2022 2022 Recruiting

It’s gonna suck to watch these guys torch us in FSU uniforms.

Depends on which coaching staff is in place. Honestly, given the talent in the state of Florida alone in the next two years, fixing Miami is easier than most people realize.
If Coach L leaves and Miami only has 4 scholarship players on the roster. That gives the next coaching staff a great opportunity to upgrade the talent and turnover the roster on their image quickly.

True. But 1. Unless L suddenly decides to retire, he’s not leaving 2. IF we get a new coach (a highly unlikely if), they’ll be thrust into a bad situation with in state recruits. They’ll be playing “catch up” because we’ve neglected to recruit snd build relationships with so many of these kids. It would likely take at least a couple of years to make that ground up.

Hypothetically speaking, let's say Coach L mutually agrees to part ways with Miami.
Pay Coach L and his coaching staff the remaining money on their contracts.
Let's say none of the seniors come back and both of the 2021 signers decommit to attend other schools.
This is no big deal to a new head coach who is a great recruiter. He would prefer those available scholarships to build the team in his image.

1. Let's say Wong, Beverly, Walker and Timberlake stay at Miami because the new coach wants to build with them for next season.

2. If hired in April, the new head coach has plenty of time to catch up with the recruits in the 2022 recruiting class. Especially if the NCAA has live recruiting periods. All the new coach would need to do is call Team Breakdown, NightRydas Elite, Game Elite and E1T1 and tell their 17u coaches he wants to build his roster with kids from Florida.

3. In order to have scholarships available for kids in the 2022 and 2023 recruiting class, this is how he needs to divide up the 9 available scholarships he has for next season.
4 grad transfers with one year of eligibility
2 transfer juniors with two years of eligibility
1 transfer sophomore with three years of eligibility
2 kids from HS for the 2021 recruiting class but one kid needs to be from Florida to let everyone know you are serious about having kids from Florida on the Miami roster.

It is that simple. Execution is all that is needed.

Meyer: One 2022 prospect to keep an eye on is Ausar Thompson, a 6-6 shooting guard from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Pine Crest School. Thompson is currently ranked No. 38 in the 247Sports Composite and No. 44 by 247Sports. I wouldn’t be surprised if he were to end up a five-star.

Thompson can catch and shoot and produce points off the dribble. He has playmaking capability and has coveted defensive versatility.

His recruitment is a tough read at this point. The recruitment of Thompson is coupled with his highly talented twin brother Amen Thompson, who is a four-star 6-6 combo guard. The Florida schools are in pursuit while schools such as Alabama, Arizona and Kansas.

I haven't seen this kid in a while (so take it with a grain of salt) but not sure he's better than Gak and we all know how that's turned out. Truth be told Nnamoko isn't even the best 2022 on his HS team right now. Riviera has a pretty good PG in that same class, who some say may be the best 2022 prospect in the 305.

We haven’t offered either one. But they were both good enough for UF and FSU offers. This is really getting old.

This is why, when you consider all of the factors, it is probably best to mutually agree to part ways, let all of the seniors leave, expect the 2021 recruiting class to decommit and give the new coaching staff a roster of 4 players with 9 available scholarships so they can get ahead of the curve on the makeover.

#2 is easier said then done. The new coach would be playing "catch up" in many cases because L and his staff of buffoons have neglected to recruit nearly all of the talented 2022 Florida players. Recruiting is built on relationships, and currently we are failing tremendously on that front. The new coach would be inheriting a recruiting mess and would have face a big uphill battle.

It just makes no sense to me why we are neglecting all of the local talent. I would really really like someone in the media to ask L what his current recruiting philosophy is

I only disagree because all it takes is one or two. Remember, the football program had the same problem until Howard Schnellenberger got Melvin Bratton and Alonso Highsmith to commit to Miami.
Then he formed the State of Miami and kids have been putting on for South Florida ever since.

Coach L is from New York. Most New Yorkers in his age group think the NE is better than the rest of the country. His recruiting says so.
I am not knocking his philosophy as it has worked to a point.
Unfortunately, like Giancarlo Stanton, he wants you to remember the home runs and forget about the strikeouts.
At this point in his tenure, he will not change.

That's true, but the 80's were a very different time than now, and the recruiting landscape has changed drastically.

It's totally foolish. This area is producing quite a bit of D1 basketball talent now. You see programs like FSU, UF, and UCF capitalizing on it.

I get the NE will always be L's calling card, but would he really rather recruit 3 stars from New Zealand than 3 and 4 stars from South Florida?
