Adarius Hayes Charged in Deadly Crash

Dang…I was hoping the rumors weren’t true and that he wasn’t at fault. Young man’s life forever altered by a terrible decision that I’m 100% sure he now regrets.

I hope his teammates learn from his choosing to learn the “hard way” so they do not have to learn the hard way too

Henry Ruggs was going faster and under the influence, but still a woman and a dog dead and he's serving 3 to 10 years as a result of a botched blood test that would give him the DUI and whatever mandatory minimums the state of Nevada has...so the 3-10 is plea with a cushy gig while he serves his time.

Adarius supposedly not under the influence, but killed three people going double the speed limit...as laid out here could be 15 years.
I think 15yrs probably would be unlikely, but we’ll see. Some factors Id assume his lawyer would use in his defense are the kids reportedly weren’t buckled in. But who knows if that was misreported or not. If they are saying this was an 80mph side impact they could have still been ejected while buckled. But like his defense would say two deaths were caused by them not wearing seatbelts. And of course someone making a left turn doesn’t have right of way. That Plus the driver of the opposite vehicle being almost 80, and they’ll probably argue that that person made a big mistake regardless the speed Hayes was traveling. And of course I assume this is Hayes’ first felony (but apparently not first speeding ticket), and he wasn’t under the influence or anything. Didn’t try to flea…

But ultimately he’s an adult operating a deadly weapon and showed basically zero care for how he’d harm others, and his actions actually were very predictable they’d harm others….When you think about it why would that be any different than like going to a gun range and being careless with a gun that resulted in killing 3 people?

I don’t think he’ll get more than like 6 years in a plea deal. But he probably SHOULD get like minimum 25 years in an actual trial…

it was determined they were making a lawful turn. read the article.

hes charged with multiple felonies too

Awful stuff, but why weren't those kids buckled in, may have saved their lives.
nowhere is it reported that the kids weren't buckled in. just CIS rumors like everyone was saying they made an illegal left turn. they were making a lawful turn. Hayes sped UP before the crash. going 80 mph would eject nearly anyone.

I am a trucker in South Florida. The area between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami is an absolute mad house. Don't get me wrong, I like a spririted ride like anyone else, but not when other people are at risk.

Going 30+ over in a 40mph zone in a congested area is a recipe for disaster. And now, peoples lives have ended and irrevocably changed forever.

:(

woof.

thanks for the detailed response.

Football career is assuredly over.

Honestly I worry more about bad drivers than I do gun or other violent crimes. We've even got names like the "Milwaukee Slide" which is when someone uses the right hand bike / parking / bus lanes as illegal passing lane often to avoid the line and drive through a red light.

On top of that, after the deaths of innocent drivers killed by fleeing cars / pursuing police cars the PD here instituted a rule that they could not pursue fleeing vehicles. So for several years, people learned the solution for reckless driving was more reckless driving (fleeing the police).

That rule was removed once the Kia boys became famous for their carjacking / theft videos on social media and the public demanded it be stopped. But its been slow to unwind years of lax enforcement. The only thing that seems to be working is "traffic calming roadways" where the road deliberately forces you to drive slow.

At this point, would his best option be to go for a plea deal? He’ll be locked up for a long time, but it could also give the victims’ family some closure without the pain of a trial.
It will almost assuredly be a plea in the end. I honestly don’t know what kind of defense Hayes and his team could raise.
The car will provide proof of his speed and witnesses will provide evidence of the reckless manner of driving in addition to the speed.

In Georgia each count of vehicular homicide carries a potential sentence of 15 years.

That is not a determination by a jury or even judge. Don't forget that part of it. This is a charge. He isn't proven guilty yet. He can make his defense
