4 million for a HC

Patterson is currently at $3M. Dantonio at $3.3 with Michigan state income tax. $4M with no state tax, in an easy division with Florida talent is still a great raise and opportunity for either of these guys if they ever want to win a NC.

I think 4M is more than enough. For comparison sake:

College: 7 guys make above 4.5M: Saban, Harbaugh, Meyer, Stoops, Fisher, Strong, Sumlin. The group between 4 and 4.5 are: Franklin (PSU), Miles, Freeze (Ole Miss), Briles, Richt, Malzhan, Ferentz (Iowa), Spurrier and Mullen (MSU). McElwain, Bielema and Patterson are just under 4M. This includes bonuses.
NFL: Pagano is making 4.5M coaching the Colts, Jay Gruden 5M coaching the Redskins. NFL average was 4.9M.

So it just makes sense to start at 3-4M and pay up once they get to a major bowl or BCS playoff. Paying more without results would be foolish unless it's a guy like Nick Saban ... or Chip Kellly.

Now my Chip-boner is inverted.
This.

Can we get Mullen for that much?

I'm under the assumption we are getting Butch, Schiano or Mario

Miss State would probably match 4mil easily.

Doesn't matter. If salary is equal, Mullen would take um in a heartbeat.

And lol at 6-7m.

I actually think there is A LOT of truth to this statement right here. He would jump to get out of that division where he has taken and done all he can with his teams. He won't ever win a Natty there and i think he knows it.

This is my only question about Dan Mullen.....Do we want his offense? I for one don't, but that is just me.

Why start over, rebuild and all that comes with Miami for the same salary? What would entice you to leave? Being in South Florida recruiting, being in an easier conference probably wouldn't be enough.

Hope this is true. Definitely put UM in the top 20 when it comes to HC salaries. The other concern I have is the rest of the staff. Think it needs to be around $5M...

We can get a top notch coRch for 4 mil...Butch, Schiano, Kiffin, Cristobal, Chud...**** yeah!

Those numbers are not correct. Patterson has a new deal and is earning we'll in excess of $4M. D'Antonio with all the extras made $5.6M in 2014 because they gave him a one time bonus. $4M does not put you in the top 25 for 2016/17. It's a dumb number to put out there.

They will never say what their ceiling price will be. Why would they? They're having an open negotiation with the market. If they say they are willing to pay 4 million, then how on earth will they ever be able to get someone to take less than 4 million. The number is starting at 4 million. If that's not the case, then a ****load of people are grossly incompetent.

Are you guys expecting Miami to suddenly go from paying 2.5 million or so to paying 5.5-6 million to get Chip Kelly and the likes? Considering they want to build a winning coaching staff and have to pay very well for assistants, I find it hard to believe they are willing to pay more than 4.5 million for the head coach. That is 2 million increase from Golden's salary.

I think they will make the offer loaded with incentives to make it appealing but to start out with 5-6 million is IMO unrealistic. That's one of the reasons I have been skeptical of the Chip to Miami talk.

Patterson, Gundy and Mullins are maxed out where they are. To lure them with what they make now. Bonus and yearly pay increments will have to be the tool.

200k yearly increments of the length of contract. 500k for winning the conference along with 750k for bringing in a title. Adding in facilities upgrades and constant support to improve the brand.

Those 3 guys will never have access to the talent we can grab at their current gigs. They will never be able to compete yearly for titles either. You have to think they want to be mentioned among the greatest to coach.

Not only is our new coach going to be an upgrade, but I read in another post, they are going to make a much stronger commitment to the football program so we can get back to being elite...
We can hope right?
You read a report from a Tony Robbins seminar. These guys are gassing up the fans and trying to spread this message of "we're going to spend whatever it takes and do whatever it takes" in order to get the heat off them.

They're holding Tony Robbins seminars and inviting dorks and giving them nebulous information to pass along to the less fortunate fans through social media. It's a smart play by UM. Make it seem like they went after guys like Chip but just couldn't get it done and wound up with some schlub.

Watch how they disseminate the "we were inches from hiring _____, but there was a major red flag at the last minute" line of **** after they hire a schlub. They'll claim some candidate was a drunk or an insufferable egomaniac or some other lame ****. Watch for it.

Some of us realized that a long time ago, which is why it's so funny watching people talk about the possibility of hiring Chip Kelly. Remember, I said it first.

Patterson is an odd coach. Multiple good offers, but it would seem he just likes where he is. Period. I really like the guy - but so does everyone else it seems, and he's STILL not biting.

Gundy and Mullins? No idea what their situation is.

Good luck to whichever team wants to pay Herman $4mm a year. He is a nice story, but at that level I want someone with multiple winning seasons under his belt

some of those guys right around $4mil will never sniff a national championship at their current schools/conferences..... where as for $4mil here, they can easily compete for NC constantly.. depends on how they look at things....

a friend of mine was at a meeting with the search committee, Blake James and other boosters. don't know if mirabalcane was actually there but a meeting did happen

Can you confirm what MirabalCane said about the meeting in his thread? Your friend ought told you about the lunch there.
