This is embarrassing for Donaldson. A LB blitzes and completely knocks him off balance and into Gaynor, which frees up both blitzers and it’s a sack. Donaldson is 6-5, 330+ and he gets ragdolled by a 6-1, 225 lb. LB. Brevin comes wide open on the out route if he had time.

This is the interception from Perry that was called back. Another stunt that we don’t pass off. Jakai is engaged already and Scaife doesn’t see it in time so the defender loops around him and flushes Perry. Three guys block one. A 3-man rush gets home and Donaldson never does hit anyone. He is so obviously out of gas on this play he’s taking a break.

Next play Perry puts way too much air underneath a post route and the DB plays it was better than Pope does. It needed to be driven in there low and outside and give Pope a chance to make a play. (Not pictured)

Perry runs a play fake and someone goes the wrong way and it leads to a huge sack on Perry. Sigh. (Not pictured)

3rd & 8 and they spy Hooker and run a bandit blitz with Pinckney (essentially he blitzes if no one threatens his coverage area). Incomplete and punt time. (Not pictured)

I’ll give Patke credit on this return as his guys were smart with their technique. You can’t do blindside blocks anymore, so they throw their arms up and run in front of the defender. It also prevents the urge to block in the back as well. 15 & 3 are both doing it on this return.

Scaife in at RG and him and Gaynor do not communicate on an A-gap blitz and it’s a straight rush to the QB for a sack. He got the LB’s to step up as well and had #3 behind them if the pocket holds.

I’m just completely over watching OL issues. This is a wide-9 edge rush and DeeJay runs up instead of chipping for Zion here. Donaldson literally never touches a soul on this play. A sack/hold on Zion, but DeeJay could’ve chipped and helped him out. He’s a true freshman playing LT, you can’t expect him to make this kind of block right now.

Ford knocks a pass down or VT has a big gain on a square-in where Carter slipped down.

2nd & 8 and Garvin takes the cheese on the zone-read and lets the QB outside of him. It brings up a 3rd & short and that opened the playbook for VT. (Not pictured)

3rd down and they run a switch concept in which the TE comes underneath the WR. Bolden gets confused and runs into the WR on a terrible angle and the TE is streaking uncovered down the sideline. Bolden tackles him at the 3-yard line.

What did we learn?

  • We learned that this coaching staff has a long way to go. To come out of a bye week with that much time to prepare and to not be ready for a running QB on 3rd downs was inexcusable. To not be prepared for Bud Foster to play man-to-man aggressive coverage and blitz your QB in the A-gaps is indefensible.
  • The OL is averse to contact as any OL I can remember. There were plays all over this film where the OL just refused to hit somebody. Navaughn Donaldson will want to burn this tape with how soft he played. A guy that big with his talents should not be playing the way he is.
  • I sometimes have fans reach out to me and ask my opinion on topics and Barry has been a pretty consistent topic of questions. This game started to tip me towards a lot of this is on him. The communication errors and inability to slide coverages effectively is at least partially on Barry. Too many times I see three blocking one and no one blocking another. An OL is like a flowing quintet and ours are on different sheets.
  • The offense can move the ball when defenses get spread out and have to cover the entire field. Perry threatens areas of the field that Jarren cannot with his shoulder injury and getting in the shotgun helps your OL. If Enos puts them back under center against Virginia I will be about ready to call for him to go as well.
  • This team plays hard for Manny. That says a lot about him, but the inability to get this team ready for the start of games is not a good sign for this coaching staff. You probably aren’t getting rid of Manny after one season, but the other guys are all coaching for their futures in my view.
  • The LB's may have regressed from their Junior seasons. They really were not a factor in this game and left me wanting more the entire time I watched this game. Zero impact plays from that group right now.
God bless you for sitting through that and breaking it down. Hopefully the coaches are doing the same and are being held accountable. If you see it they better see it.

so on the ivins cast, he said he spoke with a former staffer who recruited zion and they said that when they were recruiting him, it was with the intention that he wouldnt see the field for 3 years. obviously, part of zion starting is due to the last staff and OL coach and their failures in recrutiing, but holy **** man. not one dude can supplant this guy

Thats what gets me. How can there be no one better than this kid? What the **** was the Richt staff doing for the past 3 years?

yup. zion is literally the second worst OL in college football right now and no one on the team is better. i think its partially due to this staff playing for the future and not the present in their stubbornness to not move guys over (with the exception of scaife)

If they were planning for the future with the oline then the staff should have came out and said that hey we are going to that our lumps this year and be ready for the next. But Diaz spent the whole offseason gassing us up. Also we should have been calling plays to try and hide our oline problem but we don't. This whole thing is shaping up to be a disaster.

I’m dismayed at garvins play this year. He’s been even worse than the linebackers and that’s saying something...
It’s very puzzling. They either don't want to play for the coach or the systems we put in. Maybe both.

Lance keep doing you!!! That poster is a clown.

Butch Barry has been an awful hire. I don't need to see anymore. Our O-Line is super dysfunctional. He needs to be gone after this season. Our guys come off the ball slow, look confused always, and never play with anticipation. I've seen enough

Completely agree, except for one thing - we shouldn't wait until next season. We've all seen enough. I'd rather they just replace him now, we can't afford to have the same O line play the rest of the year.

part of the job is to promote your program to sell to fans. thats what diaz did. he created an image (thats also been torn down with the five games played this year). every coach is going to give you rah rah in the offseasons so fans buy tickets. if he came out and said, were going to suck this year, but dont worry maybe itll work out in 3 years, everyone would flip their **** bc no fanbase has patience (this situation si a bit diff bc weve looked horrible and things have to change asap). the play calling is all Enos and i agree. hes a stubborn individual it seems. them starting zion at LT and attempting to go with campbell at RT before making the change was them saying were building for the future

The side discussion about Lance's format has taken us away from the core issue at hand....This is a very bad football team.

I continue to wonder how UM got to a point where an undersized 2 star O line recruit ends up starting at left tackle as a freshman. What in the living ****, man?!?!?

2015 and 2016 recruiting classes.

I looked it up.

Golden really screwed us and Richt didn’t do enough to get out ahead of it.

2015 would be redshirt seniors. 2016 would be redshirt juniors and seniors l. The classes signed were TERRIBLE.

We are TEN scholarships under and Richt and Golden couldn’t sign ANYONE that could develop into an AVERAGE line over FOUR OR FIVE YEARS?

Our line is worse than many low level G5 teams and even that is generous. You would be HARD PRESSED to find five worse units in G5, we are without a doubt the worst in P5.

How the fvck does that happen to a team that consistently recruits in the top 30? It almost feels like intentional sabotage for Richt and Golden to recruit so poorly.

We should’ve have taken four or five of the best we could sign EVERY SEASON regardless if they were “MIAMI” caliber. Their bullshyt approach to recruiting has us not even Fuhrman or Appalachian State caliber.

You CANNOT just throw your hands in the air because you couldn’t sign your top targets and bring in classes of 1-3 linemen. It will KILL YOU down the road.

We hired two guys that didn’t really want to be here AND IT SHOWED. There is no excuse for not flipping Zion Nelson caliber recruits just to see if they develop. If you have to process them out fine, but at least you are not sitting on scholarships fielding the most embarrassing offensive line in the country.

It is bush league, amateurish, and shows just how incompetent our coaching has been.

I know Richt was on short notice in 2016, but there are G5 linemen all over the country who would have killed to be on a Miami Hurricane level team.

They would be juniors and seniors now and if they were worse than what we have, process them out. We would have at least had a shot to develop some upperclassmen.

Still, no one could have imagined the third year guys would be so bad. We are as far from average as Clemson is from the Super Bowl Cowboys with Larry Allen and Leon Searcy.

So the coaches need a consultation with @Dude avout how you build depth from the bottom up?

Donaldson is just another BUST and all that. Crap, how in the he!! was he given a HS 4-Star rating! And dig this, he's been playing like CRAP all season!

And speaking of OL calls. Aren't the C or G's the ones make those calls?

He's a case study in how being ridiculously out of shape derails everything else about one's game.

So much for Miami's training table. Because MOST of the offensive linemen CARRY too much body weight. In other words, a lot of the linemen have that BEER GUT. Similar to my old school fool beer gut.:ttdg2m10mxvzxan.jpg: hUh

So much for Richt being a LOYAL Miami Hurricane man. Because it's more apparent every game, that he and Searls left Diaz with some extremely POOR offensive offensive lineman!

Man, I knew Miami had a lot of QUESTIONABLE returning lineman. But never in my wildest eccentric imagination did I expect to witness Miami's OL terrible play, game to game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And what were Diaz/Berry thinking. Offering a Grad-transfer OL from BUTLER of all places. Dude has contributed NOTHING and is a wasted scholarship. Did they even think about the JUCO route and what not!

Yeah. I've already insinuated that Richt isn't the " Miami guy " y'all claim. And yes, my CONSPIRACY mentality says that Richt and Diaz have sabotage the program in a lesser, lesser, lesser degree. Nevertheless, at least Richt passed on the remaining contract payout. And I salute him for getting the indoor practice building built with his generous one million grand donation.

Oh. And one more warped notion. I infer that Richt not only retired because of pressure, but I seriously BELIEVE he knew Miami would SUCK this year. So Richt said NO MAS!
