2014 class size limit = 29

Why do people even bother with this? For some reason I think Golden knows how many people he can sign and he'll manage the team accordingly.

Every year single year people make a big deal about this. Every single year we have the right numbers and don't oversign. It will all work out people relax.

Next time do your **** research before running your mouth!

You are an absolute idiot.

You referenced a 2012 article which is the 28 NLI rule I referenced. However, notice the current rules (limit if 25 NLIs) with an effective date of 8/1/12...

13.9.2.3 LimitationonNumberofNationalLetterofIntent/OfferofFinancialAidSignings—Bowl Subdivision Football. In bowl subdivision football, there shall be an annual limit of 25 on the number of prospective student-athletes who may sign a National Letter of Intent or an institutional offer of financial aid from December 1 through May 31. [D] (Adopted: 1/16/10 effective 8/1/10, Revised: 1/14/12 effective 8/1/12)

But there is a twist to the as an early enrollee doesn't count against the 25 NLIs per year limit. And none of this changes...

15.5.6.1 Bowl Subdivision Football. [FBS] There shall be an annual limit of 25 on the number of initial counters (per Bylaw 15.02.3.1) and an annual limit of 85 on the total number of counters (including initial counters) in football at each institution. (Revised: 1/10/91 effective 8/1/92, 12/15/06)

Which has been around since 1992. SMH

But at least your idiocy proved that I know exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm really not sure why people even worry about this, it's not like your in charge of running the team.

Al will sign as many as he wants and run off as many as he wants. Pretty simple.

There is a ton of WRONG in this thread.

First, don't confuse SIGN with ENROLL. Does anyone care how many can sign? It is the amount that can enroll that is is relevant.

Second, the post below as nothing to do with sanctions or the rule of 85. Just the maximum we can enroll per year (i.e. the amount of kids that can enroll between now and summer/fall).

How do we get the ability to enroll 29 (IMO)*:

2011

21 kids signed of which 3 never enrolled (Grooms, Kinnard & Gadbois). We added transfers Michael Williams (DB WF) Blake Ayles (TE USC) and Ryan Williams** (QB Memphis). [21-3+3=21]

Of these 21 kids above, 3 enrolled early (Ayles, Finnie and Pierre) so we had 18 apply to the 2011 class with 7 that could carry over.

+7 (Could Be Applied to 2011)

2012

33 kids signed of which 1 never enrolled (Jean-Louis). [33-1=32]

Of these 32 kids, 9 enrolled early (Crow, Hope, Dewey, Flowers, Gabois, Gunter, Kirby, Hoilett and Witt) but only 7 could be counted towards 2011.

7 of the 32 kids applied to 2011. 25 kids applied toward 2012, so we had 0 scholarship carry over.

0 (Could be applied to 2012)

2013

20 kids signed of which 3 never enrolled (Griffin, Lockley and Bond). We added transfers David Gilbert (DE Wisc), Pat O'Donnell (Cinn P), Naim Mustafaa*** (DE OSU) and Justin Renfrow (DT UVA). [20-3+4=21]

Of these 21 kids, 5 enrolled early (Sandland, Dobard, Knighton, Figueroa and Odogwu ) but none counted towards 2012. We had 21 apply to the 2013 class with a carryover of 4.

My guess is we are at +4. Which means (ignoring sanctions) we could bring in 29 kids, 4 could apply to the 2013 class (if they enrolled early).

+4 (Could be applied to 2013)
+25 (Normal 2014 Max)
29 Ships Available****

*This is not definitive, just my best guess*
**Also, there may be some weird rule that involves graduate transfer and the placement of the scholarships**
***Mustafaa is an interesting thing to watch, if we enroll 30 and Mustafaa is not playing next year (talk to Ariz) then my guess is this ship may not have counted***
****More kids can enroll early but only 4 can apply to 2013****

I am more curious why people respond with this post. It is a message board people will discuss this and at least it is not the scheme.

If the mods were to post something at the top it wouldn't be an issue.

alot of posters first time following recruiting this year

alot of posters first time following recruiting this year

Exactly... This is why some of these crootin' **** rookies need to step back & enjoy the process.

19 recruits in 2013 class
-3 recruits (Lockley, Griffin & Bond didn't qual)
-3 recruits who were EE's for 2012 class (Dobard, Knighton & Odogwu)
--------------
13 2013 recruits, so technically we can bring in 12 EE's in this class

100% WRONG

Paratard is always posting inaccurate info and couching it as fact.

A few will not sign.
A few will not make it in (prep)
A few might be asked to grey shirt if needed.

Burns, Carter, Coley, Dobard, Edwards, Elder, Figs, Gall, Grace, Knighton, Lewis III, AQM, Odogwu, Olsen, Tucker, Odonnell, Renfrow, Kamalu, Sandland, Gilbert=20

Figs, Odogwu, Sandland, Knighton, Dobard enrolled early

2012 had 32 recruits, it was a full 25 so the 5 2013 EE counted towards 2013, so it looks like 5 EE towards 2013 and a full 25 is 30 total scholarships available.

At a minimum I see 30 depending on how you count 5th year graduate transfers it could be 33. I see 30-33 unless I missed someone.

I think you are close except transfers count as initial counters when they enroll (see my post on page 3).

The name to watch is Mustafaa. If we enroll 30 and he is not on the team next season (ask Ariz), then I think his scholarship may never have counted.

stop w/ the numbers. it isn't hard and fast and as others noted, they always work out. the coaches know what they are doing and I guarantee you, if all 28 stuck and qualified, we are signing more than 1 more.
so stop w/ the hard and fast crap.

Why must we worry about class size? Do U think Golden doesn't know how to work the system?

Imagine if we were "full" and Fournette wanted in. U think Golden's gonna be like "Aw, sorry man, we full"?

This post is dumber than the concern about numbers. The concern about the concern.

we really don't ask people to grey shirt. unless they are a marginal recruit who we can slow play who desperately wants to wait and play at UM. any kid with other major options who is qualified isn't waiting.

I don't think people are worried, I think they are curious. I think everyone believes Al knows the rules about the system as well. He knows them better than anyone on the site.

it's dumb why? if all stuck and qualified, we have more than room for 1 more. the original post is nice and all, but, it won't play out that way. nobody knows for sure how many we can or will sign. it works out every year. why post hard and fast numbers? you can ball park it off of seniors leaving and the usual attrition, but, it's a guess. to say we have room for just one more is just dumb.

First of all, calm down.

Second, I wasn't referring to your numbers. I was referring to the stupid part about you telling people to "stop w/ the numbers."

Third, these numbers people post mean nothing. So who cares that they discuss them. They are the opposite of hard and fast, they are loose (I want to make a joke) and irrelevant.

I'm calm, just never understood the obsession over trying to figure out "the numbers". it's every year. it's the last thing I worry about. in the 23 years I've followed recruiting, we've never had a problem or oversigned, I don't think. the coaches and athletic dept know and it just works out. again, if you want to ball park seniors leaving and jrs who may leave and who may transfer and who might not qualify and about 3 other variables, free pawn can be my guest. seems dumb.
