Yes and no. Clemson had that "don't commit until you are ready and then, when you commit you can't visit" philosophy for a few years. That served them well and they really leveraged it once they started to win at a national level. Then they very publicly broke that rule last year, so credibility was gone. But they are still winning big, so recruiting is different for them.I just love how people have magical timelines to fall into place. Clemson used to have 5 to 7 commitments through like October than would finish with a ton of commitments. They still take that kind of philosophy. It just doesn’t seem that way because they’ve entered a different tier now.
It seems we are adopting their prior approach, and we can't adopt their "recruiting while winning big approach", so I see this entire cycle as a critical experiment. Manny got tired of getting used, so he appears to have drawn a line. Maybe that works, maybe not. We're gonna see.
The posters panicking and calling this a failure are premature. The posters relying on the hope of all kinds of behind the scenes silents and successes probably have no information. This is Manny's big gamble. He thinks he's got recruiters and has built some recruiting relationships. He hopes last year's class, in particular, carries real weight. He's pushing most of the chips in, right now.
