2026 Roster Discussion

We have prob 5 guys who a few years ago I’d say kiss them goodbye.

But now mlb teams are trying to get more ready made players with college numbers. After those first 2-3 rounds high school kids are more of a crapshoot. Heck how many first rounders don’t pan out. If I were a major league team I’d almost be college only. 17-18yr old on there own, still a kid and more money then they’d ever seen. Unless you have a babysitter with them.

So I still think we get almost all these kids. Prob lose 1-2 who just don’t want to go to school…and they will regret it. Plus this kids “been up to 97” for perfect game. He will get to campus and all of the sudden be a lot more 89-92. PG juices everything. Every travel team has a kid with a JT Realmuto pop time.

That’s why I’m still so high on DeRias since he was 92-94 in high school and then 95-96 here at times. But we will waste a summer with him in the Cape. Slow his development and wear him down more.

Who said he couldn't handle the tragedy? No one said it was excuse. The point is when someone says they hate JD after all he has done for the program and what happened to his son they are scumbags.
The point is actually that you conflate valid criticism of him for “hate”. I don’t think anyone here truly hates the man. They may have strong feelings about his ability as our HC, but I doubt there’s actual hate.

And you were the one that brought his dead son into it with your response to the sarcastic Mario post you misread. And you did it using it as a shield to white knight for some perceived slight against JD *when the post wasn’t even critical of JD*. You were looking for an excuse to get offended on JD’s behalf. Be better.

Looking back to last years transfer portal rankings for 64Analytics

Max Galvin was a **** of an eval

Todd Hudson was a massive disappointment

That is one guy that I havent met...so I can only go off what we see on TV...but I have to believe his own guys arent super thrilled about playing for him. Big assumption...yes. But I bet the guys on the bench really hate him.
A few years ago I pleaded with my old man to ask a young, portaling Florida pitcher on the Cape how he really felt about Sully if he got the chance to do it an appropriate time.

Later said he never got an opportunity and even if he did, he didn’t know the kid enough to put him on the spot.

Respected that of course but man I wanted the juice.

Big time!!! Not only did we replace Will Smith but we probably upgraded.
Likely a set-up/bridge 7-8th inning arm. Good pickup with very similar stuff to Smith. TBD if he has the same bulldog in him.

Right handed side of the pen would have looked great if we could have kept Cleveland.

That cutter has potential to be an absolute wipeout pitch. His spin rate would prob put him in the top 10% in the mlb.

Esp if he starts bumping 93-96+ with the fb.

Apparently baseball reference mixed his page up with an infielder so it comes off like he’s only pitched a year. I’ll dig for the real scouting report.

What are the thoughts on next years catcher? Do we think the staff is content with Nolan Johnson, Tavares, or Puig? Or do we go all in for a transfer?

So I'm guessing we still need a catcher, 1-2 starting arms, 4-5 BP arms, and maybe another OF? Am I missing something?
Catcher is priority #1a. I thought we would have signed one by now .
Two high level starting Pitchers #1b
One is a necessity that can be a front line weekend starter..
Some more quality arms to fill in bullpen roles. At least 2-3.
Remember that Robert will not be available next season. He will take up one of the 34 roster spots.
I think we are good at outfield...
Some of the newcomers will push for playing time in the outfield and DH role.
I think the incoming class is very talented. Expect to see one or two freshmen to be in the lineup by mid season.
