Why do we think that?

We lost Rivers and Carpenter from last year's line and only replaced with Brockermeyer. Rivers was one of the most underappreciated players here in recent history.

Is the Center position considered such an upgrade that we can backfill for Rivers and be better?

Honest question because is seems like everyone is just assuming development of players already on the roster will actually make us better.
I bet a lot of people in the building would argue that Bell will be better than Rivers. McCoy is continuing to impress. Samson, Rodriquez and Kinsler will all get snaps this season

Better than Mauigoa? I joke about Bell being the #1 overall pick and All-American that some make him out to be, but he did improve a lot by the end of last season and looked pretty good. I tend to believe he's going to have a great season, but I'm not sold he's on Mauigoa's level. I would love to be proved wrong. I'm rooting for him.
I gotta see how Bell handles a speed rush he used to be so stiff vs it

Brockermeyer is better than carpenter and well I love rivers, as much as any other cane fan, Bell is better than him.

There was a post earlier in this thread that said the QB depth chart may have a shakeup soon. Your post would align with that. Exciting if Luke can make the necessary progress this season to be QB1 next year.
He is lights out better than Emery and if Luke keeps progressing like this, he will be number two. Now he might not be number two as far as the roster goes because they would want to get him his red shirt if possible, but he will be number two.

I've been saying since spring Luke has passed Emory up. 🤷‍♂️
If he hasn't, then we have potential serious QB issues looming. We all love Emory, but I think he's shown he's not the guy.
I know there's a lot of hype with Coleman, but he's not here yet, so I don't take him into consideration.

He has been quite poor. Running with the 4’s. Not ready to backup this year if the season started tomorrow, but he’s a freshman and he’s not supposed to be ready.

For 2025, if Beck goes down we are screwed. Good thing this OL is solid, particularly C to the right side. Left side hit or miss, more hitting than missing but less consistency and where most of the pressure / disruption from opposing defenses will come from. McCoy has the inside track to start over Rodriguez at G.

I think for scrimmage #1 it was good, and a lot of promising improvements (particularly defense) but we definitely have to pump the breaks on certain players…

Most importantly, no new injuries.

We just snatched the top 2 QBs from the portal in back to back years and people still forget it exists.

I get what you’re saying, but we can’t continue to rely on that. It’s an untenable situation.
Why? As long as the portal rules are what they are, I don't see why we can't keep getting top QBs indefinitely for a 1 or 2 year stop. And if Beck has the type of season we're anticipating, there will be plenty of options again next season. In fact another 1 year stopgap while Nickel and Coleman develop is a perfect scenario.
