The only reason you give the AD job to someone like Hernandez is that he's the only one who would let Highsmith run the show with the football operations.

I always thought that someone like Jurich/Rad/Rhoades/White etc. would want to be the MAN for every sport.

Maybe I'm reaching here because I don't think we are at this stage yet, but what about Mario saying "Yeah, I'm coming but I want Zo as AD for football" and the only way to have that is to hire an underwhelming name as AD like Hernandez? If they want Mario and Mario only, you know the answer.

Just for the record: I would have hired a competent AD and let him decide the next HC, Mario or not.

They needed someone bigger than Alonzo and Mario.

I didn't expect them to get so literal.

Jurich is 65 and has been out of it since 2017 I believe. Why would he want to come here?

Name a 65 year old who DOESN'T want to move to Florida. :)

But being real... great school, great brand, great place to live, great challenge, great conference, newfound financial support from the community, and you can win here. One last job for him to cement his legacy and blow away any tarnish from his last stop.

And money. When you get to a certain age you go from "I have more than I will ever need" to wanting to take care of your grandchildren's grandchildren. Create generations of security.

The leak angle is a fun one, but if you leak big names and end up with a small name, the fan base who is irate going from erect to limp is not going to fix the problem that they created and are allegedly trying to fix.

You got small and big names alike.

Excited to chat with you about this. Agreed defined roles is the key even though this is obviously all still hypothetical, still fun to debate.

My question is what are the defined roles? From my perspective, Zo seems to be looking for a hands on role and to operate as a sort of GM of the football program. Yes there are tons of associate AD roles where the individual provides support for specific programs. However, these are mostly hands off type roles and purely administrative.

So if in fact Zo takes on a GM type of role and has decision making power then I find it hard to believe someone like Lane or Mario would come here for that. Coaches in demand have the leverage, not the other way around. They pick their staff, their philosophy, and are fully in charge. So let’s say LSU also offers Lane…you think he’s going to choose us over them knowing he will need to have approval from his GM to do certain things?
Mario tried to get Zoe to be his football ops guy at Oregon

It’s physically Impossible to get any less “sexier” than Tony Hernandez.....

There is some serious mental retardation in this fanbase. I keep re-reading Cribby’s post and at no point was it ever even hinted that Hernandez was the name in question, yet, it was a rogue post by someone else who set off this mass suicide of hysteria. Seriously, y’all need to find something better to do with your lives
