Toney ain’t gone be getting many breaks
He will if we bring in Barkate. Toney should be more productive with fewer targets/snaps when the team around him is more talented. The WR room just had a massive injection of B12 speed. We hit our ceiling multiple times with CJ and Marion. It wasn't pretty. The new kids will raise that ceiling a bunch due to our size and speed outside. Barkate and Vaughn keep the floor at a similar level as 2025.

He is clear to enter the portal. He is not cleared to enroll at another school, yet.
There will be a hearing on Feb 2 to address the 2nd issue and other items of his contract with Duke.
tbh, there is nothing that can prevent him from enrolling. id love to see him enroll here and challenge what law/precedent prevents him from freely withdrawing as a student (since NIL isnt pay for play technically or an employee contract) and enrolling at miami as a student.

i get that he cant sign another NIL deal until the hearing since he signed a licensing deal with duke.

Jacobs and Vaughn are good pickups but pretty sure if Moore, Wingo, etc. outplay them in practice they will play over them on Saturdays. If Miami gets Barkate he and Toney are really the only 2 WRs that would need to probably need to forget how to play football to lose their spots.

Ppl post on a message board but don’t wanna read the board lol
I'll make it easy for folks (lol Gemini gives @AtlAtty major props):

Based on the forum thread and the latest news regarding Darian Mensah's transfer status, here is a summary of the situation:

The Core Status

  • Officially in the Portal: As of today (January 22), Darian Mensah has officially entered the transfer portal. This was the first major hurdle cleared, as Duke initially attempted to block him from even entering.
  • Miami is the Favorite: Miami is widely considered the heavy favorite to land him, with forum discussions treating it as a near-certainty pending the legal resolution.

The Legal "Case" (The Hold-Up)

  • The Lawsuit: Duke has filed a lawsuit claiming Mensah breached his NIL contract, which reportedly runs through 2026.
  • Current Restrictions (The TRO): A judge issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) that allows Mensah to be in the portal but prohibits him from enrolling at another school or signing a new NIL deal for the time being.
  • Next Key Date: The next court hearing is scheduled for February 2. This hearing will determine if the injunction continues or if Mensah is free to sign and enroll at Miami (or elsewhere).

Thread Context & Rumors

  • The "Package Deal": A major topic of discussion on the last few pages of the thread is the entry of Duke wide receiver Cooper Barkate into the transfer portal.
    • Barkate was Mensah's top target at Duke (over 1,100 yards last season).
    • Forum members are speculating that the two could come to Miami as a "package deal," which has heightened excitement.
  • Clarification on "Cleared": There is some confusion among users about what "cleared" means. The consensus from more informed posters (like "AtlAtty") is clarifying the distinction: he is clear to talk to schools (via the portal) but not legally clear to join one yet.

Guys are absolutely guaranteed starting spots. You think cantwell ain’t starting next year?
How do you know that? Are you on the coaching staff? If Cantwell can’t perform I guarantee you he won’t be starting. Do you think Toney was guaranteed a starting spot in high school? Everybody penciled in Charles Brantley as a top rotation player/starter when we brought him in, how’d that work out ?

Is it they don’t rotate or never had the depth to rotate guys? In this offense blocking is a a must and alot of guys aren’t willing. All the guys that were depth are gone because they wasn’t good enough. 10, 3 and 15 prove they’ll play you if they trust you , no matter your age.
Most people don’t realize how much the staff loves Josh Moore. Also he was battling injury since usf

My goodness you people are missing the point.

And no arguments from me, especially as a complete WR…Barkate is a **** of a player
I understood your point, but there’s a difference in “overkill” and upgrading. Yes we could hope Moore and Trader develop and the two transfers fill in voids where the young kids lack. And then there’s the school of thought where you always get the best player you can and worry about everything else after. We lack playmakers on offense and I could argue this kid is the most proven one of the entire portal season, outside of Cam Coleman. And it really really helps that he and Mensah are already in sync.
