If we didn’t get lucky with Cam. Our current situation is drastically different. We would have been a .500 or worse team without Cam and that defense. We likely wouldn’t have gotten Beck or anybody notable coming off that season. This portal plan was going to eventually backfire.

I would keep an eye on Mateer....radio silence on him. I haven't seen any annoucnment that he is returning to OU or draft bound.

I was just browsing an OU board on 247 and their fans dont even want him lol...they want to bring in someone new.

I guess where I'm at is I don't think this year's portal QB search was any different from the past 2 years. We got Cam and Beck then. This year we got bupkiss. I can't be mad at Coach for not prematurely quitting a high risk strategy that had worked out perfectly for him 2 years running.

Agree but I think we can all agree that the high risk strategy of the last 2 years was playing with fire and not the ideal process?

It’s been discussed here before and that’s why I said that we may end up with a desirable result but the process and plan sucks.

Going to the NFL well is not an ideal plan which goes to my arrogance point.

I understand the swinging for the fence approach. It was arrogant before and it became even more arrogant because we got into the playoffs.

I’d go and steal Amari Odom from Syracuse. I’d take Braden Atkinson from Oregon St.

I already said Ty Pennington from North Arizona. Nick Minicucci from Delaware. Owen McCown. Caden Veltkamp from FAU, Brad Jackson from Texas St. JC French…

Noah Fifita may be one of Biggest names who is still gettable who we can probably easily afford buyout and raise for and Arizona won’t compete with us.. I mean I’d take a big swing at Chambliss and hope Ole Miss is fully moved on to Deuce Knight

Everyone chill the **** out. Remember Dorseys stats? Build the right team and the QB doesnt need to be Cam Ward.

Mario’s not hitting up all these players trying to make in roads is what I’m saying. When it’s time for that they will get involved. The finding QBs who are interested is not falling on Mario or Dawson’s shoulders. It wouldn’t if we won 1 game this year. That’s not their job.

I also think had we been boots on the ground day 1, we’d be in this situation. Every QB went to the school they were immediately linked to. Soresby, Mestemaker, and Hoover all committed ridiculously earlier. The one we were legitimately linked to visited. We lost. You could maybe say Raiola, but again he wasn’t our top priority. Leavitt clearly was and something changed.

The issue isn’t this year or the last two weeks. This is culmination of three years of not getting a successor ready if you knew EW wasn’t going to be it. Should’ve taken a portal QB either last year or with Ward to develop. Especially last season. I’m not going to crucify Mario for focusing on this CFP run over the portal. We might not ever get back here.
