2017-2018 Season

We haven't had luck with transfers lately. Maybe we should just recruit and sign another 4/5 star stud.

How does that help fill a need? We have plenty of young/inexperienced players. The following guys are/will be sophomores or younger (in no particular order):

1. Brown
2. Huell
3. Miller
4. Waardenburg
5. DJ
6. Gak
7. Lyles
8. Walker

I don't know how many 2017 4/5 star studs are available but we have 2 open scholarships and we should probably fill them with more experienced transfers to space things out better. Also, which of these studs would even consider us at this point.

As previously mentioned, Brown or Walker and/or both could be gone after this season. In addition, Newton is gone after this season. That is why a player like Weathers/Evans made so much sense. These guys were proven at this level and would learn the system as they sat out this season. We also have 3 open ships in 2018 and no one committed. Maybe we can get some 2018 studs at that point but at least 4 of the 8 above will be upperclassman at that point (if they're here).

[In General] We have 2 open ships. We should use them, at the very least, as fillers and depth (e.g. Grad Transfers).

---------------

Some names to consider, no idea if they would consider us at all:

Cameron Johnson: Pitt SG

Michael Bibby Jr: USF PG

James Daniel III: Howard PG (Eligible Now)

[We already know about Noah ****erson]

Does't the ACC have a 2 year sit out policy if a player transfers within the conference?

Does't the ACC have a 2 year sit out policy if a player transfers within the conference?

[I am certainly not an expert on this specific rule but here is what I found]

Section VI-2. Intra-Conference Transfer Rule.

A student-athlete who transfers directly to an ACC institution from another ACC institution and who was recruited by the institution from which they are transferring, for whom the athletics department interceded in the admissions process, or who received any athletically related financial aid during the academic year immediately prior to the transfer is required to complete one (1) academic year (two full semesters or three full quarters) of residency at the certifying ACC institution before being eligible to compete for or to receive athletically related financial aid from the certifying institution. Such an academic year of residency shall count as one of the student-athlete’s four (4) permissible seasons of competition permitted under NCAA legislation. During such a year of residency, the student-athlete is permitted to practice pursuant to NCAA eligibility rules regarding practice eligibility. A transfer student-athlete admitted after the twelfth day of class may not utilize that semester or quarter for the purpose of establishing residency. Waivers of this ACC rule may be considered by the ACC faculty representatives, acting as a committee of the whole, provided the student-athlete has qualified for an exception or waiver of the NCAA four-year college transfer rule. Further, the waiver request must
demonstrate objective evidence that proves the student-athlete’s extraordinary personal hardship merits a waiver of the normal application of the policy. (Revised: February 2006)

a. Exception. A student-athlete who receives a baccalaureate degree at one member institution and who has been admitted into a degree program at another member institution may transfer to another member institution without being subject to the intra-conference transfer rule. NCAA transfer regulations would
apply. (Revised: February 2006)

You only have to sit out 1 year, but you also lose a 2nd year of eligibilty.

This came up when Derryck Thornton was considering coming here from Duke after his frosh year. If he went to Miami, he'd only have 2 years of eligibility (after sitting out 1).

Instead e went to USC and he'll have 3 years left

Any news or updates on potential transfers? Who is legitimately interested in Miami and who do we have a shot of actually bringing on board?

On April 27th, Borzello said Quincy McKnight was interested in us.

According to Evan Daniels (yesterday), Miles Wilson is interested in us.

---------------------

I would take either as the guard who has to sit out.

Per Evan Daniels, Miles Wilson received a scholarship offer from Miami. He is visiting on June 1st.

'Preciate the info. For whatever reason it is extremely difficult to find this kind of information in regards to college basketball and baseball. You the real MVP. Well, you and Coach L.

Apparently this stuff is on twitter. I am personally not on twitter to verify it.

That team is talented but boy, they're young. Would love to add a grad transfer big to the mix.
