2018 will be a transitional year. But 2019 is a legit run for the NC.

I think if Miami had planned better for the DL losses, we could have been a playoff team in 2018 with a more accurate qb and better run game. As it stands, I think we are going to get destroyed up the middle next year on D. Silvera might be all universe some day, but true freshman DTs don't normally take over games. And if he or Willis go down, lord have mercy.

Wouldn't even need to beat Clemson in the ACC championship game next year. If Richt has managed the team better prior to the Pitt game, we could have been a playoff team this year. The big Thanksgiving grabass celebration the night before the game was nice guy Richt sabotaging himself. Players had no fire in the game. You think stone cold assassins like Saban would have done that?
how do you plan for the attrition we have? its crazy. borderline first round guys go back to clemson etc. but we can't hold on to 5th round draft picks.

Huh? WTF do goalposts have to do with facts? We're a 10-11 win team this year, not a 13-14 win team. No shame in that. 2019 will be the year we can win the title.

You have the perfect avatar. OP was using a metaphor to show how we keep lowering expectations.......and actually he may be a little too optimistic about 2019 thinking all that talent is gonna stay until then, especially at lb. Still I agree if our next QB lives up to expectations, we are a legit title contender.

Can you simultaneously believe that 2018 ain't no "transitional" year while also believing that 2019 is far from a rock solid no holes type of roster when you're dealing with absolute unproven entities at QB?

This is why you try to have a coaching staff that you can believe in. Now is when Rick & Company really should start earning their money. Overcome inexperience this year and prove your player evaluations (especially at QB) were spot on in the following year.

I don't even know what a "transitional year" is. I expect to win the Coastal again this year, and if we face Clemson again, then I hope to give them a game. I don't expect to beat a Clemson team that should be much better than it was this year.

Most of what happens this year will depend on the QB. Rick got a lot out of Rosier and got us a Coastal title with him. The next QB will have a lot more talent, and the surrounding cast is infinitely better and more experienced, so the offense should be greatly improved this year.

I'd guess that our defense is similarly mediocre/good in 2018. Much will depend on Willis staying healthy/eligible. I think he's the most important player on D in 2018.

It's the year during which you start taking estrogen but they haven't chopped off your junk yet. Also known as the year prior to one committing to UiF.

I wouldn’t call it a transitional year. **** I wouldn’t even call it a rebuild. We return the back 7 and one from the front 4. We replace our starting TE and two starters on the OL. We’re good. Anything less than 10-2 in the regular season is a disappointment. We have to win our bowl game this time around. We can’t afford to end the season on a two game losing streak. If we lose to Clemson we better beat whoever we play in the bowl game

Truth.

Someone pointed out a couple weeks ago that Miami's big selling point is that it is NFL U so probably shouldn't be surprised when kids declare early. The promise of a shot at NFL is why they decided to go to Miami, so leaving early to be a fifth round pick and having a chance at $ is better than spending another year playing football for free (even if it means upping draft stock). Might just be the mentality of the S FL athletes Miami was attracting (kind of had to be the case for any kid willing to play for Golden). I think Richt will get away from those types of players so shouldn't see as much early attrition going forward.

Honestly, it all depends on the QB play Miami gets. IMO any extended time with Rosier is wasted time. I want to see one of the young guys and see what happens( and yes, I realize they may not be great early on, too)

But really good QB play can make up for a lot of other short-comings. That's been proven many times before. But this Miami team again has a ton of NFL talent all over the field regardless of the narrative of some of our own fans

^^^^THIS!!!

There is more of a probability of us getting an NC in 2019 with an experienced leader. That's why I want us to move on and stop wasting time at QB. I'm hoping that one of the newbies TAKES/WINS the job to end any controversy so we can all know we're moving on with our best. Rosier coming off the bench in relief may actually serve us better as the new guy acclimates.

IF CMR makes that change early, actually 2018 has a very very favorable schedule with us having only two close games LSU and FSU so I can see us improving to 10+ wins.

BUT IF Rosier starts, IMO all bets are off ,and just like last year, almost every game may be a nail-biter again.

You realize OP that every player in your original depth chart is on the team right now, and you called it a playoff squad. Add in Richards, willis, and the rest of the seniors we have a championship team

It all comes down to the QB play. If we win the Coastal w Perry or someone not naned Rosier, theres no reasin why we cant beat Clenson in the ACCCG.

Doesnt look like our OL will be any better in '18. Is the OL going to be a lot better in '19? (Necessary for playoffs)

No evidence of a playoff caliber QB in '19. Might be a first year starter who couldnt beat out Rosier in '18. :O

Lots of question marks. Too many to assume we suddenly ball in '19.

Hopefully questions are answered next season and we have reason to hype '19.

I just keep laughing at how posters are moving Bethel back to SDE.

Why? Seems to make sense from my amateur perspective. If, big if, Silvera can be a serviceable backup at the 3tech spot, makes a lot of sense for Bethel to rotate with Demetrius, especially on traditional running downs. Bethel's flexibility might be key to mitigating our reduced d-line depth.

Because Bethel played last year at 285 and only got bigger. He'll likely be playing north of 290 next season.
