I will always feel terrible for the kids of the Golden era.
Uknowwhat, Great post and absolute truth in what you say. Fans are not bigger than the program and are powerless to change anything. A smart man or woman would move on instead of inflicting this kind of pain on their selves from a game kids play. There is so much more to life and knowing you read this site, i am sure you have seen how our fans live this like it is life or death. I wonder do they hold their self, family, friends, jobs to the same accountability they do this coaching staff and the kids playing?

In order to watch Canes football in its present state, I'd have to be dead drunk like I was for games back in the '60's and '70's when I was a student. That was the only way I could stand it. However, I am now too old to get wasted at football games watching a chitty team with chitty coaches and no hope of any substantial improvement....so count me out. And don't dare call me a bandwagon fan as I have followed this program for 50 years. I just can't allow myself to get that intoxicated and that ****ed off anymore.
That's your right. That's up to you. But don't you dare call someone who is still devoted to the team and attends games a bad fan because they don't agree that burning it all down is the way to proceed. To each their own.
I never called ANYONE a bad fan. It's your privilege to go to the games and try to enjoy them. I'm just saying I can't do it anymore with the team in its present state. It infuriates me and I don't like watching teams that I know are badly coached and can't perform to the best of their abilities. I saw enough of these performances when I was a student . If the situation changes in the near future, then I'll consider attending a few games.

I was talking more generally, about those on here that claim that you are not a fan if you attend games (which is laughably ridiculous). Those who say they want to see the program burned to the ground. They should just up and leave, and find another team. They aren't fans.

Clearly you are the one who thinks they have the right to declare who is and who isn't a fan. Exactly when and how did you obtain that privilege? Was it awarded on a games attended basis, dollars donated basis, money spent basis, degrees from Miami basis, or is it time on internet basis? Just wondering. Some of us who are most upset happen to be long time big spending alums who suffered long before Howard and again now since Donna. At some point, time, emotion and money invested give one a sense of ownership that goes beyond just attending games, if you do.
If you want to go to games that is fine. Enjoy, cheer loud, and support team as you deem fit. But do not dare to presume you have right to judge others who have done that and so much more when they express a preference to avoid at all cost this continuous embarrassment and betrayal of the glorious history we helped build. If all we are going to be allowed is our memories by a BOT and administration determined to destroy them, then we have the right to desire those smucks be denied the $$$$ those memories bestowed on them.
Remember, it was the choice between shutting the football program down or trying one more coach that gave us Howard. Maybe that is that choice the BOT needs to face again to climb off their thrones and admit they need us little serfs that love Cane football.

By definition, someone wanting the program to fail is not a fan. Cheering against the team. Cheering for losses. Saying recruits shouldn't come here. None of that in any way relates to being a fan. Anyone at that point should just admit they are no longer fans, and choose another team. Those actions are what you do to teams that you are NOT a fan of.
After all, who can easily find a different team to watch lose too. May I suggest Temple.

You throw a lot of extra crap out to help your definition each time. I never root against my Canes, or recruits, or for losses. Maybe some see that as way to fix things, but for me those are the things that need fixing. Money is my issue and that is because it is all that drives the enemy--BOT and administration. Ticket sales give Donna and her kind cash I do not want them to have. Some time scorched earth is the only way to victory. There might be people who think getting rid of Al fixes the problem and see losses as fastest way to do that. Al is nothing more than a tumor caused by the cancer of the BOT and Donna's disease ridden decaying corpus.
I am an alum and a fan. As an alum, I am entitled to push to end football or anything else I want. I believe fans who have a lifetime of support, time and money invested also have ownership type rights. If we, as long time fans, would rather end what we helped build than watch if be tortured, who are you to say we do not have that right? After all, who can easily find a different team to watch lose too. May I suggest Temple.

This. I don't see a problem with someone rooting for losses. If our AD and BOT actually cared maybe we wouldn't have to stoop to those levels. But we ended last season losing four in a row going 6-7 and golden still wasn't fired. So excuse me if I'm not rooting for wins in hopes that golden is fired. For this program to move forward golden has to be removed. An 8 or 9 win season would be the worst thing to happen to this program.By definition, someone wanting the program to fail is not a fan. Yet it happens all the time. Most recently I saw a sports center piece where two NHL teams were playing and both sets of fans were rooting for a loss so they could get the #1 draft pick in next year's NHL draft (supposed to be an 18 year old phenom coming out.
Its important to note that UM fans did not just start doing this overnight. They have been beaten down for a decade straight. ITs been bad hire after bad hire. Its been bad decision after bad decision. Yet some (so called) "fans" still think that blind optimism is the right move. Im glad Im not one of them.

Losing one game to get a draft pick is quite different from wanting to lose throughout the season, and lose our future in the sense of top recruits. Even rooting for losing one game is pretty questionable. Just admit it, you're an ex-fan. You used to cheer for the 'Canes, now you don't. But why bother pretending to still be a fan, just find a new team. Supporting your team has exactly zero to do with blind optimism. I want Golden gone if he doesn't have a complete turnaround this year, and if he were fired tomorrow, I wouldn't shed a tear. But I'll never cheer for my team to lose, period.

So if you ever get cancer you'll tell the doctor that taking chemo with all it's side effects means you are an ex-fan of your own body and to really show your body support you will just hope that your body figures it out on its own? To use the same analogy for recruits. If the cancer was from the kidney and had metastasized everywhere would you think it fair to take a kidney transplant after they take out the one with cancer? That just ****s over the new kidney when it dies (along with the rest of you) a few months later.
