2018 DE Daniel Carson

It was really nice," Carson told InsideTheU over the phone before he boarded a plane to head back to the Midwest. "Me and my mother had a really good time. We liked the palm trees. Overall it was a good visit."

With Carson the lone prospect on campus this weekend he got plenty of time around Mark Richt.

"He's pretty cool. He's got some funny stories. All the coaches do especially some of the older ones. It was fun just talking to him with my mom."

Carson was hosted by utility man DeeJay Dallas.

"The one thing that really stood out is how the coaches treated us and made me feel wanted. Same with the players. I also liked the beach."

Carson is listed as a defensive end, but Miami wants him to play some defensive tackle in college. He said that he's more than open to the role especially after watching some film with Kuligowski.

"He compared me to RJ McIntosh. He said that I would be moving around a lot because of how athletic I am and compared my athletic ability to his."

Mom also liked what she heard from the folks at UM.

"She said that she had a really good time. She got to meet the wives of all the coaches and that was nice.

While Carson isn't ready to name a set leader or anything like that he said that his time in Coral Gables did nothing but improve the Hurricanes chances of landing him.

"They are right there. Miami is a good program and I got no doubt that The U will be back."

D. Carson is a wanted prospect!! If Coach Kul can pull this kid, this would be a very solid pick up.. He would definitely be the replacement for RJ IF he decided to leave early..

Any time you hear "I like the palm trees" it's a wrap. Vets will tell you that's a guy not coming to UM.

I think we get him. Wiltfong commented in the thread and said we absolutely covet this kid so we’re going keep up the heat.

Was gonna say we could get him by winning him over or by default. The other schools pushing are Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio State, and Nebraska it looks like. The Texas class is loaded and getting pretty full and apparently they feel good about others on their board ahead of him. Same with Ohio State. I'd say the biggest competition for him is Oklahoma. He has a Nebraska official this weekend.. new staff in place idk what to expect there.

Between Miami, Oklahoma, and Nebraska.. we're the only school that plays defense and we're comparing him to a 2nd round player that was 2nd team all ACC and a coach that has produced so many draft picks.

The interview didn't sound like a guy ready to commit or a guy that has us in the lead.. like the Jarren Williams interview.. but we have a lot going for us.

EDIT: Texas actually doesn't have many targets according to 247 that are in front of him. Just Keondre Coburn at DT committed. They'll probably be in it to the end with us if we have a shot.
