3 Concerns

Agreed. I don't understand why that's the staple, the go-to for Dawson. It wasn't working that well and hasn't worked well against any teams the past season either.

Maybe he just does it to set up the ones like we saw with Fletcher in key situations. Still, more variety would be a welcome addition.
Didn’t need variety in this one

They couldn’t stop the basics

Valid. I also think Billy is about the ****tiest game day coach you can find

What I think is key is man just like Cam was saying…we didn’t force any issues. This team, especially the offense, seems like it has a lot more in the tank. I think we basically beat them down with a couple of pages from our playbook
I definitely got the sense the offense was just feeling their way through and still managed 41 points and 500+ yards. Still left a lot of points on the field.

There were 3 main concerns we had as fans and for now I think all were alleviated (for now)

1. Run defense. DT was a concern and we had that one bad play but every time Johnson got the ball he was SWARMED. The score helped but they couldn’t run it on us.

2. Secondary. Not much that needs said. We will see when we play more arm talented QBs but our discipline was extremely impressive to me. Florida tried to get us to bite on a lot of misdirection and eye candy stuff early and we didn’t fall for it. Brown gave up a decent gain but that was just a perfect throw. Jackson and Guidry were busy this summer and it shows.

3. Left guard. A great QB can mask an OL but we didn’t need him to. Rodriguez and McCoy (from what I saw without rewatching) were good. OL is gonna be a strength yet again.

Looking forward to this rewatch to get into the finer details of things. I have a difficult time with the interior of the lines other than splash type plays but this should be fun
It was good to see Mario not run the clock out at the end of the first half and keep the foot on the pedal and score a TD to take away any momentum UF got after their RB's long TD.

I am hoping this is going to be a special year and I think it has the potential to be.

Maybe miami can be the team to stop GEORGIA'S long win streak in the playoff.

I think Ward has the potential to win the Heisman also.

It's great to be a Miami Hurricane!

My minor concern is, Florida really isn't that good and they actually may not win 4 games this year. That said, looking at the schedule will Miami not be the most talented team on the field in all the games?
Louisville? I guess perhaps FSU?
I don't see how the sky is not the limit with the team minus a major implosion.
Only Florida state has equal/comparable talent left on the schedule and they have DJU at QB.

Depth. I don't think many are that concerned about the talent but more so the depth. That and they wish we had a huge 6' 5" 330lbs space eater but that's not absolutely necessary.
They used mostly 4 guys. Barrow, Clark, moten, Campbell. Then messidor got reps inside and Bain will too. As the season goes on I’m sure more guys will get reps like Scott, Horton, and cook

Not worried about run D at all but Wes + Harris took awful angles on Montrell TD. The secondary is still TBD but safeties played sound and disciplined. As long as Cam & o line stay healthy this team is going far.
I think the secondary will be fine as long as we can keep rushing 4. Kiko only blitzed 4 times. DL just gotta stay healthy.

The concern that I had coming out of that game was Mario burning timeouts in the first half. But it didn't matter.
I also didn't think our WRs were uncovering early on.
But I'm nitpicking

With all due respect bro, UF is likely the most talented team we will face regular season. It could be this year's version of the CANES are "THAT GOOD."
Just saying...

Main two concerns I have coming out of yesterday’s game is special teams and secondary depth. The depth won’t change but the experience for the young guys will. Special teams just seemed off yesterday. Andy is one of the better kickers in the country so he should be fine. Our punter out kicked his coverage some and I believe the one kick return they had was a pretty solid return. I think it’ll be fine but really just cherry picking minor stuff.
I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned this. Special teams looked shaky.

I would say special teams is my only real concern.

1. Borregales -missed very makeable FG and line drived two PAT's. On kick off, he did a good job kicking well into the end zone for no return. The one he didn't get into the endzone...see # 2

2. KO coverage - Florida only given opportunity to return one kick, but he went for 35 yards. Thought it was going to be more. I'm nervous every time the opponents gets chance to return.

3. KO return - I don't think we had any. KO return was pretty good last year with Brashard Smith, but he is gone. Can't judge this yet since we haven't had an opportunity.

4. Punt coverage - Joyce is good, but doesn't have the hangtime. Outkicks the coverage and our punt coverage team is below average. We punted twice. While no huge returns, we did allow 17 yds on the 1st return and 11 yds on the 2nd. Got to get better

5. Punt return - Florida punted 5 times. We only returned one of them for 7 yds. Not great. At least we didn't muff a punt of fumble.

Overall, special teams was the weak link yesterday. C-

I forgot about Cook, is he hurt?
No I saw him on the sidelines and looked to be fine. Just not in the rotation yet. I'm guessing with Bain out the next week or 2 Messidor slides back to end and Cook gets some burn, which he would anyway vs FAMU and Ball St.

We were very very cautious on punt returns. We didn't even have a return set up. It was fair catches all the way. Or at least it looked that way. I think Mario had flashbacks of George in the TAMU game last year.

Unimaginable that we haven't had a threat in the punt return game since Benjamin with Shannon or maybe Duke with Golden. Am I missing someone during the Richt and Diaz years?

Guess I wasn't as worried about DB, especially Safety, as some. To me it was addition by subtraction as JW never fulfilled his potential (and was a 15-yard penalty waiting to happen) and Kam was too busy going for the INT and big splash play. Great to see what fundamentally sound players can do!

True. Florida maybe a bad team. But, if so, we treated them like a bad team. We didn’t play down to the competition and didn’t “play with our food”. Canes stood on business and took care of a lesser opponent. Only should have of the day was putting up a 50 spot

Number 2 is the one that shocked me. I said all week they’d try to come out throwing and steal a quick easy td. They tried is multiple times on pump and go’s or eye manipulation. Every time we passed the test. I haven’t seen that in so long. Everyone stayed home minus the bust on the long run by Johnson. That was more getting out of lanes.
The run was entirely gap responsibility. Jaden had outside contain. He was the only one on that play who botched his assignment. He stays home it's another minimal gain. I understand what he was thinking. He's just gotta understand gap integrity as a safety means he's the last line of defense against Big plays. Sometimes no benefit in gambling.

It's not relevant what Florida is or isn't. This was all about seeing preparation & executing our game plan. As long as we continue to approach the game like that, zero concerns & not many teams on our schedule or not will we not be competitive with.

Maybe even a loss. The formation was bad for our alignment but it still should’ve been minimal at worse if he routes him back inside rather than losing gap integrity.
