You can do that, and you can change personnel. It was plainly obvious from watching their games over the course of the season and thinking about how they'd specifically attack us. See point #2 below. Prior to the game.

The issue was compounded when they went 6 OL inline. It allowed them to get 2-4 yards a pop while forcing our DBs to play back due to the lack of help.

I know this is a terrible answer, but those plays are almost unguardable. Could we have pressed harder to throw off timing? Could we have put a different kid on him? Yeah. But that was far and away my #1 concern going into the game from a defensive standpoint. I was fully confident we could limit every single aspect of their offense (and we did), except when they really needed a play, literally all season, they beat the brakes off people with the back shoulder throws. It worked all season, against everyone. It's their bread and butter, honestly. I knew before the snap on both those plays that it'd be the call. We really needed OJ in those situations, the only way to stop that is to play incredibly violently at the catch point and hope you don't get a PI. Pretty much the way OJ played it in the endzone on their first scoring drive, actually, but it's a lot easier when you're at the 10 and you don't have to worry about him running by you.

It's just a total mismatch on O'Conner. And they exploited it, and it won them a natty. I really don't know how you plan to stop it other than challenging your DB to get a rebound without fouling.

At the end of the day, injuries at DB cost us bigly. The way to combat those plays from them is to have a big, physical DB who can match Becker's strength. 24 ain't that. 2, 6, and 29 are. Well...in the 2nd half, only 1 of those kids was on the field.
And even with all that if Beck doesn't throw the ball to the other team on that last play who knows what would have happened. Defense played more than well enough to win.

Also to add, earlier in the year Dawson said with our defense he just needed to get to 28. We all killed him for it but how ironic that 28 turned out to be the exact number we needed for a ship.

Jojo, Josh Moore, upshaw all a possibility, what’s the point of them staying? What message does that send adding 3 transfer receivers. These kids want to play

we lose Keelan, CJ, Ray Ray, Ny Carr, Chance Robinson, Tony Johnson - thats 7 WR…we can add 3 in the portal. Fear not my friend. Competition is good for the soul. Dont like competition? Go to FIU.

In OJ's absence, I ask Lucas to follow him around. That's my move. Especially after the first one. I don't think we do that, but in desperate times...

Is it tampering if we reach out to a player’s agent? What if they reach out to us first?

Asking because I genuinely don’t know the answers.

The rules of tampering are VERY clear:

If you are Miami and you get anyone in the portal, it is illegal, thuggish, and you are classless cheaters.

If you are any other school you can talk to whoever you want and nobody says a word.

Dmoney and Pete both said on the pod that the plan was to always add 3 portal WRs. This room is loaded so if you don't want to compete, see you later!

Anything new in here

Transfer Portal Intel
Duke QB Darian Mensah
After nearly five days of waiting, Darian Mensah was officially entered into the transfer portal on Wednesday night. The star quarterback is now allowed to enroll at a new institution before his preliminary injunction hearing on Feb. 2, but the temporary order does not bar him from taking official visits, which he is expected to take.
Duke WR Cooper Barkate
Since news broke last week that Mensah was expected to enter the transfer portal, Cooper Barkate’s name has been mentioned as one that could follow his quarterback. He officially hit the portal on Wednesday. Miami is the school to watch at this point, where a reunion with Mensah is likely. Sources still expect several premier programs to make a run at landing Barkate.
Cal LB Luke Ferrelli
The ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year officially re-entered the transfer portal on Thursday morning after committing to Clemson earlier this month. The current expectation is he will land at Ole Miss, and I’ve logged a prediction in favor of the Rebels.
Colorado OL Jordan Seaton
Official visits are done, but Jordan Seaton has taken in-home visits from Oregon and LSU in recent days. Miami looms as another top contender in this transfer recruitment. The feeling among sources on Tuesday was that the Tigers held the momentum, but that has wavered. Multiple schools believe a decision needs to come within the next 24 to 48 hours for him to enroll before spring practice.
Missouri EDGE Damon Wilson
The top pass rusher remaining in the transfer portal is back home in Venice, Florida, following his visit to Miami. The Hurricanes appear to be the favorite, but Wilson’s camp is still in communication with other schools. A decision is expected to come in the next 48 to 72 hours.
Ole Miss WR Cayden Lee
Trinidad Chambliss’ top wide receiver officially hit the portal on Wednesday night. Missouri is viewed as the team to beat if he ultimately decides to leave Ole Miss. Lee entered his name into the portal as a precaution if Chambliss does not play in 2026 due to his eligibility battle.
Miami RB Girard Pringle
Sources have told On3 that Alabama is an early school to keep tabs on in this recruitment. A return to Miami has not officially been ruled out yet, either.
San Jose State QB Walker Eget
Duke is viewed as a school to watch for the transfer quarterback. He’s thrown for 5,563 career yards and 30 touchdowns.

so can he not enroll and participate in practice until summer?

sorry for dumb question

if that's the case, what's stopping miami from hiring him as a part time assistant coach and then him participating all spring until he can start as a student in summer?
