I think this something not many people noticed this year that was massively important. With our long drives, you simply can't have drops. All the receivers basically catch everything....this is huge.

We need depth brother. Our style of ball and practice methods, injuries pile up.

Toney, Marion, Daniels, JoJo, Moore, Johnson, Upshaw all played major minutes and started at least 1 game this season (double check me on Moore but Upshaw started NCST I believe). We are losing 3 of those guys. Absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in 1-2 guys to replace those 3 instead of forcing those FR in there. They are freshmen at the end of the day, everyone isn’t Toney. You need 8+ on the roster at all times and 6 of them need to be trusted to be able to play for you. Competition is what this program needs to continue to build and expect to create. Nobody outside of Toney has a spot and should be given anything.

I’m with you when it comes to defensive guys as it’s a battering ram mentality that we love to play with and you need depth.

We have proven we stay with a 3 man maybe 4 rotation. It’s been Mali, Marion, Daniel’s (Moore when he was out) and Upshaw/ Jefferson in super rare spots

If you bring another dude whose gonna want a guaranteed spot you risk losing Moore or Upshaw that’s almost a guarantee.

Don’t get too hung up on the portal… you’ll start acting like the Washington redskins of old always the Free agent big spenders with nothing but mercenaries

I’m with your last point, and I think this year should easily be our smallest portal haul under MC, by far. I just don’t think 2 WRs are deal breakers, and if one of Upshaw/Moore feelings get hurt and they don’t wanna compete and leave, then so be it ✌🏾. We’ll be fine with or without them. There is only one guy in that group that we can’t replace.

We absolutely need 2 WRs (1 more with Jacobs) without question, and the unfortunate thing is we have no elder guys returning. The entire WR depth chart is the current freshman plus the incoming freshman. Sure Toney is a monster and above his age, but we need real leadership in that room. Trader is the oldest guy if he returns, who had serious enough practice/decision making issues to actually get benched for games.

So it's not like we should be adding unproven young guys. We need the opposite. At the same time I'm sure the staff is expecting/hoping Moore and Upshaw to also step up, and if Trader returns and learns how to catch and practice hard, all 3 of those guys would be expected to be heavy rotation. And I'd bet at least one incoming freshman gets involved about the same amount Upshaw+Moore did this year. Which is a decent amount but not crazy.

So you got Moore and a Portal Guy replacing Daniels, With Wingo and Parris battling as the 3rd guy there. Then you got Trader+Upshaw and Jacobs replacing Marion basically. And Upshaw will be Toneys primary backup with Spafford as the 3rd guy there.

I didn’t really like the gameplan of us not going for a clearly higher level more proven guy, but if we weren’t looking to make a big $ addition, I like this one. Definitely can filll the Marion role and has good stats when targeted intermediate and deep

We really didn't need to at this position. Despite odd play calling, we are technically a run first and often offense. Outside of amazing catches, our WR group outside of Toney were relatively quiet this year because we played condensed games. Looks like we will follow this gameplan next year as well with maybe 5-8 percent more passing if we get a strong arm in the portal.

We would be wasting money on a legit #1 receiver, even tho it would excite the fan base on Saturdays.

Toney is the #1 wr dont know how many times it has to be said that the slot is the $1 wr target in dawsons offense. you can have a 6'8 245pd wr and it wouldnt matter unless hes a slot guy.

I was using #1 WR in name only. Coleman is a #1 receiver, we don't need one. We need more role players for lack of better terms. WR's to take the top off so the underneath stuff opens up.

And we need them cheap....ish

Nah I would definitely try to get an outside beast to tell opponents you have to pay attention to this guy to not just Mali. That sfla wr thats coming PAUSE in a few years looks just as good as Jeremiah. Someone we cant miss on imo

Except Strong chose Cal, so Its doubtful he even was like some super crazy expense even. And he was coming from Rutgers.

Toney is our #1 Wr. But there is zero reason we couldn't have added a more solidified outside WR. And it absolutely would have helped this offense, especially take away the signficant defensive focus on Toney. Marion and Daniels had 138 targets. Last year our top 3 Wrs outside Restrepo had 212 targets and then Arroyo had 47, which I doubt next year we have a TE with >30 targets. Basically that's all to say our WR 2/3 are getting consistently around 70ish targets. Well Strong for Rutgers this year had 82 targets. And last year he had 77. So this is right in line with how we would use him too...

The targets are available. Just because they didn't porduce that many yards or whatever isn't that relevant when you can just say that's more due to the style of QB Beck is.... I have signficant doubts Leavitt is going to be used the same way we used Beck. We are about to have a lot more "backyard ball" type plays which generally result in much higher ADOT and ypc

I’m over trader
Thought he was going to come in and lead that room thisnyear
He’s been a major disappointment today the least

We've missed the vertical element all year. Beck took a bunch of shots in the Fiesta Bowl that didn't connect. Jacobs thrives in that role.

Everybody says he has a great work ethic. Academic All-SEC, too. We have a great culture in the WR room this year and we can't afford to lose that.

South Carolina hated to lose this guy and I understand why. The arrow is pointing up.
