#0 Thornton is shades of…..

Yeah Ivey making an NFL roster for 4 years and even starting a game says talent wasn’t an issue. He had some awful moments in coverage as a Cane though, glad it all worked out for him.

My recollection on Bell was that the majority of the push back came when it was proposed that he was a 1st rounder.

The kid being a 3rd rounder was very impressive though and a testament to the staff’s ability to develop OL.

Eh he’s playing like a liability at times. He’s definitely better than Harris but his coverage ability leaves a lot to be desired and his tackling is not anywhere near what I expected It to be. I’m somewhat okay with his blitzing
He hasn’t been good so far but calling him Jaden Harris is an overreaction which is par the course on this site, Harris looked like he was literally doing his best to handout 7 points to the opposing offense out there

Tackling has always been an issue from his BC days. He had a miss tackle rate of close to 25% I believe while at BC. One of the worst, if not the worst in the conference. It's who he is, it's not getting better.

He was trending to be a first rounder if he came back. The NCAA’s delay in implementing the 5-for-5 rule hurt us here.

He has his usefulness, especially as the nickel blitzer that Heatherman constantly runs. Just as our CBs get healthier (and with Day healthy now) and Dunnigan gets more experience, he shouldn't be on the field 100% of snaps like he has been every game so far. Especially coverage downs. Last year especially mid-end of season Fitzgerald was always coming in on pass downs when we subbed a LB off. This year imo Dunnigan and Day (or a 3rd CB instead of Day) should be coming in on pass downs and Thornton+LB off.

Soon enough we will have 6 players that we are confident in rolling out at nickel (Fitzgerald, Poyser, Thornton, Dunnigan, probably Day, and Lucas too if needed as he did actually get more reps at Nickel than a lot of people think when we went 3 true CBs on field). So a lot of flexibility. And Fitzgerald getting forced to CB and Dunnigan forced on field heavily so much is going to pay a lot of divdends for us by end of the season.

NCAA went out of their way to ***** all those players and create the court headache and uproar it caused. Can't tell me that "conspiracy" aint just straight up the truth. Zero logic for them to have not annoucned the 5for5 within a week or two of the Regular season ending.

Okay maybe the Jaden Harris comp was a little too much but I did say SHADES so not an exact 1 of 1 comparison. Regardless he does need to cover better, tackle better and play better in space. Point still remains

Off topic..
Hey brudda, got a video for you to show that gator chick with her passive aggressiveness on your podcast. This is Kirk‘s son Zak Herbstreit, he’s got his own podcast. He talks about the Miami takeover at the stadium, and actually shows you in his video all the fans. Nice angles of the game too..
@DMoney loved that you called her out..

For reference Omar had 7 tackles, 6 solo, 1 assisted, 1 sack vs Clemson

Not exactly sure where the outrage is coming from here. Wesco is straight nasty and that move was dirty.
Call a spade a spade. He is great when he's allowed to play downhill. MOST of clemsons offense developed underneath. He becomes an issue when he's expected to tackle in space. There's a reason we blitz him and jj so often. Difference seems to be JJ simply needs experience. Not many concerns with him honestly long term. Thorton in same circumstances I wouldn't feel so confident in.

I’m not sure why Thornton gets all the heat , we’re an atrocious tackling team. JJ has alot too but he’s a Fr. Not surprising. We average double digit missed tackles every game. That’s one of our biggest issues I’ve been griping about. We luckily haven’t played anyone with can make us pay for them.
Poyser who i like misses alot of tackles
