20-4 last two seasons context

Well first of all, the Committee doesn’t watch the games. They watch highlight packages that ESPN creates for them (which you obviously know, but I constantly repeat this because more people need to know!).

But are you saying you think the G5 inclusion the way it now is fine, and shouldn’t change? I’m not sure I understand if you are for or against the current system…
Sorry I’ve had a lot of “caffeine” this morning

The system clearly doesn’t work

What I meant was that on the off chance a G5 team steamrolls its competition there’s supposed to be this committee in place that can dig into the analytics to see if they could punch above their weight class

So making it mandatory is ridiculous

How often do we see G5 teams look so good that we think they can compete with the blue bloods? Maybe once or twice in my life

So now that this blew up in their face they’re gonna overreact in another way and make a terrible rule change…just not sure what it is yet

Gotcha.

I’ve been advocating for years for them to have a separate system. I think it’s bull**** that half the programs in the FBS don’t really have an opportunity to compete for a championship. Theres no other sport or division where that’s the case.

As Pete was saying, establish RELEVANCE! As good of a recruiter as Mario is, he had to work harder to recruit against the last two decades that Miami football was. He now has the blueprint that he orchestrated at Miami. Now, the kids coming up at MNW and STA know that during their whole high school careers, that Miami is favored 11/12 times a year. Go Canes

I just wanted to contextualize the last 2 seasons and how impressive this program has been. Obviously this isn't all apples to apples because of the schedules, and we know the ACC isn't great, but I don't care where or who you play, winning 10 games in the present day college football is a very, very good season. And doing it back to back years is exceptional.

I wanted to look at the last 2 regular seasons and see who was definitively better than Miami. Remember, we're now 20-4 in the last 2 regular seasons. This doesn't account for conference championship games, bowl games, playoffs, etc...just Miami compared to everyone else over the past 24 regular season games (2 years).

Here are the list of teams who have a better record than Miami in the regular season since the beginning of 2024:

Oregon 23-1
Indiana 23-1
Ohio State 22-2
Georgia 21-3
Notre Dame 21-3
BYU 21-3

End of list.

SIX teams have a better record than us the last 2 years. In the entire country. There are kids ON THIS ROSTER who got absolutely boat-raced, at home, by Middle Tennessee State. And it wasn't a fluke. They beat the **** out of us. We lost 45-3 on our home field to FSU. We gave up 45 points, at home, to Duke. We got beat at Clemson 40-10, and the game wasn't even remotely that close....we ended the game with 98 (!!!) total yards of offense, we had as many penalties (6) as we did first downs. At halftime, we had eight (8) yards of offense. In a half of football. Eight. Yards.

That was some dark, dark ****. So, before we embark on going to Weirdoville and smacking the overrated Aggies around, I just wanted to stop and smell one hint of one rose for a minute. The last 2 years, for the vast majority of them, have been fun as ****. We had some bumps, for sure, but only 6 teams in the whole **** world had less than we did.

Last laugh -- We have won more games by 20+ points in the past 2 years (13) than either FSU or UiF have won, TOTAL. FSU has 7 wins the last 2 years. UiF has 11.

Let's go get another one next Saturday with the whole world watching.

Go Canes.
Definitive progress...

So much more to go though...

Kirby Smart plays the same brand of football as Mario. In some respects can be even more conservative. See GT game this year. I wonder if Georgia fans call him caveman?
They will once they realize his brand of football only beats overrated SEC teams. They are all still living under the illusion of SEC superiority. Can't blame them, really. That SEC bubble is pretty tight.

The committee was created so that a deserving G5 team that steamrolls its schedule could be included by people that supposedly watch the games

So when you make it mandatory and you got a couple teams that didn’t even go undefeated then it just looks terrible

Looking forward to whatever overreaction rule changes they make that won’t apply next year

A 4 team G5 playoff as a feeder into the CFP would be kinda cool. Not sure they could make it work with the season calendar (and still give the team a week off before the first CFP game)… but I think it would be good for all involved to do it that way. Create some more meaningful games and keep the possibility of a Cinderella story alive.

luckily we are in the world of what have you done for me today, not yesterday, kids have super short attention spans. I would say we are relevant plenty now. back to back 10 win seasons, what would be the negative pitch? well 4 years ago miami finished 5-7 and look we havent won less than 8 games in 10 years! idk seems weak to me.

It's unlikely, but I would love to absolutely dominate A&M on both LOS and win by at least 2 TDs...

Just dominate the game.

We'd go from underdogs to maybe CFP title favorites.

We already have the best game in the 1st round. And the game with OSU will probably be the best game of the quarterfinals too.
This game is giving me Florida 2024 vibes. I’m watching Aggie breakdowns and it’s all about the stadium and making sure Reed doesn't throw away the game. I think we are going to do what we have done all year and educate a whole bunch of people on what bully ball really looks like.

A&M is a finesse team. Speed pass rushers and explosive wideouts. Their Lbs and Safeties look mid. Their o line doesn't run block well and their pass blocking stats are likely aided by their mobile QB.

They also are running their fat mouths trying to convince themselves they aren’t afraid of us and maybe trying to get in our heads a bit.

Any team can get got but I have a feeling we are about to kick the ******* door open to this playoff on the 20th. Lace ya boots up!

It just doesn’t look good when you’ve got Tulane and James Madison in over teams like Texas and Notre Dame and the point spreads are 14-21 points

Teams are too evenly matched these days with NIL and the portal instead of the years where maybe 4 teams had a legit chance. In that era it would have still been dumb but likely wouldn’t have mattered like this.

We were dangerously close to being left out so I don’t want to gloat too much about Notre Dame

Realizing I’m totally derailing this thread with another playoff thread

Let's see

117-20 record (85% win pct)
2 national championships
4 conference championships
Finished 7th or better in every final AP poll since 2017

Hard to complain with that type of success

Honestly, I think the 2022 season had to happen for us to get where we are. The worst thing that could have happened to us as a program would have been if Mario and Josh Gattis managed to squeeze out an 8 win season that first year. We needed to get embarrassed to show that all the motivational “tough guy” speeches in the world aren’t enough to overcome ****** coaching. Everything that year was an abysmal failure and they needed to go back to the drawing board and not try to turn us into the Kentucky of the ACC.

It’s cool. I completely get you and I agree.

The one last thing I will add is that to your point about parity/NIL/portal - in my opinion, all this adds to the fact that the G5 should have its own playoff system. Since they are somewhat becoming a minor league system to the P4, then splitting them off is logical.

But it does seem we are due for major changes within the next couple years.

Mario’s now a perfect coach by any stretch of the imagination. Gameday gaffs, sometimes archaic offensive gameplans, etc.

But if people want to say he hasn’t been successful here, they are hating because they just plain don’t like Mario. He’s fixed every perceived issue or weakness every year. Just think how many coaches we’ve had finish a year with 9 wins. And they don’t change much. If anything. Mario won 10 games last year and rather than resting on his laurels he completely flipped the defensive staff and back end. Obviously there’s moving on from Gattis immediately, going more spread, etc.

I’m aware it’ll probably take a perfect set of circumstances for him to win a title here. And that’s ok. If it was easy to win them you’d have more than two active coaches with championships. But this team is much closer to winning championships than the **** we went through for 20 years by a wide margin.

I approve of this message!!! Everyone wants it all, all at once, but in todays CFB landscape that is **** near impossible (Indiana is the exception and that is possibly the greatest sports turn around in the history of sports and that is no understatement).

This team/program is setup perfectly for the next 3-5 years, so let's just enjoy the ride and hope the teams on that list of being "better than us" continues to get smaller and smaller.

The thing about those four losses is they were by an average of what 7 points or less? Very winnable games but still a very impressive 2 year run that is only going to get better.
exactly. Those 4 losses, could've/should've been only 2 losses when you really think about it

Yup, one or two bounces go Miami's way and thats a 12-0 team. Could happen any given year too.

What I meant was at first it was easy to negative recruit 5-7, 7-5. Even with one 10-2 season it could be argued as a flash in the pan. A 2027 signee will have the chance to see three 10 win seasons if we hit that mark during the 2026 football season.
