Another twist to possible playoffs and NY6 bowl games:
Keeping in mind that the ACC, SEC and probably the Big12 are looking at 10 conference games plus 1 ooc game:
Nicole Auerbach, of The Athletic on Packer & Durham this morning:
Another odd aspect of the 2020 season is that teams across college football could play different numbers of games depending on what their conferences decide, and Auerbach said standardizing schedules is not a priority.
“I do not think that everyone’s gonna try to play the same amount of games — honestly because they don’t have to,” Auerbach said. “Everyone’s anticipating that there would be canceling, forfeits, rearranging things around. So I think everyone’s just looking at a number that makes the most sense for them. When people look at the conference-only decision like the Big Ten and the Pac-12 did already, it’s about that flexibility. … It becomes easier from a flexibility standpoint to move things around, push things back, pause in the middle, make up things on the back end."
“I don’t think the overall number matters all that much," Auerbach added. "I’ve spoken to the College Football Playoff executive director, Bill Hancock, and he said it’s very possible that teams that the selection committee would be analyzing will have varying amounts of games they would’ve played. What you have to do, maybe there’s a minimum threshold of games you have to play to be considered for a New Year’s Six bowl or a playoff spot.”
