2019 recruiting

A good article that makes a valid point about Miami.

  1. Miami's streak of NCAA tournament bids is likely to end at three, but a season-long suspension for Dewan Hernandez is the main culprit. Since the Canes have seven losses of six points or fewer in 2018-19, it's clear how one standout can make a difference.
Anthony could join Chris Lykes to give Miami a devastatingly quick and creative backcourt. They'd coexist because Lykes' range makes him an off-ball threat, and they'd be able to rotate minutes to ensure there's a dynamic point guard on the floor at all times.
One major disadvantage for Jim Larranaga and Co. is Anthony did not officially visit. Though he took an unofficial trip to the school in August 2018, that's as far as it goes.
Behind UNC, Miami and Oregon have been the most consistently competitive teams recently. The Canes are better positioned to succeed in 2019-20 but may have some catching up to do.

This could be the start of several coaches being fired and recruits could be reopening their recruitment soon. Let's see how this plays out.

I see 6'5 SG Haanif Cheatham (out of Ft. Lauderdale Pembroke Pines Charter) has entered the Transfer Portal. Will have immediate eligibility.

Left-hander has already transferred once (from Marquette to FGCU). Averaged 13.5 ppg at FGCU this year before suffering a shoulder injury. Previously started three years at Marquette (where he averaged around 10 ppg).

Wonder how that injury has healed and what interest we might have? Local kid and all, with a lot of D-1 experience in a very good league (Big East).

It would be a solid pickup but we really need to use our two transfer slots on big men. Obviously if we miss out on Beverley then by all means get Cheatham.

I agree. We need bigs. So far, not seeing many tall xsfer prospects with immediate eligibility. Hopefully, some JuCos or foreign players left.

Cheatham, coming out of HS, was a 4 star Combo Guard so there may be value in his versatility. Like to know more about his shoulder. Think it was not a minor thing.

I heard an interview with spike lee , he said Cole could be a top five pg ever from NY. That’s insane praise, just crazy.

Nah, we need wings in a bad way. Go get him.
I agree. The only bigs we have returning next year are:

Miller-totally useless
Gak-Probably will still be too light in the *** to have an impact
Waard-a "big" only because of his height. He definitely doesn't play like one
Walker-A true freshmen that'll need time to adjust to the college game

It doesn't seem like we're on any more high school bigs, so I guess we'll be playing the grad transfer market again for another big.

Nate Sestina, 6'9 big from Bucknell, now in the grad xsfer portal. Averaged roughly 16 and 9 for a good mid-major program. Can play inside and pop outside for the 3 ball. Syracuse among many interested teams so far.

We need to be on guys like this like white on rice.

UM reportedly has interest in high-scoring, super athletic wing (6'5) Rayjon Tucker who just averaged 20 ppg at Little Rock. Shot 41% on threes. He previously transferred from FGCU.

Some other schools after him: Arizona, Arizona State, St. John's, Utah, Ole Miss, Memphis, TCU, Nevada, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Auburn, UConn, Texas Tech, Maryland, West Virginia. Sounds like maybe he's pretty good!

Is he a grad transfer or regular transfer?

Tucker is a grad xsfer. Immediately eligible to play this Fall. Will def be one of the most sought-after grad xsfers in the country.

Zach Johnson and "freakish athlete" Tucker signed with FGCU out of HS. My question would be that they both -- as of today -- look like they easily could have been UM recruits back then (admittedly, hindsight). Better than some we signed, or picked up. Goes to show lower-rated HS players often turn out to be more valuable than higher-rated prospects.
