We were almost perfect on offense and still barely won. You have to have some kind of complementary football

Where's the team that is great on both sides of the ball? Everyone has a flaw. I'm not happy about this defense right now, but I'm convinced this fanbase doesn't watch other games outside of Miami. Indiana can't score, Ohio State can't score and doesn't have their QB. Notre Dame is beat up on defense, even worse than we are. At this point, we just need the D to manufacture a couple of stops per game, if not more, this O will do most of the heavy lifting. We will have games like Pitt, where the D is good enough early and the O pulls away. We will also have games like tonight and against FSU, where mediocre QBs have great nights because any FBS QB can make these easy quick game throws. Heatherman has to realize that you can't hide this secondary. Either they get torched in man, or it's death by a thousand cuts with zone. Miami stands a better chance of winning a track meet, than these grindfests.

This defense was way overrated in the offseason

But even then we have enough talent to not be this bad

We can't cover either. The times we do win at the LOS the QB has a wide open outlet to get the ball to.

The teams that have success against our defense create mismatches in the passing game against our LBs. Until we can solve that, it’s rinse and repeat. I don’t know what the answer is.

Not much you can do vs quick passes and screens.

Secondary has to put hands on people. This scheme is hurting these players.

Heatherman is praying we simply stop the run or cause a loss with a blitz and then offenses self implode. Not one offense has self imploded lol

I think you are in the moment here and I’m surprised by this take. You don’t think 2 really good corners make a difference in pass defense?

You might be surprised by what a shutdown corner can accomplish. Imagine a lockdown corner taking away half of the field while giving the pass rush significantly more time.
