A Rotten Roster full of (Mostly Florida) Divas?

I’m not saying anything yesterday can or should be excused but I was at the ECU game Butch lost in 96, there was no feeling of he’s building something.

It was bad coaching, no ability to react to what the other team was doing, stubbornness and not a whole lot different from what we saw last night.
And BTW, ECU’s campus flooded the week of the game killing students and they didn’t get to practice much and had to play the game at NC St stadium.

There is always revisionist history with Butch.

Before I start, nothing I say should serve as an excuse or apology as to why we got absolutely whipped by a a G5 team yesterday; in fact, my title is journalism 101 - flashy, controversial title that hooks in the reader lol.

However, ignore the garbage coaching on both sides of the ball + the head man up top for a second. This is not the first time we’ve come out flat or allegedly unprepared. We saw it against Southern Miss already this season, we saw it countless times in 2021, and we’ve seen it god knows how many times the past 15-20 years. A lot of us realized that this wasn’t a quick fix; and while no one expected this garbage, the portal was supposed to be a band aid for a roster with a lot of holes.

Now with that being said, how many times have we heard about clique-y behavior on this roster in recent years? It was allegedly a huge Manny problem, and it was mentioned endlessly in a multitude of threads last night. You could see poor body languages on TV, guys bickering after the game (from people at the stadium), pointing of the fingers in interviews and postgame comments, etc. Motivation from a HC can only go so far…so is it possible these front-runners don’t give af?

I personally am starting to think this roster is rotten. It’s full of guys that think playing for the U is cool and it’s a clout thing that on paper they care for, but they don’t put in the work to be great. Now that Mario is demanding in practice and the expectations are so much higher, a large portion of them crumble up under pressure and lay down to die… ready to fire out excuses about being unprepared, or crowd size, etc. It’s soft really.

80% of these kids don’t have that dog in them as much as they talk about it or like to think they do. I do believe Mario is recruiting the right guys and it’ll slowly show, but when the insiders said there will be a major roster turnover after 2022…god****, I can count 20+ kids I hope seek playing opportunity elsewhere.

We need dogs that want to play for the U. I don’t care where they come from. Darrel Jackson was one guy in particular I saw jumping up and down firing dudes up after Garcia’s first TD drive.

People calling for Mario’s head after 4 games have 0 football IQ, it’s the same porsters that want attention. He has a LENGTHY uphill battle with both the players and the fanbase after yesterday, and will have to change his offensive philosophy to make this work…but I do believe his culture and accountability is a good thing for this program.

We need a plethora of rotten garbage to leave this program, and it’s not hard to see after last night.

Whenever you prefaced your statement with the 'garbage coaching' statement you lost credibility.

Because the rest of the comment had a lot to do with the opinion that our roster if full of divas..and no I am not going to deep dive into that

Long story short....

Yes we have some ******* divas on our roster. But the coaching is absolutely not an issue. Not even close

Nothing you said is incorrect but how can a man who won two PAC 12 have us look this unprepared, uninspired, and downright buffoonish. This is one of the most well paid staffs in America. No excuse for what we saw. This is simply not a good team. Can Mario facilitate enough immediate adjustments that at least have us showing improvement over the course of the year ? That’s his task now along with keeping a top recruiting class together cuz we definitely have a disease, JAGitis has infected this team and the cancer must be removed.
Not sure what you're getting at. And I'm not a psychology major
But if you think Mario isn't a good coach...go **** yourself...that's all.

I see improvements already...what do you see?

What specific improvements have you seen so far ? I think we're better at tackling and stopping the run than last year but that's a pretty low bar. We're a team in total disarray based on what I saw yesterday. Mario has plenty of time to right the ship but the honeymoon is over.

No feeling of Building something??....What tf were you Building down 20 schollies (at that time) and barely being to hold practices??...
Take 20 schollies from Mario and holler back.

I was talking to my brother about this during/after the game. Yeah a lot falls on the coaches but at some point, deep down as an individual, you have to give a **** yourself. None of the team looks motivated at all and it's been several coaching regimes now. It's always been brushed off as being our ****** coaches but I have a hard time believing Mario isn't a good motivator. Motivation and recruiting are his strengths IMO and if he's not good at those then we have a long road ahead.

yesterday, we had a bunch of guys who simply weren't in the mood to play football.

Maybe Mario actually sucks...idk. He's been successful at every stop as a coach...if he sucks here? idk. Maybe its just us.

But, this early into the tenure...what am I most likely to point the finger at...

a coaching staff thats filled with guys that have won national championships and conference championships in different spots all over the country...

or a roster with guys that took Ls to FIU, Duke, and LaTech...68 to UNC...???

idk man, I'm open to ideas here. maybe the Coker Country Club has been an insidious institutional rot passed on from recruiting class to recruiting class like a bad genetic defect. **** if I know.

This is really the last chance to see it imo. We can sign a very large recruiting class (although Mario just made life extremely difficult with this loss Saturday) and use the portal like Sparty did for immediate issues. We need multiple WRs, DBs, DTs, LBs, and maybe another edge rusher and RB.

If Mario is about accountability and is ready to walk that walk, I expect 15+ players to portal out from this roster. I won’t name names right now, but 15 is the floor.
TVD for sure gone

It is the job of the CEO to change the culture or rid the program of the problems. This resides on Mario, not the players. Stop blaming the players. We have had used car sales men in the CEO spot for too long, and a severe lack of player development. We have had underdrafted players as a result and now it is tough to get the top talent to believe in the program not due to the product on the field, but those preparing them to win and for the next level. 20 years of failure coming through our BoD and AD. As much as I love UM it would be tough to send a kid there knowing they were an NFL prospect. Mario needs to make some changes soon or he is just the next sales manager at Al Golden Motors.
Does smell a lot like 2011

I hear u but saban couldn’t win with these players dude they are just buns. All the best players in the state haven’t came in in 20 years we have a select few and it’s not clearly enough and most of the guys that we need to contribute are transfers. The guys that were already here stink

Playing devils advocate here what coach in America could win with this team? I really don’t believe any. Think they would look at it and say I would rather kick myself in the balls repeatedly

There’s quite a few...

Our money men/admin would just never hire them, because they’re not “Miami Bros”.

The prerequisites to even be considered for this job pretty much eliminates about 75-80% of most of the good candidates who would do well here, which is why we’ve been stuck in the same lame loop for the last 20+ years.

Manny Diaz and some of our previous coaches have been recruiting players to the U with the 'vibe' of the city and the party culture. Posting pictures of the beaches on social media.

We have been self selecting for kids who don't want to grind. The SEC schools promote championships, elite competition, and working hard. We promote the beach and the vibe as an alternative. The kids who want to grind and don't care about extracurriculars end up at uga and Bama

I think we’ll get our answer vs. UNC. If we come out flat again, I’m blaming the players more than the coaches.

Last night I counted 15-20 players that should either leave the program or are on thin ice. We’ll see how they respond.

On another note, this is Gattis’ last chance to show he’s not a stubborn f^ck and will use the entire field + more creative red zone looks.

Lane Kiffin and Mark Stoops would win 9 games with this roster and god awful schedule.

I don’t think people realize how bad the coastal is.

UVA sucks. UNC has the worst defense I’ve seen in a minute, a competent offense should score 40+. Look at what App St and ND did lol, f^cking FAMU too. Pitt is average at best. VT and GT are dumpster fires. Duke is improved but still Duke.

We really should have won the Coastal this season. Not saying it can’t be done but man, if we play like we did on Saturday, we’re losing 3/4th of our remaining games.

Agreed. The Coastal is even worse than normal. It's worse than some G5 conferences/divisions.

LOL the "honeymoon" is over after 4 games.
