go down for a significant amount of time we’ve got MAJOR problems.
you could say this about basically every teams starters at positions like DT though… how many programs do yall think have a 5 deep of proven DTs?

Brace yourself. CIS isn’t ready to hear that.
Why on earth shouldn't we be? I mean yeah we're gonna be because CIS but still, we just lost a generational QB, his go-to WR, our primary RB and TE, and whatever talent we do have left is either young, hurt, or just coming off being hurt.

We could go 8-5 or 11-2 or anywhere in between and anyone who says they know which way it'll happen is a big fat liar.

Miami hasn’t had a legit dominant DT since Vince Wilfork -Who grew up in Palm Beach county

Even when the program wasn’t relevant in the 70’s they at really good DT’s and most of them were from South Florida-like Eddie Edwards,Don Latimer both from Fort Pierce Central,Rubin Carter-Stranahan,Lester Williams-Carol City and others

If Simpson can help us down the road it will be huge-

We all know when we were winning big time we always had great DT’s-

We need to get there again -Whether there from here or elsewhere.
Seriously. I miss having NFL DTs on the roster. There is a real correlation between winning championships and having great DTs.

I literally said your last sentence to a friend yesterday. If all the question marks and players needing to bounce back all hit then 10-11 is possible. If not god have mercy.

The kicker alone is an enormous question mark and we lost Mr automatic. Kickers can be head cases and Auburn has been all over the place the last two years . Two extremes. Just like the season could be. Nothing with this roster would surprise me . Which is new , I usually have a pretty decent idea where a team is headed. So many uncertainties with this squad.

The OL is the one big positive for me.

I grew up watching the DT’s blow every snap up . Which made playing behind them so easy. That one group will be the tell things are different. Better recruiting is needed at DT to be a big dog. I repeat this every year “ there’s only so many dancing bears walking the earth”.

How Mario doesn’t prioritize the DT position more is beyond me. My expectations on this DT room are low. Ridiculous we are going into year 4 with this lack of depth and experience.

Don’t get me started on the LB’s.

Agreed 100%. I miss the days of Brown, Sapp, Wilford, etc. Everyone looked better behind them.

High probability of being at least good:

Extreme Boom or Bust:

Low Expectations but Likely solid:

... I could agree with saying the season probably hinges on WR and DT playing to their potential/talent level. If they both "boom" then I think 10 wins is minimum.

This is where I'm at, too. I consider them the biggest risks to a playoff run. I have higher confidence in WR than DT because I love what I saw in Jojo during the bowl and Daniels at Liberty. The good news is that DT should be okay at least for the first few games (ND and UF) before the season's grind starts taking its toll.

9/13 were top 5 at their position

Gotta recruit top end talent at the position

Good breakdown. WR, DT, and LB are the potential problem areas. WR - I'm somewhat optimistic 2-3 guys will emerge from the group. DT - If everyone stays relatively healthy, we should be in decent shape (but that probably won't happen). LB - I just don't know.

Not liking how our LB recruitment has started as Griffen seems to be less and less likely. Our DC, who is responsible for LB’s, isn’t exactly a good recruiter.

Why do you think he hasn’t prioritized the position? Miami went hard (pause) for David Stone, even thought we had him until Oklahoma snuck in at the last second. Mario flipped five star recruit Justin Scott from Ohio State.

I don’t think Mario has deemphasized any position. Miami’s reputation for poor defense has hurt recruiting on defense. Does any player look at Miami and say “that’s the place to get developed?”. Players make business decisions.

Mario needs to hit on players like Scott and Blount and Wiley and Lowe and OJ and others, and even more hope the new defensive coordinator and staff are the real deal.

And it certainly doesn’t help being in the ACC.
