2018 Recruiting

Even with the injury, I’m not sure Brown stays. If he does, we can be very good next year. I think Wilson is gonna no to be very good, and probably start. Even if Bruce goes, I think we can a tournament team.

I was just thinking the same thing. If Brown stays we are a tournament team next year.

I still think we can go without him, but we're more than a tournament team with him. We're a VERY good team. As I said above, I think everyone is sleeping on Miles Wilson. 6-5, 190. Averaged 11.8 and 3.9 rebounds as a freshman at Mt. St. Mary's. Had his best games in the NCAAT, especially against Villanova, 22 points and 7 boards. If Amp can be consistent, DJ can shoot more consistently, Huell can be consistent, Gak can not be a project, Ezundu can play NC State every game, Lykes can play under control, the Kiwi Ginger can keep developing. We'll be solid. Add Brown, and we can be very good.

I don't know how accurate any of these sites are, but they all ran mock drafts in the past few days, and none now have Brown Jr. going 1st round:

NBADraft.net has Brown Jr. in the 2nd round (#35)
2018 NBA Mock Draft & Simulator | Tankathon has Brown Jr. in the 2nd round (#34)
https://www.fanragsports.com/2018-nba-mock-draft-february-edition/ does not have Brown Jr. in their mock 1st round.

Obviously, he won't be moving up in any of the mocks for the rest of this season. I think it would be flat out dumb for him to leave to be a likely 2nd round pick with no guaranteed money. Then again, this is Miami....

I don’t know why he would leave either. If someone mentions his age, I want to know the difference between a 21 YO and 22 YO in terms of the POV of an NBA GM and please provide data. Especially a player who is injured that wasn’t playing like a first round pick.

Honestly, I have no idea what to expect with Miles Wilson. I was excited to get him and I like what he "accomplished".

Assuming Brown comes back, I don't think he initially starts.

PG: Lykes
G: Brown
SG: DJ
SF: Amp
PF: Huell

Wilson put up good numbers as a freshman and also shot 3PTs at a quality % (36.2%).

I think Miles Wilson and Jack McClinton, AT THIS POINT, are comparable in terms of expectations. Both were All-Star caliber players in the same type league, and did well when facing better competition. If Wilson turns out half as good as Jack, we'll be OK. Personally, think he will get a lot closer than that!

Contained in your Points 1 & 2 are, of course, how we used to almost exclusively recruit every season. Ending up with horribly unbalanced classes BUT ... some very good teams.

Anything??? Seems like we’re gonna have to “start over” recruiting wise since this probe happened. Killed all the momentum and next season will most likely be ugly, after words we hope on Carey but even that’s doubtful. I love Canes basketball but Idk where they are going at all after this year

I feel the same way as you, especially your last sentence.

Two names to consider (Transfer Market):

1. Malik Moore (F) from USC Upstate [Junior]

PPG: 13.5, RPG: 6.1, APG: 2.4 and SPG: 1.3

He has to sit out a year but has 1 year left. Maybe to replace Amp after next season.

2. Mike Cunningham (G) from USC Upstate [Junior]

PPG: 13.7, RPG: 2.8 and APG: 3.0

Eligible immediately (1 Year to play 1). To replace JaQuan.

Cunningham played his high school ball in the DC area. He's definitely worth a look

Moore's 3pt shot tailed off this year, but the ability is there

I'd take a look at PG Khwan Fore out of Richmond if he does declare (decent chance).

Smart, quiet kid who averaged double digits the past two years under Chris Mooney.

More Names...

Aaron Calixte (G) from Maine (Sr)

PPG: 16.9, RPG: 3.1, APG: 3.2 and .386 from 3PT

He is eligible immediately but only has 1 year to play 1.

http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3147346/aaron-calixte

Wyatt Walker (C) from Samford (Jr)

PPG: 9.0 and RPG: 5.0

He is eligible immediately. He could easily help us with depth. This really gives us another option at C besides Izundu and Miller. In addition, who knows if Gak is ready?

This dude is actually from Jacksonville.

Some more names...

Parker Stewart Guard Pittsburgh (6'5) Freshman [Must sit out]

PPG: 9.1, RPG: 3.3 and 3P%: .386

I like this guy and he could really good after sitting out. He already hits the 3 at a really good %. He hit the most 3s as a freshman in Pitt history.

Jojo Anderson Guard Northern Arizona (6'3) Sophomore [Must sit out]

PPG: 11.1, APG: 2.2, RPG: 1.8 and 3P%: .325

This guy has to sit out and maybe he can improve his 3P% (to .350+).

Torry Johnson Guard Northern Arizona (6'3) Redshirt Junior [Immediately Eligible]

PPG: 11.5, RPG: 2.2, APG: 1.6, SPG: 1.1 and 3P%: .322

Not sure if this is the best guy for our offense, given the 3P%, but he could be good depth at guard.

Austin Nehls Guard Central Connecticut Blue Devils (6'3) Junior [Immediately Eligible]

PPG: 9.7, RPG 3.9, APG: 1.3 and 3P%: .344

This guy had a slightly down year shooting the 3 but he could be good depth at guard.

Nico Clareth, JR Guard, Sienna. Must sit out. Led the Saints in scoring this year (15.1 ppg). He's from Baltimore.
