Let's see

117-20 record (85% win pct)
2 national championships
4 conference championships
Finished 7th or better in every final AP poll since 2017

Hard to complain with that type of success
He didn’t inherit a dumpster fire but did take it to the next level with practically unlimited resources.

The knock was that it didn't happen fast enough, ala Cignetti, but while those first couple of MC years had their way too low moments, we saw progress, year after year. MC has his warts for sure, but the care factor is just too high to give up on him although I too **** on him and the future of this squad after the SMU and UL losses.

Op interestingly I decided to go down memory lane last week and pulled up our Manny Diaz squad facing Bama. Why would I want this kick in the nuts you'd ask? Although we always look the part, size, strength, collectively nowadays, I just wanted to remind myself how far we've come from the absolute manhandling that occurred during those years....None of which takes place during MC's past 3 seasons. Ultimately that had always been a glaring issue...can we recruit the dawgs to line up against the big boys, and it's apparently clear that we can....and will continue to. Go Canes.

Cignetti will be an interesting study moving forward. He was largely able to have quick success because he hit on the portal in back to back seasons, so far recent history has proven that to be the outlier and not the rule. Meanwhile his high school recruiting classes have been 15th and 9th in the Big Ten. Can his portal success be sustained without the high school foundation?

I just wanted to contextualize the last 2 seasons and how impressive this program has been. Obviously this isn't all apples to apples because of the schedules, and we know the ACC isn't great, but I don't care where or who you play, winning 10 games in the present day college football is a very, very good season. And doing it back to back years is exceptional.

I wanted to look at the last 2 regular seasons and see who was definitively better than Miami. Remember, we're now 20-4 in the last 2 regular seasons. This doesn't account for conference championship games, bowl games, playoffs, etc...just Miami compared to everyone else over the past 24 regular season games (2 years).

Here are the list of teams who have a better record than Miami in the regular season since the beginning of 2024:

Oregon 23-1
Indiana 23-1
Ohio State 22-2
Georgia 21-3
Notre Dame 21-3
BYU 21-3

End of list.

SIX teams have a better record than us the last 2 years. In the entire country. There are kids ON THIS ROSTER who got absolutely boat-raced, at home, by Middle Tennessee State. And it wasn't a fluke. They beat the **** out of us. We lost 45-3 on our home field to FSU. We gave up 45 points, at home, to Duke. We got beat at Clemson 40-10, and the game wasn't even remotely that close....we ended the game with 98 (!!!) total yards of offense, we had as many penalties (6) as we did first downs. At halftime, we had eight (8) yards of offense. In a half of football. Eight. Yards.

That was some dark, dark ****. So, before we embark on going to Weirdoville and smacking the overrated Aggies around, I just wanted to stop and smell one hint of one rose for a minute. The last 2 years, for the vast majority of them, have been fun as ****. We had some bumps, for sure, but only 6 teams in the whole **** world had less than we did.

Last laugh -- We have won more games by 20+ points in the past 2 years (13) than either FSU or UiF have won, TOTAL. FSU has 7 wins the last 2 years. UiF has 11.

Let's go get another one next Saturday with the whole world watching.

Go Canes.
The mope squad finna drag you.

Should have been 24-0!
Anything less is unacceptable!
Give me Natty or give me death!
Natty doesn't count unless you shut out all opponents.

I can hear it now..... like the voice of an old girlfriend waddling up to you from behind at the bar.....you get that tingly feeling again only to quickly remember the black heart and lack of soul that the succubus takes such pride in.

Agree to a certain extent. He also had to hit on staff which as we've witnessed during MC first season, can be a huge miss. The fact that's he's done this for two seasons straight is fairly compelling, 3 years though??? Interesting study to say the least, I'd be hard pressed to attribute his success solely to portal hit rate.

I thnk you're correct in your first paragraph. (Sidenote - my commentary ahead not an attack on you in any way.) The fans that expected a Cignetti-like result here also likely smoke crack prior to forming opinions in life. To expect someone to come in and accomplish what Cignetti has in two years borders on expecting Jesus Christ level miracles. I have some reservations about Cignetti (mostly just astonishment at this point) because I want to see what he does when his team plays more than 4 road games, plays more than two tough games a year and are no longer sneaking up on unsuspecting teams. I want to see if he sustains this level for years to come. For every Cignetti, there are 20 Hugh Freezes, Billy Napiers, and Sherrone Moores.
I've been a Mario fan this whole time. I recognized that our team was in a bad place when he took over. I was not/ am not a slurper. I simply thought/think he's the right guy to get us back to relevance. I heard the "But Sonny Dykes did it right away!" or "Look at what Deion is doing in Boulder!" Expecting someone to come in and pull off elite results from the rip just isn't realistic.

Carry on.

Go Canes!

Gotcha.

I’ve been advocating for years for them to have a separate system. I think it’s bull**** that half the programs in the FBS don’t really have an opportunity to compete for a championship. Theres no other sport or division where that’s the case.

Have said for a while:
•Reduce FBS to like 80-90 teams.
•Place some legitimate G5 programs like SDSU, Boise State, Fresno State, UNLV, New Mexico, North Texas, Tulane, JMU, Jax St, & App St, schools that’s shown they can at least hang w the P4 schools, into P4 conferences
•Have the remaining G5 have their own playoffs as sanctioned by the NCAA like FCS.

That makes the most sense w how the game has evolved. ****, maybe have the G5 tourney winner face off w the FCS tourney winner for a true NCAA Nat’l Champion which would b separate from the CFP National Champion.

I know this won’t happen, but it’s completely unfair for top tier programs to be bumped out of the CFP playoffs for sacrificial lambs at this point.

Interesting. I just wrote a bunch of garble along the same lines you did. I'm very curious to see how things play out with Indiana in the next couple years. I thought he would flop this year. Then I saw their schedule. I want to see if what he's built will last.

I know we still had a chance to beat LVille this year but I'm taking that L.
You simply dont win games when you turn the ball over 4 times (granted their players all-world plays on 3 of those INTs)

Yeah and you can also go the other way, too. Did we really deserve to win the Cal game? They kinda all even out. But I did think about putting the losing margins in there as well for added context, so here you go:

In the 4 losses, Miami has lost by 5, 4, 3, and in overtime.

We haven't lost a game by more than a TD since November 4, 2023, at NC State (20-6).

Did a Quick Look of the listed starts I counted 14 of the 22 as transfers, and a majority of the remaining to be JR or SR (not Cignetti recruits). Again, it was a quick look so it maybe off a bit. Also, they have taken 54 transfers in his two seasons. It has worked thus far, we will have to wait on the sustainability of it.

To your other point, he has had the same co-ordinators with him for the past 9 seasons and brought them along to each of his stops. Eventually he will need to replace them, but that is definitely an area where he out performed Mario in the short term.

And those 4 losses were to teams we should have easily beat. Mario’s- great recruiter, but a caveman of a head coach. You’ve seen his ceiling.

Nah, no offense taken, I appreciate responses, good and or bad. Confirmations or reaffirming my beliefs don't help me as much as spotting blind spots for me.

Don't disagree with any of your take, and respect your reservations about Cignetti, but dude in year two just beat OSU, the reigning national champ, and has a team that's top ten or top 15 in both offense and defense. Home games, road games, cupcakes or not....He's won bro.

So if we win next Saturday, you agree to shut the **** up forever? Or does his ceiling keeps getting raised the more we win and your gash keeps bleeding? If we win a natty, will you say his ceiling is only one and no way a caveman can win back to back?

Always gotta be one douchebag. I salute you digging those heels in, ma'am.
