TRob & Bob Shoop are the two biggest hires of the offseason.

He will basically be the De Facto DC, he & Manny will handle the weekly game planning & he will serve as Manny’s extra pair of eyes up in the booth.

He can’t/doesn’t want to be an on field assistant this season because Michigan still owes him money on his contract & if he were to get hired as an on field assistant he would lose out on the rest his money as it would offset the language in his contract.

But I think Shoop could be a legit candidate to be full time DC for next year depending on how things go this season.

Regardless of next year, this year bringing in Shoop as an analyst is a big time addition, he’s a really good DC & was one of the few DC’s that held Bama to under 30 points when they played Miss St in 2018 & in that season Miss St had the #1 ranked scoring Defense & #3 overall total Defense as I already stated in the other Shoop thread from a few days ago.

He runs a 4-3/4-2-5 Hybrid style Defense & his speciality is Run Defense, so safe to say we won’t be seeing anymore UNC rushing performances this year.
You answered a lot of questions for me.

Surprised he didn’t find a DC job after leaving Miss St? Was that just a timing thing or just didn’t have a desirable spot to go?

i was thinking the same thing. although being Safeties coach at Michigan probably pays the same as a DC at a smaller program would and less stress, just a thought

Interesting. I was under the impression that pass defense was his specialty. I like this better anyway considering how bad we were at rush defense this past season. Good stuff.

Would Schoops be allowed to communicate with Manny during the game?

UNC gashing and running over us - was such a fixture - going through us like crap through a goose - for years. And years.

And years.

This is a big move. I think he becomes our defensive coordinator next year when someone leaves. Whether it be patke trob DVD
I do agree that Shoop will get the DC spot next year. I think that it was extremely important to Diaz to right the ship on defense himself since he considers the defense "his baby". At the same time Diaz has gone out of his way to part with his pals and assemble the best defensive staff we have seen here in 20 years.

In my opinion Diaz sees the regression of the defense as something that only he can fix but not something that he necessarily wants to do every year going forward. In short, Bob Shoop is auditioning for the DC spot in 2022.

Regarding TRob, I hardly think he agreed to come here(back home) to go 1 and done. I believe TRob sees this as an opportunity to learn as much as he can from veteran DCs like Diaz and Shoop while working towards a possible promotion to DC. Smart plan if you ask me.

I think I heard on here plenty of times that he wouldn’t hire somebody that was smarter than him

He only wanted yes men, remember?

He didn’t want any alphas. He’d never hire those.

I’d love to pull up those posts.

People just fall in love their juvenile superficial opinions.

Do TRob, Shoop, TWill, Simpson, or even Stroud seem like yes men to you? Lashlee on offense?

He'll never get rid of his bestest friend ever, Blake Baker.

All of these were well accepted tropes literally just a few dozen days ago.

They’ve all been blown up in the last two weeks.

How many hundreds/thousands of porsts assuring us that all the things that have happened or Manny has done in the last couple of weeks would never happen?

@Liberty City El How do his and Manny's schemes compare?

They will always post negativity regardless of what happens.

they stated Manny couldn't get anyone worth anything here bc he garners no respect. well he put together a pretty good staff on both sides now. maybe lets just use facts and not message board theories from random posters. Manny has made mistakes and did flop in year 1. he did flop on D in year 2, but he took every attempt to correct any mistakes. here, he showed out the entire D staff and brought in an upgraded staff from a recruiting and development aspect. well see if it results in wins, but so far he isnt stubborn and has gotten some good coaches to come here
