8-0 but not championship level defense

Heatherman believes in disrupting the QB and playing soft zone.

If we don’t blitz we can’t get pressure and out Lb’s and Nickel’s can only play down hill so they pick apart the soft zones.

If we do blitz — normally from the edge. They are finding the running backs in the vacated zone before our slow Lb’s can get there.

It’s comical how easy it is to pick us a part.

Well, FSU and UNC arguably outplayed us and almost beat us. So I’d say it’s more likely than not that we don’t go undefeated in the playoffs.
Every teams has close games and even some have something we do not have. A loss.

That argument does not hold any water at all.

Get to the playoffs and anything can happen. But yeah after that performance its looking very unlikely. Which sucks because I think we have the best QB and overall player in the country.
I'm dying laughing at our fanbase. Miami has a 90% chance to make the CFP, and almost a 30% chance to be the top seed in the playoff. That's even if Miami doesn't beat ND. If Miami merely holds serve at home, that is an 11-1 team rolling into Charlotte, likely against a team Miami has beaten before(Wake), who is solid, but hardly unbeatable.

We had to be perfect on offense to win. And I’ll never complain about 8-0. But it’s November now and this defense is falling apart. There is no player coming back that will make us better. It’s not just scheme. We don’t tackle. We don’t play with eye discipline. We lack physicality. This defense won’t take us to the championship against better teams. Beat ND!
To be fair, nobody is really championship caliber. Georgia lost to Auburn, who is like 4-4 right now and is UNC caliber. #2 Ohio State lost tonight, Notre Dame lost to BYU, BYU lost to UCF who got beat by Baylor 41-9 last night. Indiana has a loss and needed a 60-yard FG to go to OT with Minnesota. Texas has two losses, Tennessee has two losses, Bama has two losses. Utah is undefeated but has played nobody. Right now, there are at least 10 teams who could win the natty.

Sure, but the biggest difference between last year and this year is the lack of a pass rush imo. Edwards was comfortable back there after the first drive. If we don’t blitz, we don’t get to the QB. And then there’s the fact that we’re getting out-coached on a regular basis. But we’re undefeated, so YOLO
Mixed with the injuries in the secondary and it is a recipe for disaster. Hopefully, they get healthy and get it fixed schematically as well.

We are literally bump-and run adverse…

Yes QB was getting it out fast but you can’t let him just carve you up on quick passes either…

You gotta jam, reroute and get the WR’s off schedule and we did absolutely none of that tonight…

Or all season for that matter…

I thought, sans a rash of injuries to starters, a competent defense was supposed to IMPROVE not IMPLODE as the season progresses. In the absence of such injuries, I certainly did not envision a scenario where this defense could possibly revert back to 2024 levels of incompetence. It’s absolutely bewildering.
They have guys in the secondary playing out of position because of injuries. It should not be this bad though.

You’re gonna find out that’s not

It’s been done already…

During the 2010 Cam Newton championship season at Auburn, they had the #7th ranked offense and the 51st ranked defense.

This Miami team has the #1 offense and the 21st ranked defense. Our scoring defense is currently ranked 11th and Auburn 2010 won a championship with the 53rd ranked scoring defense.

And only one team has a Heisman quality QB, a stacked RB room and the best All-Around Football player in the country.

They will not be denied.

It is a philosophical problem with scheme and personnel: the problem is Hetherman.
