Update on transfer QBs

I'd rather roll with Martell than Hurts. Hurts was the incumbent and he couldn't beat out true freshman Tua. Also, the kid may be a great leader but he can't throw the football and he won't have the best offensive line in college football in front of him. He reminds me of a Bob Griese, good player but is surrounded by great talent that makes him look much better than he really is. I'll take my chances with Cade, Perry, and especially Williams. Adding Martell would create a lot of excitement and competition. Don't believe Hurts is coming and not concerned at all. Remember, all three of our present QB's had lousy coaching the past few years and that will change shortly. GO CANES
You can say the same thing about Martell as hurts. Was #3 on the depth chart going into Fall camp behind Joe Burrows until he transferred to LSU. We all saw Joe Burrows who is just ok nothing special. What does that say about Martell?

Like you, I'm one of the few that believe we have talented QBs on our team and they just need better coaching and maturity on and off the the field. We have seen what N'kosi can do both good and bad. No one can deny the elite throws he has made in several games, but lacked consistency and maturity. I remember the pinpoint lasers he threw on the seem routes hitting the receiver in stride and the absolute NFL dime he threw on the goal line to Langham where he had a window of less than a foot. If I'm a coach, I'm excited about his potential.

I'm very interested in seeing how our current QBs progress in the new offense. I've said it many times in other posts, you can't judge a young QBs future based on 1 year. All of them need to mature on and off the field. I believe they will. We haven't seen Jarren and N'kosi has tools to work with, but lacks maturity. I don't know if Cade will wind up transferring or will stay and compete.

At minimum Martell will compete with either N'kosi or Jerren for the starting QB position. Unlike many on CIS, I'm not sold on Martell. Hasn't played much in college so people are really just making a judgement based on his high school performance.

I really believe Martell will make his decision on what Hurts does. If Hurts transfers to Miami, Hurts will likely be the starter because he is so familiar with the offense, but the other guys will compete and not make it easy for him. That would mean Martell would be on equal footing with N'kosi and Jarren going into 2020. If Hurts goes elsewhere, either N'kosi or Jarren will likely be the starter in 2019 and I don't see either one relinquishing the starting job unless they play poorly in 2019. Transferring to Miami would be a big risk for Martell. He would sit a year, then possibly wind up transferring again.

I look forward to the competition and may the best man win!!!

ESPN reporting Martell coming to Miami. And WR Thomas coming back.

3 springs, 2 falls, 2 or 3 summers

5*18=90
3 *8=24

If he has any HS credits or online classes, he very well could be at the 121 by summer.

Also you can graduate with a general studies degree which I believe is only 90 credits

What "indicators"? What "all" of them?

OU has been in the playoffs multiple times. We haven't. OU has multiple Heisman QBs in the last two years. We haven't. OU was recruiting him hard while we wanted him. Oklahoma has a similar culture to Texas. I mean, you did know all of this, right?

He has two years. He red shirt in 2017 and then was the back up this year
Only if his waiver is denied. If he stays at OSU until May, he’ll graduate with just being in college 2 years (freshman year, redshirt freshman year). That leaves him 3 years to play 3. The issue is, if the NCAA will allow him to be immediately eligible next year if he transfers and enrolls right now to
Miami. Because although he will graduate in the spring, he still falls under the undergraduate transfer rule, because technically he’s still a sophomore. They are trying to get it worked out ASAP so that he can come in right now and compete immediately. Which is definitely important because all it takes is for him to have to sit out, Kosi or Jarren locking up the job after a good season next year, and then he’s having to sit behind Kosi for 2 years or Jarren for 2 years. If he gets this waiver, he can enroll and have a fair shot at starting this upcoming season. It’s really in the NCAA’s hands though.

Boy have college educations been devalued, if that 90 credit degree is true.
They've been devalued anyway.

What used to be solid, rigorous academic content when I went to school has become ideogically-driven, pseudo-academic crap like gender studies, etc. Even the traditionally legitimate academic subjet matter in many universities is riven and corrupted by ideology, bias and the personal predilections of radical faculty who are largely protected by "academic freedom."

I would give an example of one South Florida loudmouth who couldn't get into even mid-level California state universities and after a year of agitating, was accepted to Harvard. I won't say anything further because I don't want an "off-topic" or "personal attack" warning.

Suffice it to say, in many respects, and at many (not all) places, higher education has been dumbed down.

Standards seem to have really declined. It probably started with grade inflation back in the '60's.

EDIT: Please note I am not implying anything about Tate Martell or OSU in general. Tate went to a Catholic HS and my impression is that Catholic parochial schools are often dedicated to maintaining academic standards and more traditional subject matter.
