I am not worried about tight end at all. Mueller looks like an awesome late eval, portal is an option as you mentioned and Briggs and Gilbert seem like good options too.Fair enough
Portal is still open for us as well unless of course we make the title game because the NCAA is so awesome at common sense scheduling.
- Three Miami commits participated in the camp, and it was my first chance to see them move around in person. TE/DE DeMarcus DeRoche (Gibbons) is at least 6'4, 205 and looks like the consummate athlete. He runs with a smooth gait, catches the ball with his hands, and throws better spirals than some of the QBs in attendance. DeRoche didn't take many reps during the one-on-ones, but did catch a skinny post for a TD off a deflection. Good evaluation by staffer Frank Tucker. Miami will need to fend off blue-blood suitors.
Tight end is not Dawson’s thing
Got a name? First I'm hearing…We are recruiting?High.
I
Just don't tell me this was the plan all along. We aren't going to get 100% of the kids we want, so then we move down the list and pursue the next guy. We all know how it works.
Daydreaming is fun though.
Im not a mope ****sucka
A month ago we wouldn’t touch the kid and were moving on cus of an injury and now poof he’s good after we didn’t want to spend on a guy. Just an interesting development
They couldnt dig further on his injury a month ago if they liked him so much preinjury?
I swear I am not trying to hate, but this doesn't make sense.
Cartwright was a major target, then he showed up to his visit in the cast and then months later we decided to do some digging and found out the ankle is fine?
If he was a major target and a priority, wouldn't we have done all the digging right away instead of writing him off to waste time with Karhoff?
It feels like he was further down the board and now we are circling back, which is fine, that is how it works. But there were other tight ends higher on the board, clearly.
Its a legit question BABABOOEY"I'm not a mope."

You and I have different definitions of moping, brother"I'm not a mope."

Very good gymnastics, you sheep. Again, for weeks it was he’s injured we moved on. If it was all a long game, kudosIs it, though?
Do you think that asking questions about an injury months ago will yield the same answers that questions asked today would?
Perhaps you don't understand medicine and physiology.
And you act as if it would be wrong to have concerns about taking two injured guys at the same position (given that Miami wants to play DeRoche at TE and he is coming off an injury too). I'm glad that Miami is doing its due diligence, while you look down your nose acting like this is only happening because Miami didn't want to "spend" on Karhoff.
Miami is spending. And spending plenty. If VaTech wants to blow its limited budget on a tight end, that is their prerogative.
All of your "legit questions" were just snide shade thrown as to why we are increasing our efforts for a kid that we have always liked and targeted. Yes, sometimes our priorities and pursuits will wax and wane. That's the recruiting game.
Seems like the plan is all coming together. Keep another recruit warm, force a rival to overpay, and then circle back to the kid you wanted all along once you are confident that he will be as good as he was before the injury. How is this a bad thing?

It wasn’t a poster it was D$ saying it. Maybe it was a long game, just seemed weird if we really liked the kid, why wouldnt they find out the severity of the injury when they found out about it, not when they were circling back. He forsure is a mouthpeace for the progrum in some capacity. Im not saying its a bad thing its just a fact. Maybe it was all smoke n mirrors..Nah, this is very simple.
When have you ever known Mario to move on, permanently?
And if you believed posters who told you that we "moved on", then that's on you.
Due diligence.

That would truly be chess not checkers & I do see your pointIt's all good. I love DMoney, I'd simply say that if Stringer Cristobell wants to put the word out on the streets, the word goes out.
We just have to balance out all of our sources of information and knowledge. The kid showed up for his visit in a cast. That requires some additional time and digging to make a final call.
The fact that we "allowed" VaTech to outbid us for Karhoff should be factored into the analysis as well.

lol I thought that at first too.. but most big, physical TEs ALWAYS look like they are playing with little Timmy’s out there. They are 6’4”- 6’6 and **** near 230-250 pounds! They better look like dads playing against little kids lol.Good looking athlete but it looked like he was playing against middle school guys half the time. Certainly looked like there is enough talent and size there to project as a College TE.
“Mid” is not the same as “high upside” imoMid, raw, high upside, whatever term you’d like to use. They clearly want to up the talent and production at the position and it’s hard to say Deroche will do that. He’s more wait and see. They are hunting for a guy that can contribute early and have yet to get him.
