10th coaching assistant

Richt’s “OC” is a running backs coach with no coordinator experience otherwise and his QB coach is his son who has zero coordinator ezperience. How is that any different than Jimbo having Coley as his TE/OC coach and craig as his QB coach? And when FSU won a title, he had Randy Sanders as his QB coach, who had years of SEC QB and OC experience.

You just wanted to try to **** on Richt with some stupid hot take that didn’t make any sense. Par for the course.

So the answer to your question Jimbo had an experienced offensive guy in his corner when they won the championship and not his son?
.

That’s not the “answer to my question” at all.

You answered your own question dude read what you wrote.

Not really. For Jimbo’s first three years there he did the same exact thing as Richt. Then he got Jameis Winston. They didn’t win because of Randy sanders, but that’s beside the point. You claimed Richt couldn’t coordinate the offense in his own like Jimbo...when that’s exactly what he’s been doing. Think before you hot take.

What's the hot take? It seems to reflect the sentiment of a large portion of the board.

Some seem to agree Richt is not the coordinator that Jimbo is. Richt needs help with his offense, unlike Jimbo. One of the positions filled that could be used as an experienced X and O's guy, is his 28 year old son. I'm not going out on any limb here.

With Jon Richt on staff, I think it would be next to impossible to bring Dorsey home. It’s a shame because every QB he’s worked with in the NFL loved him. Does anyone break game film down better? Extremely strong work ethic and hates losing. I think he would be a strong recruiter, but I guess that’s not certain.

He’s a natural to come home.
Hence the reason I don't and never have wanted that **** boy on staff. Unfirable and brings nothing to the table.

Nothing to the table? I wouldn’t call landing Perry and Williams in successive classes “nothing.”
You're assuming that anyone else in that position couldn't have done that OR better AND brought something to the table schematically/instructionally. Perry was committed to golden for Christ sakes.

Kaaya had by far his best year in 2016 and Rosier just set the UM record for TDs by a QB. What exactly does jon richt not bring to the table “instructionally?”

It’s hilarious watching people who defended Al Golden for years **** on Jon Richt. Some of you guys are just programmed to have bad opinions.
Because Sr. Has said (numerous times) he's the QB coach. Jr. Holds his ******* water. Follow along please.

No need to be so angry. You have no idea what Jon Richt brings to the table or doesn’t bring to the table “instructionally.” You’re just running your mouth, trying the contrarian approach after you made your bed with Al Golden.

Big time Golden Girl.

If Jon Richt’s only functions are to recruit well (check) and teach the QBs exactly the way Mark Richt wants them to be taught when he doesn’t have enough time to personally handle them in practices and games, then he is well worth a coaching spot. Mark Richt isn’t bringing in somebody to “shake things up.” He’s going to run his system and have the QBs coached exactly how he wants them coached. He said as much when he took the job. The two assistans who help with game planning are his former players who played in his system. Follow along, Big Sky Cane.

I'm a golden girl lol? The narrative that won't die. Never said one positive thing about him post 2013, lost all hope post Louisville and NEVER white knighted for him (like you're doing here) EVER. Why you keep bringing him up?

If you don't think Sr. Needs some real help on the offensive side of the ball you can't be helped. Keep your head burried firmly up your *** please.

Bunch of yall are idiots.
this hire definitely needed to be on the defensive side in some manner.

whether it be a straight up lb coach, or a ST coach who is a good defensive recruiter, or whatever.

But this definitely needs to be on the defensive side of the ball. I'm hoping Barrow comes into play, but whatever. If Patke is a good recruiter, this will be fine, otherwise this isn't too good.

Richt isnt bringing in “help” on the offensive side of the ball. It’s not happening any time soon. You may as well call for Richt to be fired because he isn’t bringing in outside guys to run a different system or coach QBs in their own way. He pretty clearly wants guys who know and can implement his system.

From what I was told, “this is Patke’s job to lose”

Just pathetic, why not go and get a proven guy or get surtain who knows the game of football and to help you get an elite cb?..... Patke worked a lot with the linebackers this year and they regressed, nearly every game they were missing a bunch of assignments

I’d rather us hire an experienced coach to do LBs and help out with STs (which would be right up Barrow’s alley) but I agree it should be a defensive hire.

I get that and I'm not calling for his firing. I understand the logic, I just don't agree with it. Richt has done a great job changing culture and getting the most out of this team. Doesn't mean his offensive liabilities are beyond reproach. I feel the offensive staff is beyond over matched, don't you agree (beyond the reality he isn't firing his son)? IMO he'll be forced to eventually anyway. What must be done eventually, must be done immediately.

1. Maybe Surtiain would only want to be a DB coach. We're obviously not going with 3 db coaches. Only way that would work is Banda to LB coach or something.

2. Why would you think Surtain is some elite recruiter? Sure hed bring his son with him, but then what. This is a really short sighted option you want.

I'm with ya on wanting more of a proven guy, but Surtain isn't a proven recruiter.

No, I don’t agree. We scored more points in 2016 than in any season since 2002. Only 4 UM teams since 2002 scored more points than the 2017 team, and two of those teams were only like two points better. He did that with Rosier at QB, virtually no RB depth, and a hobbled #1 WR. He did his best to mask the offensive deficiencies this year, but that fell apart late in the season. Most of my criticisms with Richt’s offense stem from his situational playcalling. I think he goes for it all on second down too often and that puts us in bad third down spots. I also think his 3rd and short and red zone playcalling could use some work, but I’m not that concerned about the offensive system as a whole.

Fair points but imo the reason his situational playcalling sucked is because his system needs revamping. His running scheme specifically is a hot mess. His zone blocking, big on big s hit needs to end. We are a spread team. Need to implement more spread power running ala Clemson/Auburn. Give ourselves the advantage in the running game which will open up easier throws in the passing game.

The rubber meets the road on offense NEXT year. There will be zero excuses for being dog s hit in the red zone and third down in year three. If there are, then it can be assumed its a schematic/coaching issue. The offense will be stacked with playmakers and he'll have his third qb to try it with.

While I agree that he isn't firing his son, I'll never be convinced he's not a wasted coaching spot. Sr. Has admitted on tape numerous times he's the qb coach/OC. Jr. Is redundant and unfireable.

You can post all the stats you want, we were underwhelming there when it counted and you know it. I like the engaged Richt as an offensive coordinator but imo he needs to be more involved in the total program. He can still be MORE involved on the offensive side but turn the day to day over to an innovative OC. Imo it will happen by necessity in the future.

The Richt hire was the direction the school went so, let the man do work. It is his show. If he thinks he has what it takes to renovate the offense with his guys, then so be it. But we better see pretty drastic results showing improvement this next season regardless of who the QB will be.
