The Hurricanes have made a serious splash to kickstart their next two recruiting cycles, landing the dynamic Carrollton duo of OL Kweli Fielder and QB CJ Cypher.



A 6-foot-2, 190- pound signal caller with advanced instincts at the position, Cypher checks all the boxes for a star quarterback at the next level.

The freshman phenom led his side to the state title game with a 14-1 record in an ultra-competitive Georgia field ---- and racked up 26 touchdowns to four interceptions last season, but especially shined in person this summer.

Cypher visited the Hurricanes three times this year including a Legends camp performance where he threw alongside Miami's 2028 QB commit Knox Annis, and impressed with his ability.

He demonstrates plus arm-strength at this stage as well as the ability to layer his passes when needed, and is regarded as the top quarterback in the 2029 class.

"The way [Miami] develops quarterbacks, competes at the highest level and brings in the best players in the country stood out to me," Cypher said.

With buzz around a possibility of a reclass, Cypher told CanesInSight that the timeline of that decision is still up in the air.

And while Cypher's commitment marks the first for UM's 2029 class, his announcement was joined by his teammate and cousin Fielder who've played together their whole lives.



A 6-foot-4, 310-pounder who also shined in drills at Legends Camp with his strength, Fielder is one of the top offensive lineman in the 2028 class.

He can shine at multiple positions on the line, where he physically imposes his will at the point of attack and gets upfield.

Coach Mirabal in particular spent plenty of time working with him at camp this summer, helping him adjust his leverage which will continue to develop at a high level.

"Miami felt like home since going down twice in June," Fielder said. "Miami gives me the best opportunity to develop as a player and a person."

Fielder becomes Miami's second commit in the 2028 class.

Trevor played at Cartersville. Juju and CJ both went/go to Carrollton. Joey King is the common dominator. That man can develop QBs

OT because he is athletic. He isn’t stiff at all. He isn’t CiCi but he has all the physical traits to be a 1st round pick.

 

Sounds like the life. He’s not Miami QB. Without his friend, he is an ETSU or Citadel level prospect. We are likely paying him $0 NIL. Is what it is

While Cypher is too young to have a ranking, he has already established himself as one of the best underclassman signal-callers nationally.

“CJ Cypher is already off and running as one of the best quarterbacks in the country regardless of class,” Wiltfong said. “He’s going to be a lightning rod recruit. His peers are going to know him in the class above him, the class with him and the class behind him. Recruiting is a game of inches, and to have a quarterback like CJ Cypher in the fold who spans three recruiting classes, that’s big. He’s built for all of this.

 

I’m still shocked till this very day that Mario changed the way everyone even looks at the program. Even myself bruh, it’s almost like not real to me. Like this dude brought us up the mountain and is keeping us at the top. I thought this would never happen again.

To get the a HC to win a year at UM was always possible but it would be like a fluke season. But to do what he’s doing is best HC in the country type ****. People do not understand how difficult this was and he has done it. It’s incredible still to me and almost unbelievable

More like the cost of quality Qb transfers is rising at a astronomical rate.. if Mario’s shifting to locking in the very best Qb prospects, he’s also freeing up capital for other high value whales and roster retention.
