4-3 cover 2

"4-3 vs 3-4 is just a difference in alignment; 1-gap vs 2-gap is a difference in philosophy."

Saw that in a coaching manual and think it's important to remember that nothing magically improves by having that 4th guy bend over and put his hand on the ground. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a 3-4, and more and more and more teams use it now to counteract the spread. They key is what type of 3-4 you use, if you use it.

Harlan Barnett or Mike Tressel might want to stop being co-coordinators ...

Michigan State claims to run the "old Miami" defense ...

It's not just a claim. It is a too-the-tee rip off. Narduzzi actually admits it.

MSU scheme is literally the exact same thing we ran here in the early 90s. Exact same thing Tubbs ran at Auburn in 2004.

there is a difference in assignments and personnel used to play either system... You don't need to play 3-4 to counteract spread, it's not a new offense, it's been around forever. Problem is finding players to play in 3-4, you need big guys that can cover at LB position and even bigger guys up front at Tackle

Of course I'm not a coach BUT for defense, Coach Richt. please find us another Jerome
Brown, Russell Maryland, Cortez Kennedy, Warren Sapp. Make us all happy Canes !

Richt just said on 560 that he likes the old Miami defenses 4-3 2 shell...

We back?

Welcome back Randy Shannon

Would be fine with me. Was a nasty DC when we had a real head coach and good strength coach.

Keeps it simple and lets his guys play fast.

Rix and Bowden used to joke that studying game film for Miami was tough to do because they ran the same **** on defense every play and never gave you any other pre-snap looks. They just beat you 1 on 1.

Yep. UH used to run the spread better than anyone in college football back in day with Klingler.. and we destroyed them. Why? Pressured the QB.

If you can pressure a QB with 4 man fronts you are going to be nearly impossible to score on. That was 00-05 for us. And of course 80's/90's.

Team was built by Butch and Moffitt - don't get it twisted. That's all I meant.

Guess I should've said, "he's a nasty DC when a real coach has developed the talent."

This whatever scheme 3-4 or 4-3 it must be 1 gap attacking.

4-3 with Quarters coverage behind it.

This! This is the version of the "Miami D" that Narduzzi brought in vogue and that they continue to play. The underlying theory is simplicity and the ability to play fast and make quick decisions. I will try to find the link I saw before in which Narduzzi broke his defense down.

I literally got chills when I heard this. Finally, after too many years, somebody who gets it. To top it off, he also said something along the lines of "we're going to come at you and see if you can whip us". That sounds more like the Miami Hurricanes that I know and love. This was the favorite thing I heard from coach Richt today.

HE SAID THAT?
ARE YOU SURE?

Yup I heard him said he needs too see if we have beast to run it

Yea he mentioned not knowing whether or not we had the personnel for it but he would look and figure everything out..

Also mentioned he got tape from every recruit and the last 2 years of all of our games he has to go over.
