Started an all-purpose recruiting thread until the recruiting board is up. I will post info as I get it. Hope you enjoy!

Danny Dillard 2-star
RB Venice, FL
Venice High School 6'1'' 210

On the hoof, Dilliard is a good looking prospect, built more like an outside linebacker than a running back prospect. Tall, with a tapered build and some bulk. He has been productive at the high school level with a one-cut-and-go upright running style. Hits the hole with urgency and at close to full speed. Looks to get downhill quickly and takes what his blockers give him. Not a cutback or pick and dart type runner. Shows some hip-tightness and lack of good fluidity and lateral agility. Most productive when he plants, gets North and runs behind his pads. Flashes better than adequate burst through the first level and builds solid downhill momentum given his size. Shows above average strength and good determination moving the pile and can certainly break consistent first contact at the high school level when smaller defensive backs come in high. Runs through a lot of arm-tackles but he has a narrow base and we do not see great power through his hips and lower-body at this time. Gives defenders a lot to tackle and durability could be an issues at the next level. His high running style and long body hinders his elusiveness in the open field as well. Balance is marginal. Struggles to make the last defender miss and lacks a second gear and great breakaway burst to separate. Builds more than adequate top-end speed. Overall, Dilliard is an intriguing prospect and certainly a guy with some measurables that will catch some recruiting attention but we question if he can develop into an every-down back at the next level. Does have experience catching the ball and has the size to develop into a blocker. May continue bulk up to play fullback but would really need to improve leverage and power base.

Taylor Gadbois NR
OT Dallas, GA
6'7'' 300

(Done for the Class of 2011) Gadbois flashes the aggressive run blocking attitude we look for when evaluating offensive tackles. Has the size for the offensive tackle position at the major level of competition however his overall athleticism will need to improve. Shows some lower body stiffness which affects his balance and agility when play in space; at times we see him lose a block and go to the ground. Playing out of a three point stance he comes off the ball hard but with an initial fit and pad level which must be lower on first contact; is capable of sustaining briefly due to his base and leg drive. Flashes the ability to cross block and seal up-field however this is where his balance and agility need to improve. If this guy is to consistently get a hat on active 1st and 2nd level defenders his agility and pad level must improve. His arm length should be an asset in pass protection however immediate quick set, bend and slide need to be addressed; works to extend his arms however all areas of hand use, especially initial punch and location need refinement. We like his tough, aggressive finishing effort. Gadbois is a late bloomer in need of time and perhaps a red shirt year. This prospect is a developmental size prospect that will need to improve his athleticism and playing strength.

Earl Moore 2-star
DT Tampa, FL
Hillsborough High School 6'1'' 280

Moore is an active, high energy player that is on the shorter side, but compensates with good quickness and a nice motor. He is not going to be a guy that is real flashy. He is consistent in his get off and production and has a bit of a mean streak. He can step and quickly work across a blocker's face to get penetration on a line stunt. He flashes the ability to use his hands, but needs to be more consistent as he tends to be more collision like and take on opponents with his shoulder. He is able to stay active and shed from blocks. He is as physical player at the point of attack. He has a good motor and hustles around. He does not have great speed when he has to cover a distance to the perimeter, but does give the effort to give support. He does show a little burst of speed in small areas to bring in ball carriers. He is a solid tackler wrap up tackler. He can get adequate pressure on the quarterback, but needs to keep developing moves and a plan. While he does some good things and you like his energy he tends to play very tall. Displays good brute strength to push smaller blockers around and hold his ground, but against bigger and better competition he could struggle if he does not bend more and play lower. Even when he tackles he tends to go high and because of his pad level he high he can struggle to bring ball carriers to the ground. He is also active with his hands and gets them on blockers, but needs to create more separation. Moore lacks that elite size and explosiveness you want in a one technique guy. Needs to bulk up and develop polish with his hands. We feel he is likely a non-BCS level player.

Also recruited by: Texas Tech, North Carolina...

David Thompson 2-star
QB Miami, FL
Westminster Christian School 6'1'' 195

Thompson is an undersized, well built pocket passer that shows some savvy and instincts within the pocket and also possesses a good arm and consistent mechanics. He shows good footwork, quick drops and set-up in the pocket and he shows the consistent ability to hit the 5th step, plant and get the ball out. Understands timing and where a ball has to be placed. Is equally adept at throwing the quick and deep passing game and has the arm strength to make some of the throws necessary at the next level. Shows good zip on short and intermediate throws and has enough power to drive the ball vertically if on time with his feet set. Is very accurate, throws a catchable ball with enough touch to lay the ball in over coverage on corner and fade routes. He is just good enough as an athlete to move around, buy some time and keep the play alive for one last look downfield. Not a scrambler or runner, but shows good presence of mind to avoid. He has a high, over-the-top delivery that is pretty quick, but can also be robotic. Thompson does a nice job working progressions and looking off intended targets. Is crafty at working the middle of the field down the seams with good anticipation. We don't feel Thompson possesses great tools or measurables, but does show some intangibles and competitveness. Is likely a non-BCS level prospect.

Committed to Miami's football program February 2011... 2010: Threw for 1,650 yards and nine touchdowns. Rushed for 933 yards and 13 more scores... Top baseball prospect as a shortstop. Committed to Miami's baseball program July 2010. Batted .486 with Dade County record and tied state record with 19 home runs as a sophomore...

Larry Hope 3-star
CB Hialeah, FL
American High School 5'10'' 160

Hope has just above average size and speed measurables but is a quick and savvy DB with some coveted intangibles at the position. A real competitor. Lacks ideal height and bulk but has some length to fill out which may be the key to his success at the next level. In coverage, he displays a low, balanced back pedal and is quick out of his breaks. Could be cleaner transitioning as he does show a bit of wasted motion. Shows good footwork and recovery quicks in man-to-man. Does flash some hip tightness changing direction and when opening to turn and run vertically. At his best when he can read the quarterback and time his break. Anticipates the pass well. Shows good leaping and ball skills in one-on-one coverage and competes like a receiver when it's in the air. Defends taller than his height. Displays good overall downfield awareness skills. Comes up quickly on underneath perimeter run and pass support and does a good job playing with a cushion. A torpedo type tackler in the open field who comes in low and limits yards after the catch. He is deceptively strong and can set the edge. The question is whether he will be able to do so at the major college level. May struggle to press, jam and reroute bigger college receivers and continue to win the contested jump-ball. Appears quicker than fast and feel he will be most effective with over the top help in coverage which will allow him to play more aggressively and instinctively. Overall, Hope shows flashes of major level, cover corner skill-set but feel he may be more productive in zone schemes at a higher level and with that his future success may dictated by physical development.

Herb Waters 3-star
ATH Homestead, FL
Homestead Senior High School 6'0'' 173

Waters is essentially a wide receiver playing as a dual-threat quarterback almost exclusively. We are not so sure he would not be able to compete as a corner given his skill set and physical tools. Is lean and wiry with adequate height. Frame should continue to fill out with needed bulk and strength. He possesses quality hips, fluidity and change-of-direction skills for the position. Has very good initial quickness and possess sound top-end speed. Creates a lot of big plays on his own when things break down and shows the suddenness to laterally avoid defenders. Is loose in the hips and changes direction well. He is flexible and as a result has a lot of wiggle to him in the open field. Can change speeds and, plant and stab and his short area quickness and burst is very good. As a QB, Waters is actually pretty productive as a left-handed passer which makes him all the more dangerous as a runner when defenses have to respect his arm. Obviously, Waters like many athletes is going to have to transition to receiver or corner, but his versatility and overall athleticism lead us to believe it will not be a huge learning curve. He is not an overly physical guy yet and while we feel he runs well, we are not convinced he is a burner with elite speed. Overall, Waters can run and make people miss and is a "space" player that can create big plays.

Nathan Dortch 3-star
CB Fort Myers, FL
South Fort Myers High School 5'11'' 170

Dortch is a quick and fluid DB prospect with cover corner skill-set. Has a modest frame but has some length and range to it; scrappy defender who plays bigger than his slighter measurables would suggest. Appears a bit quicker than fast and displays better recovery quickness than makeup speed. Versatile in coverage schemes. Tight controlled pedal and footwork. Does a very good job mirroring receivers in off-man; fluid in his turns and change-of-direction skill. Closes quickly to make up separation. Shows quick transitional skills flipping his hips 180 degrees turning to run vertically. Will step up and play aggressive press and tight man coverages as well. Effective impeding a receiver's release and rerouting. Retains proper inside leverage while sticking to the hip running vertically. We do feel like he could have difficulty versus bigger, more explosive college receivers. Long speed may be tested. Could struggle to gain positioning when defending the jump-ball. Comes up quick on both perimeter run and pass support. Gets off the stalk and will make the firm solo tackle. It's an area of concern with his leaner frame when projecting for the next level but Dortch certainly plays with an edge and the size/strength should come. Lacks a bit of size, speed and explosivness but this an under the radar cover guy with coveted feet and hips. Potentially a very good college Nickel.

Notes

Decommitted from North Carolina August 2011 following the firing of former head coach Butch Davis and committed to Miami-FL... Committed June 2011...

Jake O'Donnell 3-star
DE Doylestown, PA
Central Bucks East High School 6'5'' 235

O'Donnell is a defensive end prospect with good size and looks to have a frame that could support more good mass with further physical development. In time he could be a candidate to move inside, but displays the tools to stay at end as well. He gets off the ball well and looks to work predominately from a four-point stance. It does look to help this taller end to stay low and displays the ability come off the ball with good pad level. He is a physical kid, but despite his size it does seem that he could benefit from improving strength. He brings his hands, but needs to do a better job of pressing blockers off of him and creating separation. He will battle and can be tough against the double team, but because he can allow blockers to get into his frame it can make it tough for him to anchor and especially disengage. He displays solid straight-line speed for his size and good range. He displays the ability to come across the line and break down and work laterally. He is a solid wrap-up tackler. He can overrun the play at times and displays adequate ability to quickly change directions on the move. As a pass rusher he will attack the outside shoulder and work to take a tight path. He flashes the ability to use his hands, but needs to keep developing the use of his weapons. O'Donnell possesses good size and while he may not be a disruptive force, with some further development could be a productive solid three-down defender.

Brandon Holifield 3-star
TE Talahassee, FL
Godby High School 6'6'' 220

A raw talent, Holifield possesses the measurables and skill-set to develop over time at the tight end position in college. Has the athleticism to split out at WR and use his leaping ability to out jump smaller DB's. A potential red zone or underneath threat at the next level. Is a tall but lean prospect who has the length to add bulk. Has a long wingspan. Possesses long limbs and is deceptively quick and athletic for a guy his size. Has good speed with a long stride but needs to build up momentum to get to his top speed. Is quick off the line, eating up cushion fast. Has good hands, can extend well above his head to reel in a pass. Excels at high pointing the jump ball. Is raw in his route running, lacks intermediate running sharpness. Flashes the ability to get the ball in space in the short range and display some lateral suddenness but runs high, opening up body for direct hits. Uses his body to shield defenders from the ball on underneath routes. Shows he has to gear down in and out of breaks. It is hard for DB's to judge his movement skills and although he isn't a burner, his height makes him a dangerous deep threat or a red zone target on fade routes. Will work back to scrambling QB. Working the middle of the field or crossing routes will need to be his strengths at the next level. Overall, Holifield is a prospect who will need time to develop into his game, particularly his route running and in-line blocking. Most likely will be used as an H in flexed out sets to start his career. Has the frame and tools to excel in blocking but will need a red shirt year to refine these techniques.

Vernon Davis 3-star
CB Miami, FL
Coral Reef High School 5'9'' 170

Davis is a quick and fluid athlete who will most likely get recruited to play corner at the next level and add value as a returner. Savvy with good anticipation skills. He is a bit slight in stature and lacks great top-end speed but he plays bigger and faster and has big-play burst and quickness. Fluid through turns and shows crisp footwork. Can stick with receivers out of their breaks tightly and mirror with his loose hips and sharp change-of-direction skill. Shows very good stop-start footwork. Body control is excellent. Tracks the ball well and shows good leaping skills and athleticism defending the jump-ball. Turns into a receiver and competes. Coverage technique needs some polish but he is naturally smooth and fluid opening, turning and transitioning. Very light and agile on his feet. Could get recruited to play slot with the good space-player attributes he displays on film. Elusive in the open field and can change direction on a dime. He does have a smaller frame working against him and we question if he will be able to jam and reroute today's bigger college receivers and set the edge on run support. Does appear quicker than fast. Overall ball skills are good but can be inconsistent on defense. That said, Davis has cover-corner feet, quickness when projecting at the major college level and the ability to contribute in the slot or as returner which adds value in our eyes to his stock.

D'Mauri Jones 3-star
WR Lessburg, FL
Leesburg High School 6'3'' 185

Jones is a very athletic and gifted pass catcher with very good size, long arms and excellent height. He has a fairly thick build and is a very smooth athlete for his size. He is only going to get bigger. Is imposing off the line with adequate surge and quick feet to get into routes and make himself big underneath. He is part playmaker and part possession guy with reliable hands, solid route running ability and the skills to develop into a very good redzone target. Routes are sound, plays with good balance and shows good burst coming out of cuts. Plays quicker than his measurables would lead you to believe. He does a good job of finding the ball over his shoulder and adjusting to the deep ball. Displays soft hands and very good focus. Plucks the ball on the run and away from his frame. Transitions quickly upfield and has good one-step initial burst to extend plays after the catch. Knows how to use his body to shield defenders and uses his upper body subtly to gain separation from defenders when the ball is in the air. Is a good leaper that shows body control when elevating to extend and snag the jump ball. Has deceptive speed and burst once on a straight-line. With Jones you have a very tall and high cut athlete that is a short-stepper which limits his lateral agility and overall fluidity in the open field. As a result he is a bit straight-lined, lacks wiggle and ideal flexibility. Needs to catch and hit a crease to be a significant factor at the second level against top level competition. Jones makes a lot of plays and is talented. He is a BCS caliber player that needs some polish as an overall route runner, but has great measurables and good speed for his size.

Josh Witt 3-star
OLB Weston, FL
Cypress Bay High School 6'1'' 215

Witt is a very physical player and productive linebacker; can be extremely disruptive in the opponent's backfield. Has the size and athleticism for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition. His solid wrap tackling skills should prove beneficial as a special team's coverage player. We see good flexibility, balance and agility when playing in space; plays in a variety of alignments, both on and off the line of scrimmage; occasionally puts his hand in the dirt as a rush defensive end. Does a good job with key and diagnosis reaction skills against the pass and run; from the line we see a prospect with quick up-field movement, capable on taking on and overpowering blockers at the point of attack; can change direction while demonstrating the ability to move through traffic in pursuit of the football. Displays good hand use when playing the run in space; uses his hands well and doesn't stay blocked. Gets a quick read against the outside run; does a good job containing and forcing off the edge. We like this guy's ability to chase down plays that get to the second level. His athleticism and playing speed indicate potential both in zone and man coverage; appears to have good short/medium route awareness with eyes on the quarterback; is quick to close on underneath throws, limiting completion yardage to a minimum. His edge speed and ability to squeeze the pocket enable him to be a disruptive force when rushing the passer. This is a play maker, capable of consistently getting to the football. His motor and intensity are what we like to see when evaluating linebackers. Witt has all the tools necessary for a productive career at the BCS level of play.

Ereck Flowers 3-star
OT Miami, FL
Miami Norland High School 6'6'' 288

Flowers shows the foot quickness and agility necessary to succeed in pass protection; his upper body playing strength and explosion will need to improve. Has the size and athleticism for the offensive tackle position at the major level of competition; should be able to add body mass to his frame over time. Playing out of a three point stance we see good hip and ankle flexibility although this prospect must learn to play with better bend along with a lower pad level; flashes the ability to come off the ball aggressively however he tends to establish initial fit and pad level too high; can wall off and create running lanes however improved playing strength, base and leg drive are needed if he is to knock defenders off the ball. The initial quickness we see getting to linebackers is a positive; can reach and gain leverage on offset defenders, demonstrating good ability getting downfield and play on his feet in space. This lineman is quick out of his stance when asked to pull and trap, showing the balance and agility necessary to turn up-field and locate defenders on the move. We see the quickness necessary to get a hat on active 1st and 2nd level defenders however his pad level must improve. With improved bulk and playing strength this player has the potential to make all the required run blocks at the next level. Although we see him play too high in pass protection his arm length, quick hands and nimble feet should be assets; sets quickly but too tall; still flashes the ability to handle edge quickness and change of direction moves. All areas of hand use will need attention. We see flashes of an aggressive finishing attitude however more consistent effort is needed. Flowers is a developmental size prospect with good overall athleticism; some time and perhaps a red shirt year may be necessary to polish his skills.

Dwayne Hoilett 3-star
DE Vero Beach, FL
Vero Beach Senior High School 6'3'' 212

Hoilett is a prospect with some upside. He is a defensive end with a very lean build. He has good length, but really needs to work to add more good size to his frame. He displays enough athleticism to potentially make a move to outside linebacker, but we feel with added bulk he will ideally fit best as a 4-3 end. He gets in a good stance and displays a very good initial burst off the ball. While he is a kid you could label as a bit skinny at this point he does play with good technique and is tougher at the point than his size might suggest. He fires off the ball low and generates good power from his lower body and he also does a good job of shooting his hands and he is able to quickly get into blockers and stand them up. He will need the additional size to help him against consistently stronger and bigger opponents at the next level, but he displays that he can play smart and can maximize power and be tough to block. He is a kid with good range and solid ability to quickly redirect. He is a solid wrap-up tackler. Needs to do a better job of coming across the line and squeezing down and closing daylight and not running himself out of the play. As a pass rusher he has a good get-off, but is not a player necessarily equipped to just run by blockers and adequately bends the edges. He does flash the ability to be active with his hands and can challenge blockers enough with his first step to keep them honest and while he may not be dynamic with further development of his pass rush ****nal he can be a productive edge rusher. Hoilett needs to get bigger, but the kid is a good football player and is arguably flying a bit under the radar and could be a nice addition to a programs defense especially once he fills out more.

Gray Crow 3-star
QB Clearwater, FL
Countryside High School 6'3'' 220

Crow reminds us a lot of Christian Ponder in terms of his demeanor and methods as a pocket passer with good enough athleticism and feet. He is a very well developed, good looking prospect on the hoof as far as measurables go and he has shown he is capable of making all the throws you want. He plays mostly from the shotgun with play action, short roll outs and throws from within the pocket to all areas of the field. This is a prospect that when in a zone can look extremely impressive displaying an array of throws and consistently showing quality mechanics. The ball comes out quickly from about chest level and he carries the ball tight and compact, but relaxed. He sets up quickly, shows balance and poise to stand in the pocket and work through progressions. Shows command and will make a lot of plays on time and with a smooth stroke. Can get jittery feet at times, but for the most part plants and transfers his weight well from within the pocket. He shows a nice feel for pressure around him and when to subtly move around while keeping his eyes downfield to make the throw. Shows the consistent sent up and plant to play from under center, drop and hit the out route off the plant foot to the opposite sideline with good rhythm and timing. As we watch Crow we are not convinced he has a great arm. We see a lot of arc to throws that should be lasers. He shows touch and good ball placement, but does not always drive with power to fit the ball into tight spots. Also, at the top of his release the ball looks like it can get away from him a bit which causes a lack of great zip and RPM's which he shows he is capable of having. This is a player that is savvy and appears to be competitive and productive. He is a good ball handler and makes wise decisions with the ball. Very good prospect.

Keith Brown 4-star
OLB Miami, FL
Miami Norland High School 6'1'' 225

Brown is very active and productive playing both the run and pass; displays good strength and playing speed; over time we see an every down player. Has the size and athleticism for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition. The tough knock'em back tackling skill he demonstrates should prove very productive as an early special team's coverage player. This prospect possesses the flexibility, balance and agility to play in space; does a good job with key and diagnosis skills reacting to run and pass plays. Flashes good downhill ability vs. the inside run; is quick to fill gaps and scrape off the edge; has the playing strength to take on and defeat blockers at the point of attack. Demonstrates good quickness to the ball, especially when moving through traffic in pursuit of the football; is very good at maintaining backside leverage and not over running the ball; does a good job with run blitz while showing the willingness to step up into the line and mix it up with the big guys. We like his underneath zone coverage ability; displays good underneath route awareness with eyes on the quarterback; gets a quick jump on the ball while his ball skills look very solid with a "pick six" to his credit; displays the athleticism, and playing speed necessary for man coverage assignments; is capable of creating havoc in the backfield in passing situations; times the blitz well with a good closing burst to the quarterback. This guy is a tough customer, capable of making game changing plays from any spot on the field. His intensity and motor are what we look for when evaluating outside linebackers. The athleticism and playing speed Brown possesses could possibly gain him early situational playing time on defense.

Ricquan Southward 4-star
WR Lakeland, FL
Lakeland High School 6'2'' 185

Southward is very productive pass catcher and can move the chains with the ball in his hands. Is very effective as a receiver while also demonstrating the ability to rip off big chunks of yardage when running the reverse play. Has the size and athleticism for the wide receiver position at the major level of competition. It appears his long frame should be capable of adding some bulk over time provided playing speed is not adversely affected. This guy is very productive returning kickoffs and punts; handles the deep punt very well showing the ability to make defenders miss while also getting to the outside and into the end zone. Although we don't see a burst when in traffic his ability to shake and make tacklers miss gets him the step needed to break into the open where his steady long speed usually helps him outrun opponents. Has the quickness to put immediate pressure on defenders when releasing off the line; the size and the playing strength we see should be an advantage against press coverage. Although we like his ability to separate at the top of deep routes developing finesse when running short/medium routes is a must. His athleticism takes over when competing for the deep contested throw; demonstrates very good jumping ability; can adjust his body when off the turf to turn and make the high out of the frame catch. His hands appear to be strong and relaxed, showing the ability to snatch balls thrown out of the frame. This is a tough guy when in a crowd; will come inside to secure the catch while demonstrating over the pads finishing toughness. We like his aggressive downfield blocking effort; keeps his hands inside with the balance and strength needed to sustain and knock defenders off the ball; is willing to look for a second block downfield. Southward does not appear to be an immediate impact starter however early playing time appears to be a strong possibility.

James Burgess Jr. 4-star
OLB Homestead, FL
Homestead Senior High School 6'0'' 196

Burgess is an excellent athlete demonstrating the playing speed to make plays all over the field. Although we see production as a running back his height and athleticism are better suited for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition. The quickness and tough knock'em back tackling skills he possess suggest the potential for early playing time as a special teams coverage player; will need to add bulk to his frame over time. Shows good vision and foot quickness as a running back and although we see an upright style he is effective as an inside runner. Displays the flexibility, balance and agility to cover ground and play in space; does a very good job with key and diagnosis reaction skills against the run and pass. His instincts and motor allow for a great jump on the ball while his athleticism and foot speed get him through traffic to fill open gaps, creating havoc in the backfield. For his size, this guy has the toughness with enough playing strength to take on and defeat blockers when moving to the point of attack; demonstrates sideline to sideline playing speed showing excellent pursuit angle angles. We see very good potential as a zone and man coverage defender; displays the foot quickness to react in tight spaces; can crossover for depth with eyes on the quarterback while getting into throwing lanes. Can plant and break on the ball with little wasted movement; appears to have good ball skills with one interception. This guy is a playmaker capable of changing the momentum of a game. Unless a red shirt year is deemed necessary Burgess could see early situational playing time on defense.

Jelani Hamilton 4-star
DE For Lauderdale, FL
Saint Thomas Aquinas School 6'4'' 245

Hamilton is a physically good looking kid from a top high school program. He has good size and possesses a nice reach for his build. He should also be able to add more good size to his frame as he continues to physically develop. He has a solid get-off. He flashes the ability to fire out of his stance low and engage a blocker and generate good power from his lower body. When he does that he is capable of standing a blocker up and holding his ground. He does need to work to keep his pads down and bend more. He also needs to work to use that reach he has more to his advantage. He will battle when taking on blockers, but can allow them to get into his chest and when he raises up he can be pushed back. He really needs to work on the double team and playing inside does not seem like an ideal fit for him. He will come across the ball and break down and stay square. Displays adequate lateral movement and ability to quickly re-direct. He is a solid tackler and is a kid with a good motor. With further development he is a kid that will likely fit best as a strong-side end who is best at defending the run. Hamilton is not a disruptive and flashy defender. He is kid with good physical size and a competitive nature. He also comes from a program where he used to competing against good talent on a daily basis and should understand what it takes to win. Should be able to develop into a solid and productive starter at the college level.

Jontavious Carter 3-star
WR Cordele, GA
Crisp County High School 6'3'' 192

Carter is a big and physical prospect that certainly looks the part. He is rangy and athletic and a difficult match-up for smaller DBs off the line. Is imposing off the ball and shows good surge and burst give his size. Reminds us of Miami WR Laron Byrd from a few classes back as he is raw in many ways, but gifted. Knows how to stem DBs and drive them off him. Speed cuts into intermediate routes quickly and is a smooth athlete through the hips given his size. Shields DBs very well with his strength, ability to gain position and wide catch radius. Plucks in a crowd, on the move and secures quickly. He is not as sharp and precise as a route runner as he will be, but he does not show tension in the hips, he can cut and smoothly create separation which isn't always easy for a player his size. Carter is a guy that shows great focus on the football. He is a vertical threat because of his size/speed combination and you can bet if he is even and the ball is in the air he will make great effort to come down with it. Plays the high ball like a power forward and attacks the football with good extension. With is exciting about Crater is that his deficiencies are mostly coachable and can be corrected. He is already blessed with size, athleticism and nice speed for his size. He needs polish and discipline to maximize his upside, but there is real ability here to mold and Carter will be a better player down the road than he is now.

Angelo Jean-Louis 4-star
WR Wellington, FL
Palm Beach Central High School 6'0'' 185

Jean-Louis is an explosive prospect with a second gear. He has good height, a strong, yet wiry build and the makings for a real playmaker at the next level. He is a terrific overall athlete with feet, ball skills and nice acceleration. Can play inside or out wide and can stretch the field. Is a fairly precise route runner who is conscious of his steps and spacing while showing great sideline awareness. Fast release off the line warrants a cushion, but he still shows the vertical speed to slip behind the coverage. Is very good in underneath space to effectively create separation on comeback back routes as well; very smooth and quick coming out of his breaks. What stands out when first watching him is his natural smoothness as a receiver prospect; has a knack for making things look effortless. Displays great body control and adjustment while the ball is in the air on deep throws; concentration and hands are excellent. Consistently plucks the ball away from his frame and at its highest point with great arm extension, timing and leaping skills on the jump ball. After the catch Jean-Louis is very impressive with his ability to get from 0-60 rapidly and pull away in the open field. He shows very explosive change-of-direction to jab and cut making defenders miss and leaving them behind. Has some physicality to his game although he is not a huge redzone guy. Will compete for the ball, but is not necessarily a jump ball guy. Jean-Louis has the skill set to become a BCS level standout and a guy that can stretch the field. Very impressive prospect.

Randy Johnson 4-star
ATH Miami, FL
Miami Norland High School 5'9'' 174

Johnson is an extremely competitive and elusive runner -- just an excellent overall athlete with the ability to also get recruited highly at other skill positions and in the return game. Lacks ideal size but his shorter frame is put together well and he has good overall body strength for his size. A quick-twitched athlete with very good speed. Does appear quicker than fast. As a running back, he is versatile in skill-set and used creatively. Extremely quick and fluid in and out of his cuts and this shifty runner is near impossibly to get a clean hit on at the high school level, in space or tight traffic. Body control and lateral agility are in an upper-tier level. Flashes excellent stop-start, jump-cut and redirection skill. Simply freezes defenders who try and breakdown on him. Gets small through the hole and can see and exploit the creases of daylight very quick. He is tightly-wound and his legs and body never stop moving allowing to spin off consistent arm-tackles. This is a small but determined runner who will lower the pads and get downhill when needed. Balance is excellent. While very slippery to wrap up, he does not project to be a highly productive between the tackles runner at the next level. Lacks great size and power and feel his yards after contact production will diminish some. Not a real explosive runner and we question if he has the bulk and load-back qualities to develop into a productive and durable every-down back. Displays great hands and ball skills and could be a nightmare for opposing defensive coordinators in the screen and draw game or as a pure multi-purpose back. Great speed, quickness and hips as well as ball skills make corner or slot receiver possibilities as well in college. Overall, Johnson has some wow factor to his game from a elusive standpoint and is not afraid to square up and get North. Would benefit from added size and continued strength. Very good dynamic prospect. Should see early time as a returner.

Amos Leggett 4-star
CB Homestead, FL
Homestead Senior High School 5'11'' 175

Leggett is a quick and competitive corner with a lot of ability. He does not have great size or speed but possesses few physical or technical flaws on film and is just a baller who makes a lot of plays. Very instinctive with great coverage and overall awareness skills. Consistently puts himself into the correct position to make plays. Tough, physical and scrappy. Does a great job anticipating the pass and jumping routes. Very quick and fluid transitioning out of his pedal. Direct out of his breaks with great burst driving on the perimeter pass. Difficult to create separation on in man and off-man coverages as well. Has great feet and balance. Can change direction sharply with little wasted movement. Is quick with the smooth hips to stick with receivers tightly out of their breaks with a physical element to take away leverage. He is fluid in his turns. We would like to see him play with consistent bend in his knees through his pedal. Recovers extremely quick with the long arms and great leaping skills to get into position to make plays on a lot of balls in one-on-one coverage. Ball skills are excellent. A really good perimeter defender versus the run and pass. Plant and drives on the ball with great explosiveness and physicality. Closes the cushion fast and limits yards after the catch. Is a strong, solid tackler who drives through ball carriers. Makes a lot of production near the line of scrimmage with a good nose for the football. May make an ideal Nickel in college or a hard, underneath zone corner. His speed is one area that does draw concern as he appears quicker than fast but we feel he has the intangibles to mask that area particularly if he's not asked to play a lot without over the top help. Overall, Leggett brings a lot to the table physically and has the football smarts you look for in the position. Just a great football player who will enter college ready to play.

Preston Dewey 4-star
QB Austin, TX
St. Andrews High School 6'2'' 200

Dewey is a guy that has a lot of positive qualities both as a thrower and athlete. He reminds us of Chase Rettig from the 2010 class only Dewey may not have quite the same arm. He has good size and may still be filling out and adding inches. He possesses a calm, poised demeanor and a smooth over-the-top, quick delivery. Plays in a multiple set scheme, works from under center and out of the shotgun and is asked to make throws to all three levels in the passing game as well as play-action and designated roll-outs. Carries the ball chest high and mechanically is extremely sound and consistent. Shows good feet and footwork away from center. Is a good ball handler, can freeze defenders and attack the middle of the field off play fakes. Dewey possesses a very good arm, not elite, but his ability to anticipate and get the ball out on time is very good. Throws to a spot with confidence his WR will be where he is supposed to be and you can see he has very good command of the scheme. He is a guy that when he gets into a rhythm can get very hot. Shows good RPMs and because of timing and his release he can fit the ball into tight creases underneath and to some intermediate areas. Does a nice job throwing on the move to either side. Is a good enough athlete to get out of trouble and keep a play alive and will tuck the ball and run when necessary, but is not a dual-threat. As you watch Dewey he gets better and grows on you because his release is smooth and impressive. However, Dewey does not always set his feet properly. Throws off his back foot too often. Feet seem unsettled at times so he does not always get the power on some throws he is capable of. Overall, Dewey's recruitment will start heating up in the spring and summer. He is a late-bloomer and has upside due to his physical tools that are going to be enhanced as he gets stronger and matures.

Raphael Kirby 4-star
OLB Stone Mountain, GA
Stephenson High School 6'1'' 215

Kirby is very productive playing against the run; shows the playing strength and speed to factor in on plays all over the field. Has the size and athleticism for the inside linebacker position at the major level of competition. This guy hits a ton, with the leverage to knock'em back where they came from; should be an excellent, early special team's coverage defender. Is productive as a short yardage/goal line halfback; runs over his pads with good playing strength. Has very good flexibility, balance and agility; is "cat quick" getting an immediate read on running plays; does a good job with key and diagnosis reactions vs. the pass and run. Will step up and defeat blockers at the point of attack however his quickness allows him to avoid contact when moving to the football. This player is a tough customer who shows the ability to play downhill and stack the inside run; is quick to the edge and sideline showing great ability to move through traffic in pursuit of the football; does an excellent job maintaining backside leverage on plays away. As a zone coverage defender his hips look fluid; flashes the ability to crossover for depth with eyes on the quarterback; demonstrates the ability to plant and break up on the underneath routes. His athleticism and playing speed indicate good potential as an inside man coverage defender. This athlete is alert and instinctive; does a very good job timing both the run and pass blitz; can be disruptive coming up the middle and creating havoc in the opponent's backfield; puts immediate pressure on the quarterback with his great closing burst. We feel Kirby has an excellent future at the BCS level of play. The explosive production he presently displays could lead to early playing time as his career begins.

Reggie Northrup 4-star
OLB Jacksonville, FL
First Coast High School 6'2'' 215

Northrup is a very active player against the run using his exceptional athleticism to make plays all over the field. Has the size for the outside linebacker position at the major level of competition. This prospect has the wrap tackling skills to be productive early on as a special teams coverage player. Demonstrates very good flexibility, balance and agility playing off the edge or when moving through traffic to the football; shows good quick instincts; is able to beat blockers to the point of attack with immediate quickness. We like his ability to key and read plays; is capable of taking on blockers and working downhill to the football. His athleticism is evident when moving through traffic; we see a player who is hard to block and even when this happens, he doesn't stay blocked for long. Has excellent pursuit habits and chase down speed consistently gets him to the football. Although most of his production against the pass results from his blitz ability, his athleticism suggests good man and zone coverage potential; this guy has quick feet, can crossover, run and cover ground; brings immediate pressure on the quarterback as a result of his blitz timing and closing quickness. This is a very active player who has the knack for being in the right place and making plays. The athleticism and playing speed with which Northrup plays the game leads us to believe he will have a very productive future at the BCS level of play. We don't see him as an immediate, impact starter rather one capable of early playing time as his career commences.

They should all be licking their chops right about now

Over under how many of these frosh start next year

I say 4

Too early to tell since this class is not finished but right now I say at least 2 wideouts, 3 linebackers, Duke Johnson, and all dbs will play. Maybe Dewey if he and Williams surpass Morris. Far as any being starters I say Brown, A.J., Louis Jean, and any quality safety

Who can start:

QB- none
RB- maybe Duke if Miller leaves but doubtful
WR- doubtful with Streeter, Hurns, Dorsett back
OL- none
TE- doubtful
DE- no chance with Vernon and Chick
DT- no chance because DT are rarely ready and we have Smith, Ojomo, Forston, Porter, Grimble
LB- definitely a chance, Gaines, Buchanon, Perryman, Cain have all seen significant time
CB- good chance, only McGee, Finnie will have experience
S- good chance, no one here is impressive.

I think AJ Legget starts right away here, he's that good. Kid is a much better football player than Deon Bush is. Bush being the superior athlete. We have a great class of corners coming in though. I think AJL might have a shot at PT as well.

DT is a spot where a kid can come in and compete right away.

LB is the big one though. IMO Kirby can some in and play on the strong side right away. Very athletic kid who can pretty much play any LB spot. Perryman has WLB locked up. IMO Cain starts at MLB next year but that's just a gut feeling.

Oh, and if Sean Price follows Jenkins, I can definitely see him starting at TE or at least backing up Walford.

Buchanan is coming back too, and Golden loves him

I thought we would redshirt Dewey considering the injury he recently suffered.

If he's not in the top 2 going into the season he will RS. He's coming in early and should be ready to go for spring practice. Crow also coming in early.

2012 Prospects
Score: 92
November 8, 2011 10:27 pm

Miami Norland High School OL Ereck Flowers says he's shutting down his recruitment.

Where he once was thinking about taking some visits with teammates Duke Johnson and Keith Brown - who are also Cane commitments - he's now decided not to.

"I was conspiring to take some visits, but I decided why waste my time?" Flowers said.

Flowers says he's on track to graduate early and arrive at Miami this January. Brown is also on track to do the same.

But, whereas Flowers is solid, Brown remains a soft commitment.

"I talk to him about Miami, but he's going to go where he wants to go," Flowers said.

Flowers said that "a lot of schools" wanted him to take official visits. But he's just comfortable as a Cane.

"I have a great relationship with Miami coaches - I talk with coach (George) McDonald and also coach (Al) Golden every once in a while," Flowers said. "They talk about me coming in early, just different things about the program."

Flowers has helped his team to a 9-0 record while playing left tackle.

"I'll be a tackle at Miami," he said.

Of his prediction for Saturday's game at FSU, Flowers said, "I like Miami to pull through. I think it'll be a close game, though."

? for CANE. Do you watch these kids in person in game situations? Just curious to know how and where you get your evals from.

Good post.

David Thompson isn't 6'1", he is 5'10" at best. He was at UVA game, to short to play QB at UM. Is he definitely playing football?

Deon Bush
[ESPNU 150]
S Miami, FL
Christopher Columbus High School 6'1'' 177

Bush is arguably one of the faster and more athletic safeties in this class. He still has some room to fill out and gain strength but is tall, long and rangy. Displays excellent speed and range. He is fast enough with the hips and movement skills to get recruited at corner; it may depend on how he continues to physically develop. Very productive and comfortable around the football in coverage. Puts himself in correct position to make a ton of plays. Soundly reads receivers and route development. Flashes great recovery speed, range and leaping skills in deep zone coverage. Shows very good timing and closing burst breaking on underneath routes and separating the ball from receiver with solid contact. Undercuts a lot of routes and is a threat with the ball in his hands on the INT. Flashes great hips and transitional skills matched up over slots in man coverage. He's very versatile in coverage technique. May actually make an ideal Nickel corner. Gets downhill fast and can cover the field sideline-to-sideline on run support. Flashes solid open field tackling skills but we would like to see him wrap up more securely and run through with greater force. He is a great space defender who can match up from a speed and fluidity standpoint with backs and quicker skill players. The main area for improvement when projecting for the next level is on run support. He has a narrow base and not much power behind him at the point of attack; but it should come once he attacks a college weight training program. He appears to have the physical demeanor as well needed to be productive in that facet. Overall, Bush is a defensive back with a lot of upside and versatility. He can run, cover and has a knack for making big plays. A threat in the return game as well. Could emerge as one of the top safeties in the country if he can get bigger, stronger and become more well-rounded.

Tracy Howard
[ESPNU 150]
CB Miramar, FL
Miramar High School 5'11'' 175

Instinctively, Howard reminds of Nick Waisome from the 2011 class but he brings more of a physical element to his game. He has very good size and speed, not elite, and is extremely versatile in coverage and overall skill-set. Understands schemes and shows great anticipation skills. Very reactive to the ball in both man and zone coverages and seems to routinely put himself in correct position to make plays. Pedal is tight, controlled and transitions in and out smoothly and quickly. Hips are very fluid. Very effective in press and playing off the ball. Will play receivers aggressively off the line using strong hand technique to reroute, retain inside leverage and does not over extend. Mirrors tightly over the top of receivers in off-man coverages and opens his hips to turn and run showing little wasted movement. He could become a bit more crisp out of his breaks but is direct and very well balanced in his overall footwork. Shows very good breaking burst closing the cushion in zone schemes or when peeling off in man-to-man. In deep coverage he can provide favorable matchups on taller receivers with his good length and leaping skills. Ball skills could be polished. Keeps proper positioning on the jump-ball. Flashes great recovery and football speed when he is caught out of position. Run support skills are solid but it's one area that can be improved and should be as he adds more size. He will come up and tackle on perimeter run and pass support and is reliable in the open field. Overall, Howard is one of the top lock-down corners in the country and should be able to step in early and play a similar role at the next level. True cover corners are hard to find at the high school level; but he has the instincts, physical ability and technique coaches covet.

RayShawn Jenkins talks about MIAMI!

Posted Nov 13, 2011

A talented safety prospect just switched his commitment from USF to Miami. Read on to see everything he's saying about it.

Rayshawn Jenkins committed to USF early in the process. However, Miami offered him a scholarship recently and he formally switched his pledge on Sunday.

"I chose Miami because it’s a private school with a really great education," Jenkins said. "Also, it’s not too far or too close from my home, it’s a perfect distance. The city there is great, and the whole atmosphere, plus the weather is amazing."

Jenkins, 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, says that while he's firm with his new commitment he'd still like to take a couple more visits.

"I still plan on using my visits. I am going to take official visits to Wake Forest and Cincinnati, plus my official to Miami," he said.

On the field the St Pete (Fla) Admiral Farragut standout talked about his senior season.

"We just ended our regular season this week with a 9-1 record," he said. "We’re looking forward to make a run in the playoffs starting this coming week. Individually I played pretty good, I only got to play in five games due to a rib injury I had. But in those five games I had seven touchdowns and about 400 receiving yards."

Jenkins, who claims a 3.2 GPA and a 19 ACT score, talked about the direction of his future program.

"I believe Miami has a good future, I think Al Golden is doing a great job recruiting and we have a potential to come in and turn the program around to the way it used to be," he said.

Finally, Jenkins sees a great opportunity as a Hurricane.

"Coach Al Golden said I have a chance to come in and play early and start for four years, also I might have a chance to return kicks and punts," he said.
