Nah, no offense taken, I appreciate responses, good and or bad. Confirmations or reaffirming my beliefs don't help me as much as spotting blind spots for me.

Don't disagree with any of your take, and respect your reservations about Cignetti, but dude in year two just beat OSU, the reigning national champ, and has a team that's top ten or top 15 in both offense and defense. Home games, road games, cupcakes or not....He's won bro.
Zero debate from me on that last paragraph. If this was Cignetti's first year, I would speak my reservations a little louder. The fact he's done it two years in a row - including beating O$U - makes me stop and wonder if Cignetti is the truth....and it's pretty much leaning that way. As you so eloquently put it, "he's won bro." No debating that.

He did go 4-0 with our backs against the wall though and dominated all the teams we played.

That was unexpected right?
If the turtle in a shell thing is finally behind Mario, and if I am being optimistic, it has been since SMU, then I’m good with just going forward unless someone wants to drag up the past, then I’ll do the same in response… but before the season I thought:

1. The middle of our front 7 on defense would be a liability in the run game in particular and it hasn’t been.

2.The evals would be less qualitative in results and the past year or so have been noticeably elevated.

3. That we would be 8-4 this season and we went 10-2.

4. That we’d lose to ND and the gator and we beat both (I also saw minimum 2 losses between Louisville, SMU & Pitt - we beat Pitt)

5. I thought we’d be screwed out of the playoffs but at least as to ND, we weren’t in the end though we should be above Bama.

I mean aside from the fact the the HC is here on a long term contract, life is significantly better as a Cane fan if we step back and look at where we are as compared to where we have been, even with the hiccups.

The floor of the program is raised. We are no longer a joke. We’re getting respect and losses are close.

Of course there’s plenty to improve and I think it should have happened sooner but I’m happy. And like I said, if the turtle in the shell is past us, everyone who cares more about being a respectable, competitive program again first, should put the rest in the rear view. Those who can’t, mope or slurper, should be seen as remnants of the Cold War and miserable outliers of the past and ignored.

Assuming Mario has progressed and over these past 4 games he has, think it’ll be incremental in some ways as he learns and progresses further but honestly, I think he’s earned our support if this continues. Doesn’t mean there can’t be constructive criticism and discussion but right now I’m very happy to be in the playoffs. A lot of you guys on the mope and slurper divide deserve good things as you re all fans who care. The extremes are what they are. If Mario continues to progress, people should progress here as well in my opinion.

This is a historic time. Not because I think we’ll win it all and go on another run right now, but because we are finally truly at least on the way back towards “We Back!”

Be thankful. I feel gratitude to the football Gods right now.

I can't thumbs up and laugh simultaneously, so I took the latter, cuz of the "eloquence" you pointed out.

Have you ever read any books or listened to any lectures of John Woodens? If not, highly recommend. Some people are just really good about the details, and while I don't know that to be the case, Cignetti might be one of those types.

I type a lot of garbage on this site, mostly for chuckles. I like using big words somoetimes to confuse people into thinking I'm smart. On occassion, I do some reading. I have not read any John Wooden books, but have seen interviews, heard him speak, etc. I'm aware that he began each season explaining to his players the importance of hos they put their socks on and lace up their shoes. I've also seen the reverance his old players show/showed for him. Bill Walton and Kareem both held him in the highest regards.

Cignetti may be exactly what you're suggesting. He probably is. He's kind of an enigma to me just because I never thought in my lifetime I would see Indiana University win anything in football. They've sucked worse than a $5 crackhoore scratching for a hit for my entire life, and I'm no young man. This dude won 10+ games in back to back years and just completed a 13-0 regular season as B1G champs. That to me is simply astonishing.

Did a Quick Look of the listed starts I counted 14 of the 22 as transfers, and a majority of the remaining to be JR or SR (not Cignetti recruits). Again, it was a quick look so it maybe off a bit. Also, they have taken 54 transfers in his two seasons. It has worked thus far, we will have to wait on the sustainability of it.

To your other point, he has had the same co-ordinators with him for the past 9 seasons and brought them along to each of his stops. Eventually he will need to replace them, but that is definitely an area where he out performed Mario in the short term.
Will he? He's 64.

The mope squad finna drag you.

Should have been 24-0!
Anything less is unacceptable!
Give me Natty or give me death!
Natty doesn't count unless you shut out all opponents.

I can hear it now..... like the voice of an old girlfriend waddling up to you from behind at the bar.....you get that tingly feeling again only to quickly remember the black heart and lack of soul that the succubus takes such pride in.

Notice the squad ain’t around much. Last Sunday (CFO selection), & last four weeks have been their worst nightmare.

It’s extremely impressive when you think about where we were for 20+ years. Sure, I know everyone is going to point to the two losses each season and say “Well, we should have never lost those.” When you look around college football now, people need to understand their team isn’t going to go undefeated every year and win by 30. EVERY team has at least 1-2 stinkers each year. Bama lost to FSU. Texas lost to Florida. Oregon needed a last second FG to beat Washington St. Georgia barely beat Fla. and Tennessee. The list goes on and on. I think there’s several factors that have led to this:

1.) With the portal and NIL the talent pool is more spread out now. There used to be 15-20 schools that got practically all of the elite talent while the rest were left to fend for the scraps.

2.) Scheming/game planning is much more complex now. Even when you are at a huge talent disadvantage the great coaches can come up with a game plan to neutralize said talent. I remember back in the 80’s-90’s if there was a talent disparity it was a foregone conclusion that it would be a 40-50 point blowout.

3.) My final point is the one I think oftentimes gets overlooked and not discussed enough. The fact of the matter is that 18-22 year olds are just different now. They’re constantly distracted by social media and everything going on around them and in their lives. As a coach, I just think it’s infinitely harder to keep them engaged and focused throughout a season.

I know I went off on a tangent, but it’s basically a long-winded way of saying perfection is very hard to achieve in college football these days. You’re going to have stinkers. You’re going to have 1-2 games where you have to grind out a win somehow, someway. When you take a step back though and look at the big picture, Mario has done a really good job.

I thnk you're correct in your first paragraph. (Sidenote - my commentary ahead not an attack on you in any way.) The fans that expected a Cignetti-like result here also likely smoke crack prior to forming opinions in life. To expect someone to come in and accomplish what Cignetti has in two years borders on expecting Jesus Christ level miracles. I have some reservations about Cignetti (mostly just astonishment at this point) because I want to see what he does when his team plays more than 4 road games, plays more than two tough games a year and are no longer sneaking up on unsuspecting teams. I want to see if he sustains this level for years to come. For every Cignetti, there are 20 Hugh Freezes, Billy Napiers, and Sherrone Moores.
I've been a Mario fan this whole time. I recognized that our team was in a bad place when he took over. I was not/ am not a slurper. I simply thought/think he's the right guy to get us back to relevance. I heard the "But Sonny Dykes did it right away!" or "Look at what Deion is doing in Boulder!" Expecting someone to come in and pull off elite results from the rip just isn't realistic.

Carry on.

Go Canes!

This has always been my take. Cignettis are lottery tickets. With all his flaws Mario was a Top 20 coach when we took him based on resume and a Top 5 recruiter. He was a culture builder. And he bleeds O and G. That’s a recipe for success at Miami even if it requires a build process.

What Cignetti has done is unbelievable. Their evals have been great in the portal. Particularly where he had to go, with G5. He killed it his 1st year with his portal players brought in. Most had 2nd years. Then he adding some to it this past off season. I am looking at just like FSU did at 13-0. He is losing everyone, everyone. Let's see if he can build another miracle with the portal, again. It's just sad to lose your best DL for the season, Daly, while celebrating with fans after the OSU win.
Mario has done a unbelievable job here rebuilding the whole program. Miami as a program is in way better position than IU. Mario built it correctly and has had more time to do so.

Funny, half the espn folks are picking us to beat atm, but not one has us beating osu. To be fair, the other half aren’t picking atm over osu either.

I’ll be (relatively) happy if our season end with a loss to osu, but a win…I’m not sure I’ve believed something that good could happen in years.

Done!! Thanks for making it, it cracks me up. I'm old and tech challenged so I dont know how to do that. lol
Im old and tech challenged too. Lol these are easy and somewhat automated. There’s people on here that really have skills.

Anyway I had to do it. Everytime I see you as active on the board I think of southpark
